"Homes for Our Troops is a non-partisan, non-profit 501 (c)(3)organization that provides specially adapted homes for our severely injured service members. Through our growing network of monetary contributions, donations from building contractors, suppliers, corporate supporters and local volunteers, we are able to provide our assistance at no cost to the veterans that we serve."

I wish I had the $$ to donate.
That is something I would love to do…it's a really good idea!
They can always live with me - I have room.
FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heart you, Perez!…. this goes to show you that, even if you don't support the war, you can still love and support the troops! Who cares: politics, schmolitics! We all love those men and women in the armed forces! They bring us all together! Donate, donate, donate… if you can!
Hey, how about if everyone donates $10 or $15 bucks to this charity? I was disgusted to see how my brother-in-law was treated after he came back wounded from the Iraq war. Thanks Perez for caring about our Veterans!
What a noble idea. I'm glad you use your popularity to showcase such wonderful causes.
WOW! all i can say is WOW! I must be going about our fundraising all the wrong way…this thing looks like it'd be SO fun! Thanks Perez - I'll let you know if I win the Harley…LOL
It's sad they even need to do this. Los Angeles alone has I'm sure thousands of homeless with ptsd/disabled/mentally ill roming the streets and the assistance is not enough to live on. Shelters are discusting. I wouldn't wish my worst enemy there. Diasbilty/ssi doesn't pay enough either. They make these guys wait a long time for their money assuming because so many people have abused the system. So many people "act" like they care but watching first hand people will walk by them on the street snub them. Won't help because they assume they will use the $ for drug or alcohol. Alot do have dependancies due to the situation. The heath care is just as inadequate. Some of these non profits also keep what should be given out to help for themselves or just give to their friends. While needing gas vouchers (for cars if they are that lucky) or hotel vouchers for them to stay they can't get them because before it get's handed down to the ones in need they pass them along to friends or use them themselves.
A lot of these guys aren't going to be able to function properly in society when they return and may never be able to be. It's like the government says hey ya thanks for fighting for us. Now we wash our hands of you. SICK
I fully admit that this is a great cause…..but, what about the homeless, here, in the States?
I live in a very small town (about 2,500 people), and more than half of the homes are in foreclosure (due to downsizing at the main employment facilities). Who is going to build a new home for those people?
I realize that our veterans should be treated with the utmost respect…but, they volunteered for their country. They weren't drafted and/or forced. In fact, most of the volunteers only went into the Armed Forces for the education…which they will get, along with a new home, pension and insurance.
The people in my town (and surrounding small towns), went to work for the only 'gainful' employment, within 50 miles, in the hopes of putting in an honest days work, for an honest days wage…and, look where that got them.
No, I reserve the right to donate my time and money to my community.
I read this as "Homos for our Troops" at first and was confused…
Re: DIJordan – The ones that recieve homes are injured vets. My brother in law was one of the fortunate to recieve a home from Homes for our Troops. He lost one leg in Iraq and the other is severly damage from a road side bomb. He has 2 small children and will not be able to work a normal job. Homes for our Troops purchased a home and remodeled it to be handicap accessible him. It is an awesome thing and I encourage anyone that can donate to do so.
I don't mean to sound bitchy but why did this article only get 12 comments?
It's absurd.
These soldiers are our true heros. They deserve more than just a tiny spot on this website.
If it weren't for them sacrificing their own lives, their families, all these stupid celebrities wouldn't have the freedom to be so stupid and get so much attention.
Re: tmama3 –
That's great! Thank him for his service from another US Soldier… married to a Marine:-D
