Riddle Me Depp?

As we mentioned earlier this month, reports state that the next Batman movie will feature the Riddler as the main villain.

Jim Carrey did a good job playing the last Riddler in 1995. So, who would likely take his place?

Well, some reports claim that Johnny Depp is being offered the role.

And with the success The Dark Knight has has had at the box office, making over $440 million worldwide, the producers don't think they'll have a problem convincing Depp to take the role.

A source says the producers "are convinced that the role of the Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny's a pro. He'll be able to take direction from director Chris Nolan and still make the character his own."

They also plan on revisiting another one of Batman's enemies, the Penguin. And according to insiders, they are hoping the role goes to Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Depp and Hoffman?

Two excellent choices, we think.

Excellent choices. I can only hope the producers will consider having Batman tackle one nemisis at a time. Two films. One with the Riddler. The other featuring the Penguin.

I can't thank Chris Nolan enough for bringing the Batman story back from the ashes created by Tim Burton's rendition of the same story.

I really hope depp and hoffman are cast, both are so easy to imagine as riddler and penguin. Depp will easily beat carrey's riddler. Hoffman will undoubtedly match devito's penguin, but I honestly doubt anyone more embodies penguin than danny devito.

I would not go see Dark Knight because i think heath's death was so exploited in the marketing tv commercials But I couldn't pass up a chance to see Depp in the next one!

The Dark Knight was AMAZING. And whoever does the next villian has a TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH act to follow. Heath Ledger was sooooo good, you wanted to love him, but you had to hate him. Johnny Depp and Phillip Seymour are PROS and take acting seriously. I would LOVE to see it.

Eeek, Danny Devito's portrayal of The Penguin was mesmerizing… I wonder if it can be beat. After seeing The Dark Knight, i'm thinking PHS
could give him a run for his money. Plus, PHS isn't too shabby either, he's a great actor and funny as well. He was too funny in Along Came Polly!

I just don't think it works. Depp may be good at the quirky character thing but a) it's getting to be a bit much and b) he just doesn't suit the image of the Riddler. Same with Seymour-Hoffman. I mean, sometimes actors surprise us but as a first reaction, I'm not totally sold.

Love both actors, but no, don't like the casting.

I'd rather see actors who don't seem to fit into the role. Remember when Christian Bale was cast and Batman-philes were so upset??? Now they say it was perfect casting. When Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker, the Batman fans almost burned down the Warner Brothers lot. Now, Heath is called the best actor of his generation and getting postumous Oscars.

I love me some Johnny Deep, but I think they need to think out of the box when casting the Riddler.

Depp will already be playing Mad hatter in alice in wonderland, tim burton's next project. i feel the next batman villian might just be…. the mad hatter. research ur comics. so, i'd see depp more as mad hatter, not as riddler, but depp is being mad hatter…. but in alice, not batman.

riddler: steve buscemi. or justin theroux. or christian slater. or jonathan rheys myers (which would team myers with Bale again since their romance in Velvert Goldmine)

penguin: phillipp hoff. yes. but pengun is just not going to happen for nolan's batman 3. trust me.

catwoman? jolie would be a media choice. but as far as talents, it should go to one of the following: maggie gyllenhaal (yes… look into it…), eliza dushku, samantha morton(spelling?), or the white queen from the Narnia series.

two face should stay dead. he made his movie. and it was gold. dont kill it by resurrecting him.
