Whitewashed?

beyonce.jpg

Looks like Michael Jackson just found himself a new photo retoucher!

The people at L'Oréal are denying that Beyonce's photo was purposely retouched to make her look "whiter."

Seriously.

The new print ad for L'Oréal Paris' Feria hair color was officially released this week. It featured a "paler" than normal Beyonce.

However, the cosmetics company is denying any wrongdoing.

A rep for the company says, "Beyoncé Knowles has been a spokesperson for the L'Oréal Paris brand since 2001. We highly value our relationship with Ms. Knowles. It is categorically untrue that L'Oréal Paris altered Ms. Knowles' features or skin-tone in the campaign for Feria's hair color."

As for Beyonce, her rep has yet to comment.

What do U think?

i think that on the left, she has a great tan and on the right, it was the middle of winter.

  2. 2

I think it was just the lighting and makeup.. she has looked that fair before.

Also, is she married? Was it ever confirmed?

  3. 3

    TOTALLY RETOUCHED!

  4. 4

    first!

  5. 5

She looks white and I know that aint her real hair! All black women that do the straight hair thing should sport an afro and be proud!!! It's natural!!!

  6. Midna says – reply to this

    6

fuck yeah they retouched the pic

  7. 7

i think it is just the lighting, there is no way in hell she would have let this photo out if she had a problem with it.
Some people have nothing better to do than stir up controversy

  8. 8

The altered that shit and they know it!

  9. 9

maybe its just cause in the darker picture
it was actually DARKER there -_-

  10. 10

    ahh

  11. 11

    Who's the white girl?

  12. 12

Ummmmm they definitely whitened her up. She has NEVER been that pale.

  13. 13

    1st?!?

  14. 14

Sure, choose the blackest picture of her and compare it to the ad perez…

  15. 15

she does look "Whiter" but i'm sure
that wasn't the purpose? She looks great, anyways.
    I'm sure she won't have a prob w/the photo? i wouldn't.

  16. 16

    first

  17. 17

well beyonce is already pretty light skinned for being african american

  18. 18

yeah, lighting and make-up and maybe that LIGHT hair color are to blame.

  19. 19

    it is the lighting.

  20. 20

Well, it might be the lightening. But if you exclude all possible explanations and just look at the pictures, then yea, the L'Oreal picture does look whiter.

  21. 21

I think you're wrong. I think the light can do that. She doesn't seem much whiter.

  22. 22

I think she looks better white.
i mean look at the other picture

  23. 23

I think it's Beyonce that is the White Washer…She cut up her nose and left her ethnic look on the back burner

  24. 24

she really lks whiter and very very whiter, they just can't say we used a lot of light or smething because is too white, we are not idiots f course it has been retouched

  25. 25

Her skin wasn't lightened. The photo you put on the left is clearly her "with a tan"—the darkest possible picture of her you could find.

I say L'Oreal did no wrong.

  26. 26

they definetly changed her skin tone…

she looks like an ugly version of shakira

  27. 27

that is just plain sad if they altered her skin because she has beautiful, natural skin.

  28. 28

wow she looks totally white lol

  29. 29

im pretty sure this wasnt the same day…. different timesss.

  30. 30

Black, White.. same thing to me. Does it really matter?

  31. 31

Oh, please. If Beyonce (and countless other black celebs) didn't wish they were white, she wouldn't wear blonde, long straight extensions (and blue contacts, etc.)

  32. 32

I have to agree with some people and say it's the lighting. thats what I though when I first saw it. Plus theres the make up she is wearing. I bet it's that.

  33. 33

Her actual skin color is closer to the lighter picture. She's got an ugly-fake-orange tan in the darker one.

  34. 34

    I think she's hot!

  35. 35

I don't think they did it on purpose, because I am sure that they would hear from her about it. I have seen her look that light before, and I actually think it looks better than the shiny orange picture!!!

  36. melly says – reply to this

    36

hello, hasn't anyone thought of the fact that beyonce might have gotten darker?? i mean, look at her cleavage in the pic on the left…you can see the skin between is lighter. She's either gotten a tan or is using some kind of a bronzer or something. She's always been a lighter shade of brown and with that weird color of blonde hair that she's got in the Loreal ad, it just makes her seem extra pale. And there is always lighting issues, flash, etc. I don't think they photoshopped.

  37. 37

Ok, so…Beyonce has so much pull with whomever she works with, and probably wants to have as much say so with whatever project shes working on, right??? So, how come she is letting this add come out lookn like dat??

