Russian Miners Too Terrified to Work After Bears Eat 2 Colleagues
Terrified workers at a mining compound in one of Russia's most isolated regions are refusing to go to work after a pack of giant bears attacked and ate two of their colleagues.
At least 30 of the hungry animals have been seen prowling close to the mines in northern Kamchatka in search of food, where the mangled remains of the two workers, both guards, were found last week.
The co-workers at the compound in the Olyotorsky district are trapped and frightened: the gruesome discovery has left them too scared to venture out. A team of snipers, with orders to shoot the bears, is now being dispatched to confront the invasion after government officials authorized an off-season hunt.
A spokesman for the local government in the capital, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, said that the area was so isolated that it would take until at least Saturday to get there. Attempts to reach the scene by helicopter had to be abandoned because of thick fog.
The Kamchatka brown bear is one of the world's largest, with males growing to around 10 feet and weighing up to 1,540 pounds. They can also reach speeds of up to 30 mph despite their size.
The peninsula, nine time zones east of Moscow and twice the size of Britain, is home to an estimated 16,000 bears.
“In the interests of safety they didn't come out to work — the people are scared by the invasion of bears,” a spokesman for the Kamchatka emergencies ministry said. Villagers in nearby Khailino are also afraid to leave their homes after bears were seen rummaging through garbage.

this guy is from florida and this was on GMA and FOX and every other news story. The bear was drowning and the ranger dove in and saved him.

here is the real story.
ALLIGATOR POINT - Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission biologist Adam Warwick saves a 375-pound male black bear from drowning Saturday near Alligator Point in the Gulf of Mexico.
The bear had been wandering in a nearby residential neighborhood. It was hit with a tranquilizer dart but bolted into the gulf before he was sedated. Warwick jumped in to keep the bear from drowning and dragged it to shore.
The bear has been relocaed to Osceola National Forest near Lake City.
side note, this ranger is now pretty famous and they are looking at him to do a show on animal planet
Perez, isn't this pic from another story… Pretty sure its of a man who actually rescued this bear from being stuck in something.. Cant quite remember. But I read the article last week on the yahoo home page and I know the man swam the beat to shore holind him in that position. Give him the credit!

I scrolled down further and someone else also noted the real story to go on with the picture, I was deffinatley wrong about it being stuck, But buddies right I do remember the whole tranquilizer thing now and him saving it from drowning. But yes someone gave u the wrong info, Inless mayb u were just looking for a bear pic and thought this would catch r attention so u just posted it along with a different story. Got my attention

helllllllo its a bear, what did they exspect if your in its territory and they dnt no any better but survial and to get food wtf did they think this bear was gonna do, great them and not eat them. the bear doesnt no any better. its like if ppl see $50 on they ground, there gonna pick it up and keep it, if bears see food there gonna eat it.
I got killed by a bear once in a dream. I don't remember how I got there, but I was in a wood with a big bear standing in front of me. He took a swipe with his paw and ripped off half my neck. I felt my mouth fill with blood and a black curtain dropped over my eyes. Then I awoke. I could still taste the blood. It was almost sweet.
I hope it was fast for those guys.

when i was in high school, i took creative writing and i had to write my own horror story…coincidently, it was titled "the terror of kamchatka" and it was about killer bears…i thought i made it up but i must have fallen asleep with the discovery channel on…wow, im dumb…i didnt even know kamchatka was a real place…

Perez, This pic actually comes from a man in the USA trying to save a bear that was loose in a neighborhood. The bear was tranquilized and bolted to the water. The man didn't want the bear to drown, the drugs were kickiing in, so he rescued the bear. This man is a hero.
