Spencer and Heidi are gonna have to wait - this is a different Speidi spinoff!
Sony is been said to be moving forward with Venom, a Spider-Man spinoff.
The character is based on the nemesis that appeared in Spider-Man 3, played by Topher Grace.
The Venom is a parasite that attaches itself to its host via a gooey and sticky substance and then gives that host some special powers.
Sony can either rehire Topher or have the option of casting a new actor. Insiders speculate that the studio does not feel confident in Grace's ability to carry a big tentpole film on his own.
Sony already commissioned a draft of the script to be made by Jacob Estes, a writer from the film Mean Creek.
However, they are considering going in a different direction from Estes's script and are already seeking writers to create a new draft.
Let's hope the new spinoff doesn't suck.

Perez, I think it's actually spelled "Spidey" when you're referring to spiderman…but i think we're all tired of spin offs, remakes, and the like. Can't someone think up something NEW and ORIGINAL? It's been so long since I've actually seen a new movie that doesn't suck.

Spider-Man 3 was Awful, Awful, Awful! Comic-book fans hated this movie they got it all wrong and to paraphrase George Clooney in "Batman & Robin", Raimi singlehandedly killed the Spider-Man franchise!
Topher Grace does not make a good Eddie Brock! Eddie Brock wuz always a big dude, like a football player type build! Venom iz not all skinny and scrawny like Spider Man!
It would be cool to see more of the battle between the character and the change promotes by the suit.
Topher sucked balls as Venom. Poor choice. You need someone a little tougher and a better actor.

ugh please rehire a new actor. Topher Grace was just annoying, and not the kind I'd like to watch again. I know that his character was supposed to be like that, but I just don't like him. And I don't think he'd be able to carry the movie either.

1. Might be cool, they didn't screw up Spiderman.
2. Didn't Topher Grace's Human Character get killed off in Spiderman 3?
3. I can see them having Venom attach itself to a new character (new actor) or two, maybe even a female.
4. Who would Venom fight? Sony only has the rights to a limited amount of Marvel Characters. Marvel keeps most of them close to production arm.
I think they shouldn't concentrate on another superhero to fight but rather the struggle within himself, the fight against his dark side and the bond it has with the suit.
If you get the right guy or girl to do it, it could be pretty damn epic.

Dear God NOOOO! Spider Man 3 was wretched! Unless they can pull a Nolan out of thier hat ala Batman then forget it!
I think this could be done well but if they are going to do it they should definitely keep Topher Grace on as Venom. Frankly he was the best part of Spiderman 3 and the only actor in the movie that actually seemed devoted to his role (it was so obvious that Tobey McGuire was only doing the film for the payoff and not because he still had passion for Spiderman). I think the success of this film would depend more on the script. Even a "bigger" actor than Topher Grace would have a bomb if the script sucks, and there is a lot of potential for that to happen considering that Venom is not a character that most people would care about from the get-go.

Topher should be Venom! He was awesome, and of course he can carry a movie. COME ON!!! He held That 70s Show together for SEVEN SEASONS. And he's not that different from Toby Maguire as far as personality (basically, tragic nerdlinger) is concerned. Give the good actors a chance and stop fucking up movies by putting shit actors in them (Lopez, stop! I can't take any more crap)!
