J.K. Rowling can pass the torch over to Stephenie Meyer now.

Meyer's Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in her Twilight series sold 1.3 million copies on its first day of release, August 2nd.

For those of you bad with math, that's A LOT of books!

This past Friday night, thousands of bookstores and libraries hosted midnight parties across the country to help fuel these astounding figures.

We mentioned previously that due to the overwhelming demand for the title, the publisher went back for a second printing of 500,000 copies prior to publication, to the current in-print figure of 3.7 million copies.

The publisher has also confirmed the upcoming publication of The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide.

It will be available on December 30th.

The hardcover book will be the only official guide to the series and will provide readers with everything they need to further explore the world Meyer created in the Twilight Saga.

Said book will contain exclusive new material, character profiles, genealogical charts, maps, extensive cross-references and so much more!

We heart anything vampires!

Can't wait to see the Twilight movie later this year!

Re: LEAH. – Woo hoo, I'm glad to see someone's got their head on straight here. :D Completely true, the majority of people who end up reading the series are seduced by a fictional character and then believe that one day, they'll be able to have their fairytale lifestyle too. At least with Harry Potter, you clearly see that nothing's ever going to be like that in life.

Re: VishusVixen87 – That is dumb twilight has been along way longer than emos. You made me laugh out loud.

Re: LEAH. – I have disagree with your blanket statement that people who enjoy Twilight are hoping to be swept of their feet by some fairy tale prince and have a happy ending and likewise obsessed with Edward. I have no high expectation when it comes to men and have been in the same relationship for 8 years. I venture to say I have some pretty realistic expectations. I do think that books and movies that do that are dangerous to psyches of young girls but SM has explained the flaws of Edward and once she publishes Midnight Sun it should unearth some deep psychological issues that he has. HP is no better in someways. In my gender and children's literature class, we read a bunch of scholarly articles that ripped apart JK portrayal of women through Hermione. It is easy to tear apart any book and argue it from the angle you are looking for. I didn't agree with what they said but they could back it up. I enjoy Twilight and Harry Potter. Completely different stories and writing styles. JK is a better author she created an entire universe ad history for her characters. She also told her characters stories in 7 books. The fourth Twilight book ws really progressive and if she had gone forward to a fifth book who knows where it would have gone. I hated the first two HP books but loved PoA. I liked all the other books in the series.

      don't diss it

Re: LEAH. – Okay Bitch. You obviously need to get laid. Maybe you and Mr. Ben Barnes can help eachother out. And dont forget to "*High five*" when your done.

    7. 207

Lurvve both books, isn't that the guy who played Cedric Diggory in the fourth Harry Potter movie????

    8. 208

Many of you are assuming that those of us who don't particularly like the Twilight series have never bothered to read the books. Well, I've read them, and guess what? I didn't really like 'em. The Twilight books are like a guilty pleasure to me. I read them for entertainment, not for content. They're relatively interesting to read, but I don't gain anything from them. They don't make me think and I don't dwell on them after I've read them…they're just mindless fun. Unlike the Harry Potter series, the Twilight books aren't going to be remembered years from now for having a huge impact on the literary world. They're just the flavor of the week.

    9. 209

okay ive read tha twilight saga and i have to say breaking dawn kinda disappointed me it was a bit..boring. the first book was tha best there wasnt really a need for a whole series………

    10. 210

      Re: VishusVixen87

screw you, twilight is the best fucking book in the world

    11. 211

The guy playing edward also played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter. Badum chish!

    12. 212

I was at the midnight Masquerade at chapters!!!!! It was amazing I dressed up as Alice. I also bought the book and I am a few chapters from the end. IT IS EPIC!!!!!!

    13. 213

This movie is going to be beyond Epic. The cast is perfect!

    14. 214

It's better than Harry Potter! I love Twilight!

    15. 215

      love them!

    16. 216

I was a twilight fan before I read breaking Dawn.

And I feel it is my duty as an American citizen to share the opinion that Breaking Dawn is the biggest piece of shit that Stephanie Meyers has ever crapped out of her ass.

