No Dogs Allowed

This seems like they're going just a little too far. And by "a little" we mean a whole helluva lot!
It's somewhat of a common trait for single guys here in the U.S. to walk their dog in the park in order to pick up chicks.
Well, it seems Saudi Arabia isn't too happy with that happening in their country.
In an attempt to keep the sexes apart, the extremely religious Islamic country has made a new law.
All sales of dogs and cats as pets have been banned in the capital of Riyadh. Walking your previously purchased pets in public is also banned.
We're not making this up!
Othman al-Othman, from the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, said the ban was ordered because of "the rising of phenomenon of men using cats and dogs to make passes at women and pester families." Not to mention they are apparently "violating proper behavior in public squares and malls."
The new law took effect this past Wednesday in Saudi Arabia's capital and will be strictly enforced by authorities, unlike previous bans in two other cities which were ignored.
Those that violate the law will face the consequences.
Anyone found outside with their pets violating the law will have their doggies and cats confiscated by the agents of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice. Yes, that's the official name of the religious police which has the task of enforcing the strict Islamic codes.
Al-Othman added, "If a man is caught with a pet, the pet will be immediately confiscated and the man will be forced to sign a document pledging not to repeat the act. If he does, he will be referred to authorities."
Sad.
No information has been released on whether the pet ban would extend past the capital, but let's hope not.

Did you know not even covering the head with a scarf is truly Islamic? No where in the Quran does it say that you must cover your head. That was just a cultural thing that got passed along and has made people confused on the subject. There are only rules about being moral, and everyone has a different take on morals, so all these laws are just Culturally influenced, not religious.

My boyfriend's boss is from Afghanistan. Most Muslims don't care about dogs to begin with. They are seen as filthy street dwellers and are not domesticated and spoiled the way they are in America.

Hey perez just to clarify… Saudi people in general are not big fans of raising animals as pets,, Arabs have a great appreciation for horses but dogs and cats are not common animals found in Saudi homes. I can honestly say that there are no more than 200 cats or dogs in Riyadh homes, bear in mind there over 8 million people living in Riyadh. So does this new law affect us? not really, neither will it affect the animals. Some of the laws we have are just formalities. Also, I'm a great fan of your website but please do some more research into a story before posting it. Your site affects people's ideas and opinions and I would have appreciated it if the post did not have a religious aspect to it since that is not the reason for the law.

It's because based on Islamic laws, you can't say your daily prayers if you've been in contact with a dog's saliva, blood, urine or feces. You need to wash up each time that happens; and you say prayers 5 time a day. So in a country where the majority observe daily prayers, it's cumbersome to have pets prance around on the streets. They've been living their lives like that for centuries. It has become a part of their culture. According to their beliefs, you should not mistreat animals. Anyone who does, is ignorant on a personal level. And that's universal.

Ugh. These types of laws are insulting to men and women. They are patronizing and they don't even work. Did it ever occur to these crazy people that allowing a little freedom will make the taboo act (such as sex) less attractive?? When you restrict people to the point of basic social imprisonment, they have no way to express their natural desires in a healthy way. I have heard Saudi women defend these laws because they say that men's instinct is to act crudely towards women. Maybe it is in a society where the men never see women, and when they finally do all their emotions come out at once. They have no idea how to relax around strange women because they never get to interact with them. These women are delusional thinking that these laws are designed to protect them. They are designed to keep them subordinate, keeping women in little glass cages.

No one should comment unless they have been there. I personally have been there and the guys are pigs. Guys here are slightly more respectful when it comes to women. It makes sense that they would use pets to talk to women over there. However, they do not treat animals cruelly. I love it over in the middle east. It's beautiful. I visit every summer and the rules are reasonable. If you don't like it, don't fucking go.
