Unnecessary Killing

Filed under: Icky Icky Poo > Legal Matters

tomsic.jpg

It's like a horrible dream came to life for the mayor of a small Maryland town and his family.

Last week, Cheye Calvo, mayor of Berwyn Heights, and his family found themselves unknowingly tangled in a marijuana smuggling ring — their home was stormed by plain clothed Prince George's County police who proceeded to shoot the family's beloved Labradors, Payton and Chase, dead.

No evidence of illegal activity was found at the mayor's home by police.

The mayor said the warrant that police say justifies their actions did not bear his name, did not authorize no-knock entry and figures it might have been politically motivated. He said he did not see the warrant until three days after the raid.

This week, Prince George's police arrested two men for orchestrating a plot to deliver marijuana to the addresses of unsuspecting recipients — among them, Calvo's wife, Trinity Tomsic.

Police Chief Melvin C. High nor Sheriff Michael A. Jackson have apologized to the mayor, his wife or her mother, Georgia Porter, for the raid that traumatized the family and killed their black Labrador retrievers.

WTF?!

The FBI is now investigating what looks to us like a total eff up by county officers.

So sad!!

Who can we trust these days?

    i smell a huge lawsuit

  3. 3

This has been big news around here…the officers shot one of the dogs while it was running away from them…the PG county officers won't apologize because they claim they felt threatened. Such a load of bullshit…it's amazing that this happened to a prominent couple…if it had been anybody else, this would be swept under the rug. So sad…these officers should be ashamed of themselves.

  4. 4

    yes first to comment!!!!!!!!!1

  5. 5

    omg. first

  6. 6

    that's ridiculous

  7. 7

You can trust no one. It's best to live life that way.

  8. 8

That's completely bizarre. I would think they would be more stealth if it was the mayor's office. Why kill the dogs. The police need some serious training, the Chief is going to get fired, the city sued for millions, and I would move the "f" outta that town.

  9. 9

very sad, I would hope someone loses their job over this.

  10. 10

That's BS. What a bunch of idiots. What the hell was their excuse for killing his dogs!

  11. 11

some people in law enforcement are even worse than the ones they're wantin to arrest.

  12. 12

i would fucking sue them so hard….
    that's AWFUL
those police should be charged with animal cruelty, breaking and entering, and a whole SLEW of other crimes!!!!

  13. 13

This is so sad and so disturbing…. Pets are beloved and nowadays an extension of the family. As a parent, I agree this is the making of a horrible nightmare. this was obviously meant to hurt in so many ways. Can't help but to feel fear just knowing this could occur so nonchalantly…What is up with our country?

  14. 14

That is so unbelievably sad. Sad, sad, sad :(

  15. 15

THAT IS SOME FUCKED UP SHIT!

  16. 16

The cops in this area (DC Metro area) are SO fucked up it's ridiculous. And this story confirms it

  17. 17

That's sick. How sad for the family - Black labs are some of the nicest dogs around.

    18

Racist cops….bet they wouldn't have shot if they were yellow labs.

  19. 19

    Idiot redneck cops

  20. 20

    here here!

    21

I would sue till kingdom come! And then I would sue some more! Just the thought of what these people are going through and their poor pooches unbelievable.

  22. 22

That is absolutely terrible. I can't imagine the police storming into my home and killing my dogs! I would be suing them out the ass, my dogs are my children and I would be livid!

  23. 23

So sad. Three weeks ago I was in the area and saw him walking his two dogs. They were very sweet…………
What a horrible mistake by the cops.
Also Perez this is not a small Maryland town it is 5 min from University of Maryland and 10 miles from the DC line.

  24. 24

    That's horrible

  25. 25

This is big news in my end of PA that borders Maryland. Not only did they kill the dogs, they forced the wife's mother to the floor, cuffed, practically nose to nose with one of the dead dogs. The mayor's wife was not home at the beginning of this fiasco, but she's a complete basket case because of it.

This was one of a number of packages delivered to unwitting innocent persons in the area. It is thought that it was done to have the packages delivered to random addresses, so the druggies could "steal" the packages and avoid detection.

No amount of money can make up for the trauma these people had to go through, but I hope they get a gazillion dollars so they can at least try.

  26. 26

    Why the Dog's? IDIOTS!

  27. 27

you better believe that if someone murdered my dogs, there would be no limit to my rage or revenge

  28. 28

Hope the guilty parties are held responsible to bring about change so this never happens again.

