It's like a horrible dream came to life for the mayor of a small Maryland town and his family.
Last week, Cheye Calvo, mayor of Berwyn Heights, and his family found themselves unknowingly tangled in a marijuana smuggling ring — their home was stormed by plain clothed Prince George's County police who proceeded to shoot the family's beloved Labradors, Payton and Chase, dead.
No evidence of illegal activity was found at the mayor's home by police.
The mayor said the warrant that police say justifies their actions did not bear his name, did not authorize no-knock entry and figures it might have been politically motivated. He said he did not see the warrant until three days after the raid.
This week, Prince George's police arrested two men for orchestrating a plot to deliver marijuana to the addresses of unsuspecting recipients — among them, Calvo's wife, Trinity Tomsic.
Police Chief Melvin C. High nor Sheriff Michael A. Jackson have apologized to the mayor, his wife or her mother, Georgia Porter, for the raid that traumatized the family and killed their black Labrador retrievers.
WTF?!
The FBI is now investigating what looks to us like a total eff up by county officers.

This has been big news around here…the officers shot one of the dogs while it was running away from them…the PG county officers won't apologize because they claim they felt threatened. Such a load of bullshit…it's amazing that this happened to a prominent couple…if it had been anybody else, this would be swept under the rug. So sad…these officers should be ashamed of themselves.

This is so sad and so disturbing…. Pets are beloved and nowadays an extension of the family. As a parent, I agree this is the making of a horrible nightmare. this was obviously meant to hurt in so many ways. Can't help but to feel fear just knowing this could occur so nonchalantly…What is up with our country?

That is absolutely terrible. I can't imagine the police storming into my home and killing my dogs! I would be suing them out the ass, my dogs are my children and I would be livid!

This is big news in my end of PA that borders Maryland. Not only did they kill the dogs, they forced the wife's mother to the floor, cuffed, practically nose to nose with one of the dead dogs. The mayor's wife was not home at the beginning of this fiasco, but she's a complete basket case because of it.

This was one of a number of packages delivered to unwitting innocent persons in the area. It is thought that it was done to have the packages delivered to random addresses, so the druggies could "steal" the packages and avoid detection.

No amount of money can make up for the trauma these people had to go through, but I hope they get a gazillion dollars so they can at least try.

It;s legal for cops to shoot dogs if they pose a threat. I know it's stupid, but even barking can be counted as posing a threat. They didn't eff up because they did find drugs, even if the drugs didn't belong to the mayor. It looks like the only mistake they made was thinking that the mayor and his family was involved. If they sue they can't get $ for the dogs, because dogs are considered property, not family. They may be able to cash in on punitive damages, however, and THEY SHOULD!
The police are a bunch of bastards!! I know there are good ones out there but most are corrupt and just cowards with a BADGE!! I hopes he sues their ass and everyone involved gets fired!! ASSHOLES!

If you dive deeper into the story, the swat team did not follow the terms of the warrant that they had been issued. I can only assume the dogs were barking and trying to protect their owner….beyond sad.

Wow, that's so wrong!!! Those poor dogs! where was the RSPCA officer when this was happening? Usually if there is a raid there is an RSPCA officer to control/help the animals. Well it's that way here anyway. That's just so wrong and so sad…. I hope those officers get what's coming to them… karma.

I cannot even fathom that happening to my Bailey. He means the world to me and if something like that happened to him I would not stop until retribution was made. Doesn't surprise me. PG county is messed up. So sad about the dogs. Police officers really need to be educated before entering out in the field. I'm not 100% sure, but I heard on the news there was no warrant issued.
Welcome to PG County. The cops normally just shoot people and ask questions latter so maybe they are getting a little bit better… Any Asshole can be a PG cop…. Most of the county is pretty rough (just a few nice areas where white folks live).

I actually know this couple. I used to work with the wife. those dogs were so good and so loved by this family. I am gutted to hear this news.

