Some industry insiders are wondering why The Dark Knight didn't come out with a video game counterpart as well?
The movie alone has brought in over $400 million. And, estimates are that video sales could have brought in an extra $100 million.
According to reports, gaming corp Electronic Arts has the rights to make a Dark Knight game, so why was nothing made?
It seems the game is in production, but the timing is way off.
Gary Oldman, who played officer James Gordon in the movie, says he's only seen a "tiny little piece" of "The Dark Knight" game.
He described a sequenced that showed Batman going from rooftop to rooftop, and said the game is supposed to fell as if it "doesn't stop and start."
Video game industry analyst Michael Pachter says, "I think publishers have concluded the only games that work are the surefire $500 million box office kind of games like Spider-Man and Shrek. The 'Transformers' game really surprised people how well it did, but the movie was big. I don't think they expected 'The Dark Knight' movie to be this big."
Yea, we're not sure it would have been this big if it wasn't for all the media attention and news surrounding the movie due to Heath Ledger's death.
Though EA was probably worried that they'd have another repeat of the previous Batman movie and game releases.
Back in 2005, EA released Batman Begins to go along with director Chris Nolan's movie.
The game even featured the voices of the main characters like Christian Bale, Katie Holmes and Morgan Freeman. However, the game only sold about 587,000 copies. Definitely not a good amount.
Though some Batman characters will be released into a few upcoming games, such as Batman, The Joker, and Two-Face in Warner's "Lego Batman: The Video Game" in September.
A few other characters will also appear in Midway's "Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe."
Let's hope EA gets on it before it's too late.

I am guessing that the video game will be released just in time for Christmas….at which time, they will recoup that 'lost' $100M, and then some. They are not stupid…they know exactly what they are doing. And, we are the fools who fall for their tricks. Yes, I am calling myself a fool, also…since, I KNOW that my son will be wanting the game for his 360, PSP and/or DSlite.

Well to me this is a blessing.
As an avid gamer I hate it when movie based games are rushed just so they can be released the same week the movie drops. Spider-man 3, Ironman, and Superman Returns come to mind. All those games were terrible.
Hopefully EA takes all the time in the world and releases a game that does justice to the film. This is EA we're talking about though even if they take thier time it could still be crap.

The problem with video games that are based on movies is that they're absolute shite. Game developers are always ALWAYS rushed into getting them out when the movie comes out, if not before the movie comes out and then everyone always complains that they're crap. Maybe the fact that they're taking their time with the game is a good thing.

Maggie was great, but I htink her death was less impactfull because we didn't "know" her from the previous film. Oh wait…did I just answer my own question? OR was it because of Aaron Eckhart? I'm waiting for Lego Batman that's for sure. The Lego game series are really cute and family friendly I give it a 10+. I hope the Batman game is good.
You have to be kidding when you said that The Dark Knight wouldn't have been big if Heath Ledger hadn't died!!! Maybe the allure of his last completed performance drew some people in (and rightfully so becuase he was FABULOUS as the Joker), but I (along withmillions of others) have been stoked for this sequel since we were teased with the Joker's card at the end of Batmin Begins. Get over yourself just because you didn't like it.

Movie-based games always suck, and EA has a reputation for being shitty. Everyone, just buy the Lego Batman game coming out this year! No videogame could really capture the greatness of TDK, anyway.
Actually, Perez, 587,000 copies counts as a pretty okay release, especially for a game that only has a famous name and isn't part of a specific game franchise, like Pokemon. Though I doubt anyone cares that you don't know anything about video games.

This was the longest and most boring Batman! Yes, all performances were great, but it truly went on and on and on… so who cares about a video game! This was a movie! Perhaps instead of worrying about a video game, they should have worried about how to cut the movie down…
An extra $100 million?! Who in the world do you think is getting all this money? It sure isn't the fans who pull lint when trying to pay for the ticket to get the theaters in the first place.
