For Christ's sake, WHY DON'T YOU LISTEN TO YOUR READERS? Stop writing about politics! STOP IT! Every time you do this politik thing and embarrass yourself I really have to wonder WHY I am visiting this site. That's not a comfortable way to start reading GOSSIP posts (yeah, GOSSIP- that's what this site should be about).

Shame? Why? How? It's not for entertainment, it's for protection/defense purposes. If another major disaster happened to our country and it turns out all the plans were on some terrorist's laptop, we'd wished otherwise.

We need it. More boarder patrols, we need it. When Korans are found on the Mex/American boarder we have a problem.
Someone else said it correctly- if/when there is another 911 Perez will say that we didn't do enough. You can't have it both ways. I am THRILLED to read the post. We can't have enough security. those of you who think our neighbors have a better place to live, let me help you pack your bags.

      .
Free speech, expression and the right to expose your own self to various kinds of media ARE PROTECTED BY THE CONSTITUTION, thank you very much. It should take, at the very least, a court order to seize a person's personal property. Sad how easily people are willing to give up the basic rights that make us Americans!

Oh fucking please. Don't be so naive, you think if a terrorist has some master plans to blow up a building, you think they would

1 - put ALL of it in just ONE laptop
2 - be so stupid as to bring it in the US through DHS and Customs knowing full well there are searches of all electronic media storage?

Sorry sister, that won't fly. This has nothing to do with terrorism or security(which is an illusion by the way, the govt can NOT keep you safe and if you think they can you are a real moron) but everything to do with CONTROL.

    62. Jaz says – reply to this

      62

Memo to idiots, the govt cannot and will not protect you from another 9-11 style attack.

There is NO security or safety in life, NONE. But leave it to the chickenshits who piss their pants whenever the word 'terror' is uttered and you act like 5 year olds, "Here daddy Bush, take all my freedoms away, just don't let me get hurt, oh boo hoo!"

The phrase, which apparently most Americans forgot, is
GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!

I am willing to risk it all to remain American. Death isn't that scary, but watching my country turn into some nightmare totalitarian state IS scary. To fight the monster, you do NOT have to become the monster.

Somewhere Osama Bin Laden is laughing his ass off. He made the US undo 200 years of progress and liberty, all in the name of 'security'.

Boy I feel SO MUCH SAFER now…do you?

"Those that would relinquish essential liberty for temporary security, deserve NEITHER" another great American once said.

Lighten up. The law for years is that you have no privacy interest when you cross the border into the United States, even if you are a citizen. That's how Customs searches your bags at the airport or your car at the border crossing. In its ruling. the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the nations most liberal, simply extended the existing rationale to laptops. Probably it also extends to cellphones. This will be appealed to the United States Supreme Court where you can expect a 5-4 ruling one way or the other. Be outraged all you want, but the only way to get this ruling changed is to have Congress forbid it, a highly unlikely event. And it isn't going to happen to every laptop and cellphone because there isn't enough manpower in Homeland Security to go through every laptop with a fine-tooth comb.

People talk about human rights, look at the enslavement of the the blacks in our prisons. You call that human rights? Look at the genocide happening in Iraq. You call that human rights? We've killed more innocent Iraqis than the Sudanese have killed their own in Darfur, and we're OCCUPYING them! We're worse than China with Tibet! But, then if another country came and was killing our children, I bet alot of you would wear the "terrorist" mantle w/ pride…