Im not even a Harry Potter fan. I read one paragraph from HP in my lifetime, but this is ridiculous. Stephanie Meyers cannot even be compared to JK rowling. JK rowling is an infinitely better writer than SM can ever hope to be. Atleast JKR makes sense!

    17. 217

Ok Ok people need to chill the fuck out
some people love twilight and some love harry potter
just live with it cause nobody cares what you think
so all these people fighting on whether twilight or harry potter is better, just please stop and fuckin chill.

    18. 218

Here's the thing… True, JK Rowlings had more book sales with her Potter series, but that's because she came out w/ her books AFTER the first movie - hence, Potter hysteria. When the Sorcerer's Stone (Philosopher's Stone) came out in bookstores, there wasn't the hysteria there was later on for Potter books. It will be the same w/ each subsequent book Stephenie Meyer's now pens and I guarantee there will be an "Eclipse" movie, "New Moon" movie and the final "Breaking Dawn." :)

    19. 219

PS ~ For me - and I completely respect JK Rowlings - Stephenie Meyer's books appeals to an older group, while HP is for younger readers. I think Breaking Dawn was great and disagree with the views it sucked. (Pardon the pun). JK Rowlings is a great writer but for my taste - way too wordy. Stephenie Meyer gets to the point in a quicker, more efficient, "I want more," way. For me - absolutely perfect. Can't wait for December!

    20. 220

Okay, first let me say Robert Pattinson is fucking GORGEOUS! (especially as CEDRIC DIGGORY people!). He is the only reason, probably, that the movies will do so good, because he rose to fame in Harry Potter!

But fuuck I'm so sick of people saying Meyer is the new JK Rowling - PLEASE BIITCH! Rowling is a fricken LEDGEND! HP7 sold fricken 11 million copies in the first 24 hours alone - that's a SHIIT load more than stupid Breaking Dawn sold. Hell, HP7 had more PRE-SALES than Breaking Dawn sold in TOTAL (1.6 million vs. 1.3).

I hadn't even heard of Twilight until a few months ago - I read the books because of the huge hype and was severly disappointed.

Harry Potter is soo NOT over. There is still at least two more books to be published (Beetle the Bard and the Encyclopedia), as well as three more movies to premiere, and a fucking THEME PARK AT UNIVERSAL. Twilight will NEVER, EVER be as big as Harry Potter and Stephanie Meyer will never be the next JK Rowling.

Got it? Good, end of discussion.!

      Re: breannax33

what people r missing here (including me) is IN YOUR OPINION becuz a lot of people like hp and a lto like twilight, cant we leave it at that? they r both goood writers with a lot of fans, and neither one needs haters :)

    22. 222

      Re: Renesmee

Sweetie HP is for all ages and both sexes. Twilight only appeals to teenage girls and some "wanna-be young again" twilight moms.

    23. 223

perez! thank you so much for supporting twilight! im in love with the series!! thank you!!

    24. 224

      Re: iluvOrlando

Ok, "sweetie" in ur opinion it does, what if i told u I was a guy who was hapilly married and still luved it? it doesnt just appeal to some ages

    25. 225

      What!!!!
I love the TWILIGHT saga its very very good. Breaking dawn is awesome too. Stephenie Meyer is different from J.K Rowling but both of then are a very good author. I also cant wait for the movie ( hope it be as wonderful as the book). Twilight rocks if you dont like it just shup up, nobody wants to hear it.

    26. 226

      Re: Daydreamer

Maybe u don't understand. I said Twilight APPEALS to teenage girls, meaning more girls relate to it b/c it's romance. I didn't say it was only FOR teenage girls. All books can be for everyone but Twilight is mostly for girls.

    27. 227

thanks for posting on this perez!
it's not just for 14 year old girls…
i'm 21 and i love it, my grandmother has read them, and so has my guy cousin. anddd, robert pattinson is way sexy. that should be enough for anyone to go see the movie :)

    28. 228

      Re: iluvOrlando

ok sry, it gets confusing sometimes, so many people are haters on this book, and they havent even tried it sorry again :)

    29. 229

Ya i LOVE twilight and breaking dawn was good but it was all the things you new where going to happen all coming together it made me sad..

    31. 231
