Sucks For Scotty

SpaceX, a privately held rocket company founfed by PayPal founder Elon Musk, has just suffered its latest failure.

The company is blaming a design error for its rocket not reaching orbit.

The result was a loss of three government satellites and the ashes of 208 people that were to be released in space.

Among those ashes were the remains of Star Trek actor James "Scotty" Doohan and astronaut Gordon Cooper who set a space endurance record for traveling over 3 million miles in space back in 1965.

The rocket took off Saturday night and separated on its way to space, but after the engine cutoff the rocket fell into the Pacific.

It has yet to be recovered as of today.

This weekend marked the third failure for SpaceX since their initial launch back in 2006, which failed due to a fuel line leak.

The failure this time they say occurred because "there was a short time gap, 1.5 seconds, between engine shutdown and stage separation."

Scotty's dreams to rest in peace in space are now shattered!!!

As for a relaunch, SpaceX plans to try again with another rocket as early as next month.

Let's hope the fourth time is a charm.

only a very small portion of each persons remains (ashes) was to be sent. NOt the entire amount. The family still retains the majority of ashes and can try again. Basically all that is sent up is about a fingernails worth. weight of contents is a big issue when taken into space. That is why shuttle astronauts take so little private items. They are limited by space and weight.

With all respect to the dearly departed and their loving families….When you are dead you are dead…no consciousness of an afterlife, heaven or hell exists when you are dead…because you are dead. Sad for those who remain alive with love for their dear dead loved ones but still…the dead are dead. Whether one's remains are rotting in the soil or cremated so the ash can swirl in our atmosphere…they are dead. Hold onto the good memories of your dear dead ones. Maybe you can think about donating your body/organs to science where one can really make a lasting impression in someone's life.

James Doohan was an excellent actor. If he can't be in space and spending eternity in that 'Final Frontier', then what better place to spend eternity than under the sea at unexplored depths…another 'Final Frontier'. Rest in Peace, Scotty.
