Due to the surgery he had to have on his hand Sunday as a result of his drunk driving collision, Shia LaDouche is going to be out of commission for a while - about a month.

We're sure EVERYONE involved with Transformers 2, which he's currently filming, will be THRILLED for the delays and unnecessary costs Shia is going to cost him.

LaDouche's publicist has released this statement following his drunk driving arrest and subsequent hospitalization/surgery:

"Attorneys for Mr. LaBeouf confirm that an automobile accident involving an additional party occurred early morning in Los Angeles on July 27, 2008. Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month. No further comment will be issued at this time."

We hope he doesn't become the male Lindsay Lohan.

On second thought, we hope he does!

New reports are out today saying it was the other car that ran a red light and hit Shia (not that this excuses him for driving under the influence). The other driver was cited at the scene for running a red light and before police arrived urged Shia to flee the scene. Shia refused say he had to take responsibility. He screwed up and he knew it, but from the start he took on the responsibility and did what was right.

He has a past that is following him and he admits he has a problem. Now he screwed up and is going to get help (whether he wants it or not).

Let's try not to be entirely judgemental. We all make mistakes and poor choices its just not plastered over the internet/news/magazines.

Re: KdubKdub, I don't think that Ariel was comparing Shia's transgressions with Bundy's horrific crimes - she was making a valid metaphor between the way people (especially women) sought to make light of Bundy's crimes because of his good looks, high level of intelligence, etc.
      .
Seriously. go back and read some of the scary responses in this thread, and then really think of the implications as they apply to Shia. As fans, admirers, and supporters, none of us want to permanently dump Shia into the garbage can because of what he has done in Chicago, Burbank. Washington and now L.A.
      .
But at the same time blind adoration of a celebrity like Shia simply because of his looks or personality sends the exact wrong message at a time where he needs to be pointed towards the therapy he so clearly needs. Frankly, anyone who doesn't see that Shia is in trouble is part of the problem - their blind adoration only feeds into his denial.

And STOP HATING ON SHIA, THIS SHIT AIN'T NECESSARY!
Shia is an actor not a hollywood socialite, stop with the nonsense and leave him be.
