And the queen of nice controversy is thisclose to being back!
Yes, Rosie O'Donnell is said to have a potential new show in the works with NBC.
According to reports, Peacock honchos Ben Silverman and Jeff Zucker are said to like Rosie's idea for a new show, one that she's had for a long time.
They hope to have the show on the air by 2009 with a similar feel to The Ed Sullivan Show.
Supposedly Rosie would like to do it live and from a Broadway theater type of setting. Somewhere that she could host skits and different acts - comedy, music, etc.
Rosie has apparently been shopping the idea around since 2002, though no one's picked it up.
We're not sure if the timing is all that great.
Jay Leno's contract will be ending in May 2009 when he steps down from The Tonight Show and reports are that NBC is very keen on having him do some type of prime-time variety show.

Leno will be perfect for a classy prime time Variety Show. It's about time those were brought back. He'll ultimately feel much freer after losing the heavy yoke of being tied to a desk 365 days a year. He'll get out more and will be able to smell the roses and finally really enjoy what he's reaped. I used to LOVE Rosie, but not so much anymore, I find her big mouth now embarrasing, and wonder what I ever liked about her to begin with. There's no way Jay Leno is going to stay w/ NBC after his run is over. Didn't he just say something semi-snarky about them a week or two ago? He'll go to ABC or FOX for a late night show. As for Rosie's show, if she keeps politics out of it I think it's worth checking out. But she has the Tom Cruise syndrome…she went crazy and now no one likes her. Not sure how well her show will do.

Well, I do love Rosie but variety shows have pretty much had their day. It's Rosie I want to see, not acts she introduces.
Of course I would watch Ro….she is a great talent…it took me a while to realize it as I had some wrong impressions about her…I think she will do well at whatever she decides to do. Hopefully, NBC will back her and try to get her some good talent to work with. I think she could easily do a sit-com too. Maybe, she should model her show after Gleason…and, do some of her own skits. She has more talent than Ed Sullivan that's for sure.

She'll never get her own show. She made her choice…because her opinions are so important..she has succeeded in pissing off more than half of the viewing public. That's a big number..one the networks don't like. Not only wouldn't people watch, they'd probably boycott sponsors. I'm not for that, I don't condone it, I'm just reporting it. The bottom line is she went from entertainment's most liked performing, to one of the most disliked. She did this to herself because she doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut. If Rosie stuck to what she knows best, comedy then maybe. But she won't. Here's how things will go; Month one; Be a nice variety show, no agenda just fun. Month 2; The 1st cracks about politics begin, but all in fun. Month 3; Politics get heavier, less fun, Rosie starts getting angry. Month 4; Fun is all gone. Turns into political platform for her to spew her venom about her country. She turns into monster bitch. "Why does all this happen?" Because Rosie is a phony deep down. She wants to be political without becoming a politician because there is less money in it. She wants her cake and eat it too.
