The funeral for Estelle Getty was held yesterday, Thursday, in Los Angeles, which was attended by friends, family and former colleagues.

Noticeably absent, neither of the three remaining Golden Girls attended.

Both Betty White and Bea Arthur live in L.A., while Rue McClanahan is based out of New York City these days.

Why the no show????

The funeral was rather quick, and I suspect it was family only.

I saw an interview w/ the 3 of them recently & they were asked about Estelle - this was before she passed. They all had nice things to say & wished her well. Betty said the last time she went to visit her she didn't know who she was. They may not have been BFFs but they are/were friendly. They probably just didn't want to upstage the funeral - I am sure the 2 in LA gave their respects.

Perez, did you ever stop to consider that the other surviving "Golden Girls" were possible too broken up to go to the funeral? I realize you're very young and probably can't relate to the elderly, but this is a pretty common thing. I remember several funerals of family friends and relatives that my elderly grandparents decided to skip because it simply made them too sad to go and pay their respects in person. Instead they decided to send flowers or cards and grieve in private.

Perez: Why do you automatically assume that the three women "snubbed" the funeral? Did you actually speak to any of them or their representatives to find out exactly why they did not attend? Can you actually cite any specific source that would claim they were invited and refused to attend? No controversy needed. They obviously loved her, and am sure ware as distraught as one can be despite having really lost someone years before their physical death. They are elderly, we don't know the circumstances, maybe it was simply too painful- this article is not at all relevant or constructive because the bottom line is, unlike the insinuation- they didn't "snub" her.

I saw Estelle's son on "Inside Edition" & he was dissapointed they did not show up. Bea said it would have been too emotional for her. Rue had knee surgery, & can't fly. Betty sent flowers, signed Betty White, "Rose." Perhaps funerals make them think about their own mortality & that they'll eventually plotz too.

I have seen them all do interviews abotu Getty and her Alzheimers and they were pretty broken up and said they would go see her because they wanted to remember her as she was. I guess it's too much like looking in the mirror. Besides, have you seen Rue McClanahan lately. GOOD LORD, she looks like she died 20 years ago and was never buried……YIKES!

Theres nothing they could say that would excuse their behavor snubbing this woman that they worked with for years and because of her many many fans watched their show.

A few years ago I saw an interview with Rue and she said she had no plans to see Estelle again. She said it was too hard to see her wasting away and that she's made her peace with losing her and would like to rmember her what what she was and not what the illness made her become. Dementia is a horrible illness and it is likely Estelle didn't even't know them. She probably didnt even know her close family in the last years of her life. RIP Estelle! We love you!

I have watched the Golden Girls from beginning to reruns and no matter what they either argued about on TV or in their personnel lives they shoulfulld of had the decensey to show a full front as they in their own way were friends. It is a shame they are so lame and it shows me now not to watch their reruns and I hope they see what they have done to her and what will happens to them..they all are really unhappy in their careers

I can assume that because of her passing that everyone who knew her were too grief stricken. I hope that all will rejoice that she lived a great life. Death should never be so lugubrious. I hope that when people read this they will understand this. Bea Arthur and Betty White never hated her and neither did Rue Mc Clanahan. So I believe that a memorial service for her will be held later.

Estelle is in a better place may she live in peace. She had a sickness with no cure in site but believe me at times she knew who was around her. But this show was great I think they all aged quite a bit so it makes it hard on any them to go any where but they probably had there moments and wanted to grieve in there own thoughts. When you get older its hard on you we are all getting there. My thoughts and prayer our with the family.

Estelle wasn't the youngest of all the Golden Girls, she was 84 & Betty & Bea are both 86 & Rue is the youngest at 74 or 75. I think the maybe the reason why the ladies didn't attend the funeral was because they didn't want the whole thing to turn into a media circus like some of the other people commented & wanted the funeral to be left alone & in peace, that is the least they could do for their dear friend Estelle, even though if might have been very hard for them to do so. If they didn't attend because they didn't want to go, it was too hard for them to see her this way then that was their own business, for some people its too tough to see their loved ones & dear friends gone away & in coffins & it haunts them for life & maybe they didn't want to remember her this way.. but I am sure that they gave their best wishes & thoughts & prayers, etc. to the family & would in no way just "snub" somebody who they were so close to for so many years. I highly doubt that it what happened.

God Bless You Estelle. I recently had my best friend die at the age of 53. I did not attend her funeral because I was in such horror and depression after knowing her for only 10 years (not like these ladies) that I couldn't bear to attend. It still hurts, I don't handle death well and neither do those who are approaching it. The remaining Golden Girls are older than Estelle, perhaps they are in poor heatlh and in our family, we keep those passings away from the elderly so they will not be saddened or scared at such a late age.
Perhaps, too, her dementia caused Estelle to break ties and in that state a person could do emotional harm that cannot be forgiven by those of the same age or older. Hey people…quit analyzing this, let her Rest In Peace, remember who for who and what she was, not what her few of many co-stars did or did not…perhaps they jsut could not handle the grief like many of us cannot at a time like this.
