I thought the chain was gone for years. I haven't seen one (L.I.) in 5,10years? But don't worry, it is a known fact that one place closes because of lack of business and 5 others will pop up in the same place to prove them right! kind of thought the same people were behind all those types of restaurants-tuesdays, tgif, houlihans, chilis, dave and busters……
good riddance, I worked about Bennigan's years ago and I'm surprised it lasted this long.
ACTUALLY, this is a major blow to the economy. Closing 800 stores is loss of tax revenue for every town that houses these places and by my calculation, there will be at least 10,000 people out of jobs, literally, overnight. With the economy on pause, reemployment is very, very difficult. It all adds up.

it isn't a "blow" to the economy. It is called economics. There are bigger and better chains out there (that continue to grow and expand) and they have never been competative. Don't you remember them closing down? In fact I don't recall the last time I saw a Bennigan's (or even a commercial for that matter). Most people go to TGIFriday's, Chili's or something else like that. Duh

EH, their food got greasier over the years and they refused to serve liquor to my husband because he was from another country and didn't have a US id- oh well, they won't be missed.
No loss. Bennigans sucks, the food is terrible, the restaurants are dirty and gross. They havent remodeled any of the stores since i've been alive (I'm 38), and havent changed the concept either…No big loss, i've been there once in about 20 years…

You should read the news more carefully before posting, not all Bennigans are closing, just underperforming ones, all franchises will remain open. According to the updated news report it appears that the company owned ones are closing but the franchised ones are still open. I going to have to make a few calls.
Metromedia Restaurant Group filed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy on Bennigan's, Steak and Ale, and Tavern Restaurants but did not file for others they own (Bonanza and Ponderosa Steak Houses.) But they haven't posted any news of the bankruptcy on their site.