  29. 29

It;s legal for cops to shoot dogs if they pose a threat. I know it's stupid, but even barking can be counted as posing a threat. They didn't eff up because they did find drugs, even if the drugs didn't belong to the mayor. It looks like the only mistake they made was thinking that the mayor and his family was involved. If they sue they can't get $ for the dogs, because dogs are considered property, not family. They may be able to cash in on punitive damages, however, and THEY SHOULD!

  30. 30

The police are a bunch of bastards!! I know there are good ones out there but most are corrupt and just cowards with a BADGE!! I hopes he sues their ass and everyone involved gets fired!! ASSHOLES!

  31. 31

total fuck up by authorities….I hope the mayor sues and wins big. This is an egregious act by law enforcement. If you dive deeper into the story, the swat team did not follow the terms of the warrant that they had been issued. I can only assume the dogs were barking and trying to protect their owner….beyond sad.

  32. 32

what is going on in this world

  33. 33

Thats sooo fucked up! We need to have police that can police our police!

  34. 34

Wow, that's so wrong!!! Those poor dogs! where was the RSPCA officer when this was happening? Usually if there is a raid there is an RSPCA officer to control/help the animals. Well it's that way here anyway. That's just so wrong and so sad…. I hope those officers get what's coming to them… karma.

  35. 35

    Fucking A! That blows.

  36. 36

    Certainly not the police.

  37. 37

I see that we still get the "first" retards, so sad. Please disappear you are most annoying. Say something or bug out !

  38. 38

U know what? Seeing your beloved dogs dying is one of those things I'd never ever whant to get thru. Those cops should be dead too for real because what they did was just cruel.
    Anyway F*ck the Police!

I live not to far away from where this happened. I completly agree with all your comments, however the unprofessionalism of these office will most likely go un-noticed like it has in the past. I hope now that they have fucked with a public figure that they all fucking get fired. Police in Maryland NEVER portray any professionalism EVER. The pigs around here are not trusted by anyone and never will be. I could be a better cop without training than these assholes are. My heart goes out to the Major and his family.

  40. 40

Thanks for the FISA bill Obama helped to pass it'll now be legal for the authorities to bust in and arrest anyone without a reason. Could you ask for a better tool of getting rid of your enemies? Wait till Obama becomes the president :-)

    41

If someone bursts into my home and shoot or harms my dog, which is like my child, there's gonna be some major blood shed other than just the dog. I would be in jail today I'm sory to say.

  42. 42

I hate pigs!! Cops think that they can go around doing whatever they want!! I hate cops!!!!

  43. 43

There are dedicated responsible police officers out there that wield their firearms and authority responsibly
sadly there is also a gun happy badge toting dreg element that need to be curtailed and held responsible individually for their actions. Simply inexcusable conduct.

  44. 44

    Re: buck
    LOL

  45. 45

High and Jackson oughta be shot, fucking asswipes…………..will they be fired, highly doubt it. Poor dogs.

  46. 46

People that harm animals in that manner should be shot on site. If that seems too cruel, please stay away from my animals — cause I will fucking kill you. It is like shooting a hairy three year old child. If they aren't shot on site, I hope they get a scorching case of gonorrhea.

  47. 47

I cannot even fathom that happening to my Bailey. He means the world to me and if something like that happened to him I would not stop until retribution was made. I'm not a card carrying member of Peta or anything extreme, but we need stricter animal cruelty laws. If the cops came in and shot 2 toddlers, there would be hell to pay over that. I hope the next house the guilty cop raids has pit bulls in it and they bite his nuts off.

  48. 48

Doesn't surprise me. PG county is messed up. So sad about the dogs. Police officers really need to be educated before entering out in the field. I'm not 100% sure, but I heard on the news there was no warrant issued.

  49. 49

Welcome to PG County. The cops normally just shoot people and ask questions latter so maybe they are getting a little bit better… Any Asshole can be a PG cop…. Most of the county is pretty rough (just a few nice areas where white folks live).

  50. 50

An article I read suggested that the officers didn't know this was the mayor. Uh, excuse me? Even if they didn't know his face well, they didn't know the name????? Sure smells like a set-up to me.

  51. 51

Someone call Pamela and PETA, and tell them to get their asses to Maryland…QUICK! If, ever, I heard about animal cruelty…this is it! If the Mayor, and his family, are completely innocent….I hope they clean out the 'municipal' house, for all it's worth!

  52. 52

a story like this…? there's usu more to it. either way, i am sad for the dogs, but i would be willing to bet that as the days go by, we will find that the fam wasn't 100% innocent: he IS the mayor after all.

  53. 53

Re: Rosalie – I fully agree with you, Rosalie. If anyone even looked at my wonderful, loveable Sam cross-eyed, let alone kill him….well, I can only imagine what I would do.

  54. 54

damn thats sad…some shady cops over there…
