Bombs Away!

The new X Files movie has debuted disastrously at the U.S. box office!

The movie took in an embarrassing $4 million on Friday.

Ouchie ouch ouch.

The pic is expected to only take in about $10 million for the entire weekend.

How could this have happened????

Meanwhile, The Dark Knight continues to devour the box office.

The film took in another $23.1 on Friday and is expected to make around $73 million this weekend.

The film is on track to beat the record set by Pirates Of The Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest , which took in $300 million at the box office in 16 days.

The Dark Knight is expected to do that by day 10!

And, based on their continued strength and repeat business, it is even being mentioned that The Dark Knight could beat Titanic to become the biggest grossing film of all time.

Bananas!

Yeah, I actually saw it and it was HORRIBLE. Like, seriously, after 6 years not on the air the best movie you can come up with doesn't even have aliens? If you wanna see the X-Files movie, I'd recommend the first few seasons of the show or the first movie. Very disappointing.

so, i wasn't going to comment, but i felt compelled to after reading all the posts. i only really got into the x-files after it went off air. i was too young when it was actually on tv. i was really looking forward to the movie. i saw it last night, and i enjoyed it because i am still so in love with the series. if you never really watched it, you would've missed a lot of the winks at the fans. that being said, it wasn't great, and i'll probably enjoy it more in the comfort of my own home than on the big screen. david and gillian are both brilliant actors in their own right. i feel like the film was released too long since the series, but the film itself felt so rushed, like chris carter and co. were trying to squeeze in as much as possible without any substance. so, i'm left disappointed but appreciating what the show did offer its fans over most of its seasons. to mulder and scully.

Nobody can compete with Batman it doesn't matter what movie it is, and it may be harsh to say, but if Heath were still alive I doubt it would be doing as well as it is. Everyone wants to see it because it was his final completed work and all this talk about how playing joker made him all fucked in the head so he had to take all these pills and then he died, because he wasn't smart enough to know you shouldn't mix different meds together. He is the new James Dean. Giant Sucked ass but it was so popular because it was his last movie. I saw X-files twice already!!! I bet you haven't even seen it. It is worth watching, I went with 2 of my friends one was a fan of the show the other had never seen it. They both loved it. I want to believe there will be another.

Please actually watch this movie before commenting so critically on it! This is a good movie that just met extraordinarily bad circumstances! I predict strong rental and DVD sales…

Nerds into X files are all over 49 now and wait for videos of movies. Also X files is soooo passe, no one under 35 cares at all. Duchovny is over the hill and has a whiny voice.

X Files is so 80s/90s/whenever-it-was-made … it's not current. I have no interest in seeing it.

      114

maybe it would have helped the X-files movie, if some of the main actors died??? seriously Batman is only doing that well because of the tragic death of Heath ledger; Otherwise I don't think it would do that good!

I actually liked the xfiles movie! Finally some intelligent movie! But I guess average Americans are just not smart enough for this movie - agree Perez?

X files was awesome. For the diehard X-Philes and shippers out there.. it's just what we wanted.. not to mention if it wasn't for thelawsuit with FOX, this movie would have been out 4 years earlier!! Can't wait to see 3, cause we all know there's one coming…

      116

I never understood why people (fans) got so excited over how much a film made. I mean, WE don't get any revenues… WE don't get a free DVD at the end…. WE don't even get to visit the sets! If you can get an effin autograph, you are probably 1 in a million… You star effers are something else. YOU make the stars what they are and then talk about how stuck up they are…
      SMH…
While Batman was ok, it was not this OH MY GOD IT IS THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME! No… Plus, if Heath Ledger was NOT in Batman (or even if he had lived), I hardly think it would have been such a big deal. Be realistic…. you did not become this big Heath Ledger fan until after his death and that sucks.
Scully and Mulder are the best! I can't wait to see X-Files!

I loved the X-files movie and have seen it multiple times. We live in a day and age where people don't think for themselves and take what others say to be the truth. Go see the movie for yourself-then you will have the right to bitch about whether you thought it was good or not. But don't post crap when you haven't even seen it.

      VIVA The X-files!

    28. tinti says – reply to this

      128

      I liked the Xfiles movie.

It's a small movie, a bit like Silence of the lambs. Never expected to be a competition for a action flick like TDK. Fox always estimated TXF film to open with a domestic gross between 10 and 15 million. That's already half of the movies' budget!

If you want to see a dark, suspenseful and (suprise!) romantic movie, The Xfiles is definitely worth checking. And above all, it's (much more than the first movie) a really great trip down memory lane for people who grew up in the ninetees when this show was hotter than hot! Not even comparable to shows like Lost or Heroes that are on today!

      134

      a) fucking fox did absolutely no advertising for this movie
      b) the weekend after batman? really?
      c) if you consider that the series ended six years ago, ten million isn't really all that bad. it's not amazing, but that's still almost half of the movie's budget.
      d) maybe there's hope.

i've seen the movie three times because i thought that it was great… am i a fan of the x-files? yes. an obsessed fan? no.

i doubt that the average perez reader will be able to appreciate the layers in the movie.

okay, so titanic was this epic love story based on an actual event.
you would think that the dark knight is so popular mainly because of heath ledgers death, but go and see the dark knight. watching that movie is like… WOW. somehow, it is the best movie ever. its like, wtf

I liked it. I thought it was really good. I was a fan of the show and it reminded me of the show– well written, a good thriller, no lame special effects. Maybe people just don't love the X-Files anymore, but it is a very good flick.

      Re: sigh

I completely agree with all this– on the other hand, they saved a LOT on advertising. They knew that big fans of the show would pretty much do the advertising for them through websites and blogs and the rest of it. I just can't help but wonder if a bit more advertising might have helped them at the box office. It really is more of a movie people will buy… but I just wish that they could do another movie for 2012.

I think if they do that, the xfiles fans could finally be happy.