  38. 38

Beyonce has looked much whiter than she did in her early days with the original Destiny's Child FOR YEARS now. Any version of her looking whiter does not surprise me. If anybody is specifically altering her image to make herself appear whiter–it's HER.

  39. 39

yeah shes married and they probably didnt even mean to make her whiter people are just over sensitive

  40. 40

You can see she was tanned on the left.
    She's sometimes that light.

  41. 41

Does Loreal think we are totally retarded????? Uhhhh Duhhh Totally retouched…

  42. 42

    HAHAHAH….
ONE OF THE COMMENTS SAID whos the white girl…
    LOOLLL….
    sooo totally retouched…
    wow..

  43. 43

you know we keep that white girl….christina aguilera…oops beyonce knowles

  44. 44

Florescent lighting makes a WORLD of difference.

  45. 45

can you do reverse spray tanning? lol. i bet beyonce had so much cake up to look white. i don't blame l'oreAL for this. i heard her dad made the other girls sign a contract stating that she had to be the whitest member of D.C. and if she had gotten tanned, they had to get extra dark. brat.

  46. 46

def lighting and make-up. She looks really tanned on the left.

  47. 47

old news - I've already read this article somewhere else.

  48. 48

    *
I think Beyonce is the most beautiful woman in the world.
    *
She does not need white wash, don't like it.
    *

  49. 49

SAW THIS ON TMZ YESTURDAYYYYYYYYY…….FATTY FAT :)

  50. 50

I think if you people really get mad or offended by this you're a bunch of idiots. Who f***** cares? Does it really affect your daily activities or your life? She makes enough money to wipe her tears away.

  51. 51

I bet they'll blame it on the flash from the camera

  52. 52

Did you ever think that maybe she has a tan in that photo?

  53. 53

Totally retouched! "lighting" can't wash the pigment out of your skin, it only 'brightens it'.

  54. 54

GIRL WANTS TO BE WHITE, LETS BE SERIOUS!

  55. 55

    photoshop.

  56. 56

Propably a mix of lightening and a lack of dark makeup or a tan, L'oreal would have to be retarted to attempt something like that
    who knows

  57. 57

I think it has to do with what season it was at the time of the shoot and her hair color.
Summer her skin would be darker and winter a lighter skin color.
Just people making drama where there shouldn't be.

  58. 58

Nahh, it's probably just the lighting - I mean it was darkish in the first photo and in the second she's got professional bright lighting on her.

  59. 59

Bitch is totally whitewashed! You're crazy if you think otherwise.

  60. 60

BEYONCE IS LIGHT SKIN,BUT THIS IS TO MUCH.

  61. 61

Its just the lighting! Why Beyoncé want to be white?
To me, she still like a black person (I'm sorry if that sounds racist!!). You can tell whether someone is black or white just by their features.

  62. 62

I think L'Oreal sucks. They test on animals, and now this? absolutely uncalled for.

  63. 63

SHE LOOKS THE SAME TO ME…….JUST HER HAIR LOOKS DIFFERENT

  64. Vivia says – reply to this

    64

ooookayy. sure they made her skin lighter, but they also made her eyebrows lighter too. they wanted her to fit the blonde color she's promoting. who cares?

  65. 65

    She is sooooo FAKE!!!!
    Appears sweet and nice though!!

  66. 66

Maybe they took it in winter…black people DO tan, ya know?

  67. 67

    UM….I honsetly dont know

  68. 68

1 more thing…Do They say that when a White Person has a tan or uses blush…

  69. 69

…just makeup to match the hair plus much brighter lighting than in the "dark B" pic…

  70. 70

    it's probably just the lighting

  71. 71

oy! shes def. looks retouched but it could be that bright ass lighting they use….who knows

  72. 72

Oh riight…her hair and skin just on it's own lightened up four shades all on it's own. On the SAME day she had this photo shoot?!?!? Is THAT what L'oreal would have everyone believe??? Those racist fuckers!
Oh and BTW….that is NOT a good picture of her anyway! It would certainly not make me buy their shitty product!

  73. 73

Her nose is odd in the hair photo - the photoshop undid her natural beauty; that's unfortunate.

  74. 74

I think it's more of a lighting thing. She isn't that dark to begin with.

  75. 75

I usually side with you Perez, but this time I disagree. Its all about the lighting, nothing more. I can take a picture of a dark skinned woman (even darker than Beyonce) and in Photoshop I can adjust the lighting to make the woman a few shades lighter, this Loreal shot isnt really that "white" Beyonce is light skinned to begin with and to me its just really bright lighting that makes her skin tone to appear lighter.