Anyone who lives in PG county knows who messed up all of our police officers are. I don't even feel safe with them around. . . The saddest part about this was when the mayor's wife gave her statment and was hardly able to get through it because she was talking about a little girl that she didn't know that lived on her street coming up to her and asking how they were supposed to trust the police if they shot their dogs. A little girl that they only knew from when they walked their dogs around the neighborhood. That's a pretty sad statement coming from a little girl. Poor doggies, rest in doggy heaven. :[

The officers that killed the dogs should be fired and charged with animal cruelty. There are certainly good cops, but there are also stupid fucking assholes that work alongside the competent ones.
I can’t imagine even going through this traumatic nightmare. I have always been law abiding but I don’t see ANY excuse for this. I hope their whole department is taken down. It’s sickening, shameful and disheartening. They devastate innocent people’s lives over a freaking box of POT and shoot their beloved pets? How the hell could a tragedy over mistaken identity happen in this day and age with all of the technology available especially to a MAYOR?????? I hope the officers involved feel guilty for the rest of their lives. If I or my Mother had to lay cuffed on the floor next to my murdered beloved pet I can’t even imagine what I would do (hell hath no fury)…..especially if it was by the same people I would typically trust to protect and save my life. It’s a sick f*****g world we live in when the people we trust abuse their authority in this way. Just cowboys with badges and guns. I sure bet the adrenalin was pumping as the offices gunned down the family pets Payton and Chase. I realize undercover officers have to protect themselves, but this wasn’t a scene from a cop movie, these were real, innocent people’s lives! Time to get a grip! I don’t usually don’t stop my workday to comment on issues especially when they happen clear across the country, however, this is one of the most upsetting stories I have ever heard and I really feel for this family as if it had happened to my own. Just frightening!

PG Cops suck. Actually, Greenbelt where I live, their SWAT team killed them. It's so heartless. My mom is pretty upset too. The guy didn't have kids, so he always use to treat them like his own. Also, the way they tied him in his underwear to the mother-in-law while the dogs blood was all over the floor is despicable. I can't believe my own County is so retarded. He's a nice guy, people really like him.

This is horrible. I read this in the newspaper yesterday along with a story that happened in my city. We had a bad storm and a woman's alarm was falsely set off, she had her cell off so the alarm company was unable to reach her; therefore, they sent the police. She had her boxer in/near the garage and had it on a 30 foot lead. The cop came in, the dog growled at him (protecting his home) and the cop shot him. The woman woke up and found her dog in a puddle of blood and the vet could not save him and had to put him down. The police dpt. refused to pay her back for the vet bills and cremating fees because they said the cop had probable cause to shoot the dog (even though it was on a lead…). Also, at a traffic stop a bulldog got out of the car (they said in the video you can see the dog hopping out wagging his tail) and the cop shot him to death. You would think that the criminals that they go after would be more dangerous than the animals???????? Sorry so long….honeslty, i'd say these cops are a bunch of p*ssies and are abusing their power.

I was just watching that story on Inside Edition and was absolutely horrified. My dog is my child and if some cop barged into my house and shot him I would freaking kill them, and all over some pot, honestly? That stuff is one of the less harmful substances around. Oh and on Inside Edition the mayor said that the younger dog ran away once he saw the other dog had been shot but that the bastard cops followed the dog and shot him in another room anyways. What a bunch of vile pigs, I hope they get their asses handed to them.
Why are two dogs getting more publicity then when police officers kill a person. Why didnt sean bell, or the lady last week that had her newborn child killed by police officers when they busted into her home were is the sympathy were is the media attention but everyone is so sad for some dang on dogs.

I used to live in the south, and unfortuneately, there is still sooo much corruption amongst the sherriff'sdepartments in the south..Not so much city police as rural/smalltown sherriff's..I was eating at a restraunt in NC, and Maysville, NC police walked out on their bill..I overheard the waitress getting very mad..A bit later, I asked thw waitress what was going to happen, and the manager had to call police, on the police..unbelievable..wetipped the waitress..
