"I'm going to give you the scoop and I'm going to let people quote your interview. Celebrities read everything. They are their own biggest stalkers; they know every single gossip site, and every single post as it goes up. They act like they don't-but they all do. Celebrities, by that estimation . . . do terrible research because all they ever do is read that without anything else to give them perspective. They're such bad researchers and their science is such shit that they sit in front of a computer for one hour every morning and read one control group. If it were a scientific experiment, it would be the equivalent of only researching what this pill does to pregnant women. There are people walking around all day having only informed themselves by reading blogs that begin with, "Bitch probably." If you're reading a blog that says, "Bitch probably uses a rake as a comb," you're probably on that blog. There's so much other information out there to be had. Read some fan mail; read about the people who said they were sick for half of last year and your music got them through it. We are terrible at not reading all the data, so that's how I feel. If you're going to go on that stuff and read it, then you'd better understand that all you're doing is hanging out in one wing of the psych ward. You go, "People really are crazy?" No-visit a different floor. Go hang out in the waiting room for a minute and talk to some normal people. It's just as much my responsibility to keep my head out of that, but I read it and I accept it. I also know I can walk outside and somebody will say, "I love your record and you got me through some really tough times." I love meet and greets more than ever because that's the other side of the data."

This is one reason why i've started to like him - he is extrodinarily candid with the press and has an awesome sense of humor. That and the video of him dressed as a bear messing around with people before his concert — absolutely hilarious. I think he tries to humanize celebrities which I really like, he's really appreciative of both criticism and positive feedback.
I think celebrities are fucking retarded. All of them. They act like they're doing us a huge favor by gracing us with their presence. We all end up in the same place when it's all said and done, so quit worrying about how famous you all are and do something productive!

mayer may very well be self-obsessed, but he's got a fabulously quirky sense of humor, and above all, he's extremely smart. I don't listen to his music, but I really admire the guy. He's intelligent and doesn't let this shit get to him. And again, I read his post and Perez's posts that were both deleted hours after the supposed kiss…I don't think Mayer is gay. I don't doubt there was a kiss. I still think it was his humor or his drunkenness that caused it…and no matter what Perez says, I don't think he's a bad guy at all.

What great advice! Celebrities aren't immune to the feelings of wanting to be accepted we all have. It's in our biology. That's why humans have actually survived this long…we depend on each other and are hard-wired to want to be liked. (Think survival in the cave man tribal days.)
Super smart of you, John. I hope other celebs (and all people) will focus on doing balanced research. And the truth is, it's nobody's fucking business what any of us do as long as it's legal and ethical (then again, ethical is a whole nother can o' worms.) Thanks for the sanity, John.

I was excited to see you because I saw you on TV performing with Alicia Keys. Your solo act ALONE on your guitar was amazing!! However, I see you put no effort in your concerts. But with true talents like the John Mayers and Brad Paisleys (their are so many more) that OBVIOUSLY stay true to themselves, I find it hard to think about them outside their music world. I like John but I disagree with him. If celebs read about themselves than they would at least try to fix what everyone is slamming them for. Example Mariah Carey would stop dressing like a 13 year old and Jessica Simpson would stop walking around with her mouth hanging open. Lilo would burn her leggings and Jennifer Aniston would stop purposely posing and pointing her ass at the paps cameras etc, etc, etc.