  76. 76

That's just terrible. She looks a lot whiter in that ad that's for sure, almost unrecognizable. The picture on the left doesn't accurately depict her real skin tone. She probably went vacationing or something. The one on the right though looks creepy has hell. I think Lo'real should really put a darker skin black girl in their ads to redeem themselves. This here is an example of how the media portrays beauty. No wonder the sales of lightening creams are up among asians and africans.

  77. 77

    ummm…u stole this from TMZ!

  78. 78

Is it just me or is her nose fucked?

  79. 79

I think it is the hair color and lighting. Certain lipsticks make your teeth whiter, so that would be my guess.

  80. 80

is it just me or does her nose not look right?

  81. 81

the pic on the left looks uber-tan. and yeah, she looks paler than normal in the one on the right, but she's probably just washed out from the light.

oh, and her hair looks awful. l'oreal shouldn't be apologizing for changing her race, but for making a terrible hair color ad!

who would want to buy that???

  82. 82

i would never be able to tell that was beyonce

  83. 83

Girl looks as white as a ghost.

We all know that the "lighter" black, is the "prettier" black (a.k.a. more marketable).

I mean, c'mon- Tyra? Alicia Keys?

  84. 84

She just looks like an ugly man - kind of neither white nor black

  85. 85

Never mind the whitewash. Why on Earth does this woman have an endorsement deal for hair products when she's famous for rocking lacefront wigs???? C'mon L'Oreal - she doesn't have ANY HAIR!!!!!! Stevie Wonder can see that crap isn't real!

  86. 86

    Of course it's lightened.

  87. 87

the one on the left she looks way darker than normal. she has lighter skin normaly. i think people are making something out of nothing.

  88. maf says – reply to this

    88

Lame……she was photographed looking EXACTLY like this is various other periodicals…………for example People Style Watch Issue……..this lamos just want to make a big stink outta nothing! LAME.

  89. Bambi says – reply to this

    89

Uh black chicsk tan and fade like white women she definitely looks tan

  90. 90

uhh speaking as a woman with the SAME skin complection… this ISNT anything unnatural…. could be the lighting, or shes just not as tanned as usual. (do people really assume she is dark all year round?) she CAN be light skinned.. believe me, it happens. =)

  91. 91

She doesn't even look like herself, her eyes look funny too. Like they were trying to appeal to tha Asian market also, like they were trying to use the ad to sell to all races. When she first got famous, her hair was blonde and she didn't look black at all, there was a huge controversy then too.

  92. 92

she lightens her hair, why not her skin?

  93. 93

puhlease the bitch IS that white… she's just wearing a ton of bronzer in the first pic. All ads are photoshopped but I doubt loreal did it to make her look "whiter"! such bs!!!!!!!!

  94. 94

I don't think it was overly photoshopped. Lighting in photography settings enhances aspects, and depending on the kind of makeup she was wearing, and being that she's a lighter toned African American woman anyways, it's very easy for her to look "whiter". Then when you play with contrasts and different effects in Photoshop, in order to make the photo look the best, then it can only enhance that farther. She certainly doesn't look "white" in that photo.

  95. 95

guys, i”ve been a retoucher on staff for 10 yrs at mags including instyle, people, newsweek, seventeen…and i can tell u that EVERY image u see in ANY major publication, whether ad or edit, has had retouching and color work done, usually a massive amount, especially for high-end advertisers like l'oreal, cover images, and well stories (big glossy features). i worked for a short amount of time a few years ago on a l'oreal campaign, and the norm was around twelve-fourteen rounds of retouching on everything.. round as in, retouching is done, shown to client, and re-retouched

  96. 96

I don't think they lightened her but they did make her facial features more "white" or "caucasian"…if you look at google images she is pretty light skinned. I think that's a really bad picture of her she looks like a tranni.

  97. Gee< says – reply to this

    97

    eeeeeeeeew she def resembles MJ.
She looks like a mess in the pik. bad hair color and def retouched. shes looked much better be4.

  98. 98

    ugh beyonce irritates me!
shes always trying to look white!

  99. Rose says – reply to this

    99

I think her features look a little photoshoped, prominently her cheek, jawline. I doubt the colours were terribly altered, bright lighting would have the same effect.

  100. 100

I think I like Blacker chicks!!! I haven't fucked a white girl sense I wuz 14!!! Mexican & Black iz where it's at!
