Batman Wins Again

Another weekend of dominance for The Dark Knight.

Despite stiff competition from The Mummy 3, the new Batman movie has once again come in as the #1 movie in America.

The Dark Knight took in another $44.8M this weekend, putting its total at $395.88M domestic.

Unfortunately for Brendan Frasier, his The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor performed worse than expected this weekend.

That film only took in $42.5M domestic, good enough for second place. The movie was projected to make $50 mill or more.

But, back to Batman!

If it keeps up at this pace, The Dark Knight is EASILY expected to gross upwards of at least $480 mill and put it up at #2 on the list of highest grossing domestic releases of all time, just behind Titanic.

Re: aj – Yes, but you have to remember, the population is much, much greater now, so for Titanic to still be #1, speaks volumes. PS ~ Loved Dark Knight. PPS ~ Nice job w/ the clapping Joker, Perez! ;)

Well, Titanic came out 11 years ago and for it to still hold the #1 rank is phenomenol. Dark Knight was so good. I've seen it 4 X's now. The soundtrack is incredible. It's making bank too, Perez. Man I wish HL were alive to see how well his movie was received…

What a great Joker image….Dang, I really freakin' loved Heath as an actor and a little more…
I followed his film career and I was so freakin nervous and excited to reprise the role of the Joker….

It's so hard to watch the film and know that you won't see him again in another production of Batman or any other flick other than the one he didn't complete….

      Uh, I miss him….

      126

Worst propaganda film ever, very thinly veiled justification of the u.s. as the global superpower, both villain and saviour. The homeland security plug was pathetic. WORST MOVIE SINCE I AM LEGEND!!!

    27. Sel says – reply to this

      127

Err, why? Sure Heath Ledger gave an outstanding performance but the actual film is over-rated. I was falling asleep, it was so crap.

      135

It wasn't that good. Yes Joker was creepy but he totally reminded me of Keaton in "Beatlejuice." Movie nearly put me to sleep in the end. Some sort of moral message? Whatever. I've seen far better.

    36. Keli says – reply to this

      136

First off, the movie was AMAZING!! I don't think it is likely to beat Titanic (people were buying tickets to Titanic weeks before it opened), but even 2nd place is a huge accomplishment. And Heath Ledger's performance was perfect…seriously. I found myself wanting to skip through the scenes just to get to the scenes with Heath in them! He definitely deserves an Oscar nomination (and win) for that…

      Re: Rak

right. batman's a side character? are you joking? the whole series REVOLVES around batman. rofl. the joker is only a supporting character/role. batman's the main character. if you haven't noticed this is a sequel to batman??

See, now this is one movie that I actually am glad to say I paid $12 to see…THREE TIMES. Which brings the total up to $36, actually. Not to mention the $40+ spent on concession snacks enjoyed while watching this awesome flick. In sum it was the best $76 I ever spent watching this flick. I'm sure many others have seen it more than once, it is THAT good, so that might also be why the box office revenue is through the roof for The Dark Knight.

    44. 144

      That is effin' creepy!!!

Re: Kit – If you haven't seen it yet, then be afraid, be very afraid. Ledger owned that role as the Joker and dead or alive, he really does deserve an Oscar for his work in TDK. What makes his Joker so great is that while he is terrifying, he is…somehow…HILARIOUS at the same time. What a brilliant actor he was. Go see it–I've seen it three times and I plan on seeing it again at least twice, once with my mom(she hasn't seen it yet) and once on IMAX, as I haven't see it on IMAX. So yeah, go see it, it really is a great film and people are flocking to it because of the positive word-of-mouth. Truly deserving of the accolades it's getting.

    46. 146

Batman, I am coming for you. You have destroyed my father, the Joker.
I will cut your whole head off and eat it.
