Did you ever wonder that you whoop and holler because you have the mentality of the brain dead? Your existence adds nothing except the chance for us to gawp and point at you like the Victorians did the bedlam inmates. The rest of the world is not laughing behind your back. They are laughing in your face.

Re: mon – Actually, this is really the only way that satellite radio is possible. The government only issued licenses to these two in order to avoid monopoly but not to have a bunch of hardware floating around. The satellites in question ended up to be much more expensive to maintain than originally budgeted. Also, the product life of the satellites is relatively short.

Satellite radio didn't take off the way these companies had anticipated. This is why you now find them offering deals like "free satellite radio for a year in your brand new Suburban"…they are hoping that after having it for a year, you will subscribe.

Sorry, this was a case study in a class of mine, and over two years ago I called that they would have to merge if they had any hopes of making it as an industry. Even after the merge I give them another decade, tops, before they close up shop…

This merger will not create a monolopy. By definition, a monolopy "is when a business, usually a large corporation, is the only provider of a good or service. Monopolies are usually bad for an economy because they restrict free trade, which allows the market itself to set prices.

Since monopolies are the only provider, they can set pretty much any price they choose, regardless of demand, because they know the consumer has no choice. They can also supply inferior products. They are also bad for an economy because the manufacturer has no incentive to innovate, and provide "new and improved" products."

OK, first off, satellite radio is a pay service. If you don't like it, don't suscribe. If the quality goes down or the pricing goes up, cancel.

In your car, you can listen to traditional digital terrestial radio that is standard in EVERY car. You can plug in your iPod or iPhone and listen. You can listen to CD's. At your computer, you can stream traditional radio, you can listen to your iPod, etc.

Someone now tell me how satellite radio is a monolopy? The consumer HAS A CHOICE.

I just read about the merger but I just saw something on a celebrity site that Dr Rand Pink was going to date Robin Quivers. I thought she had a boyfriend and I thought he was seeing Cameron Diaz and is now dating Christie Brinkley. A celebrity gynecologist that has been known as A MAN CALLED HORSE must have an interesting life.Anyways I'm glad that the merger we cant live without Howared. Im excited for Robin to get some Malibu Meat instead of Eastern Seaboard Shrimp. I think Robin is a real satellite dish I hope Pink doesnt breeak her

Uh, the cable companies have merged several times over. How much cable competition do you see in your buying area?? Your an idiot. We will get better service, better programing, cheaper price as a result of this merger. Prices for washing machines went up 9% after the Westinghouse/Matag merger. Where you then?

Re: Big T – You want to know how its considered a monopoly?: Well by the definition of monopoly, a single company that controls a particular product (satellite radio is a particular product) you cant say that because we have VHS that a DVD is the same thing (it isn't) technology is vast that way however there is only now 1 satellite radio company which means that they can dictate how much they want to charge as there is no competition. If Microsoft can be sued for running a monopoly and handling of operating system sales and web browser sales, even though there are other web browsers out there, then this would be considered in the technical sense a monopoly. I think truthfully though that there are many business that are basically (not technically) a monopoly but because there is competition (that all charge around the same amount) that is actually worse. If you need examples look at almost any company and you will see price fixing (if there wasn't everything would always be on sale and the business wouldn't make profit) gas is a prime example, theaters, movie rental places, fast food, anything in technology. Yes there are small fluctuations in the price but at a whole the prices are within $$ of each other. They say shop around but most people don't and business know that. Besides there are bigger issues in our world then us needing to worry about 2 satellite radio companies merging.
