Gold Hearted Girl

swift__opt1.jpg

Her heart is as golden as her hair!

Country star Taylor Swift has announced that she's donating $100,000 to the Cedar Rapids, Iowa branch of the Red Cross.

Two months ago, Cedar Rapids suffered millions of dollars in damages and thousands of job losses at the hands of what is called "Iowa's Katrina". Torrential rains caused the Cedar River to swell and submerge the town.

A source close to the singer said, "Taylor was going to cancel the concert, thinking few people could attend, but the mayor of Cedar Rapids asked her to carry on."

Swift says, "The people in this town have been through so much loss this year, and my heart goes out to them. They've stood by me, they gave me a sold-out show. You've got to pay it forward in life – that's all I did in Cedar Rapids."

Well done!

  9. 9

    she's so talented.

  10. 10

Now why can't Slutty Miley Cyrus be like this?
She's one of the richest kids right now
And she won't donate any of her money.
    Go Taylor!

  11. 11

she is fabulous, talented, beautiful, big hearted, and for now (and hopefully always!), a scandal free lady. :)

  16. 16

Re: MRS.RICKY MARTIN LOVER – Who cares? Maybe the thousands of people who are going to be helped my her generous donation. How cold hearted are you?

  17. 17

Re: lilyinatx – Yes, let's not encourage here to donate money to people of need. Good call! How dumb are people on your site, Perez?

  18. 18

aww that is reallyy sweet =]

  19. 19

Taylor has a good heart!!! I hope the industry doesn't change that quality in her.

mrs. joe jonas is too precious.

  22. 22

Re: MRS.RICKY MARTIN LOVER – My family almost lost everything in the flood and so did thousands of others. Thats who cares. Who cares about ricky martin?

  23. 23

Re: MT Buckets – Iowa is a great place to live if you want no crime or low poverty and no over crowding. You can get jobs too! God that really blows.

  24. 24

I actually live in Cedar Rapids—I didn't go to the concert but many of my friends did. Thanks for the publicity Perez….its an awful thing that has happened but when people like this donate and give of themselves it just makes remember that not all is lost. Thanks Taylor Swift!!

  25. 25

I live 5 miles south of Cedar Rapids, IA and this money is greatly needed. The town is completely destroyed. There are houses upon houses with giant red stickers that say "DO NOT ENTER: DANGEROUS TO HEALTH", and there is trash piled 2 stories high in this town. Taylor's VERY generous donation will do a lot of good for all of us that lost everything we had this past June. For those of you that say "who cares"…. well, all of us in Iowa do.

  26. 26

Re: ryan005 – wow, how about you not be an asshole to someone you don't know?? i'm stupid b/c i don't think she has talent? i don't care what she does w/ her money. i just don't think she should be famous for being having mediocre talent.

  27. 27

Re: lilyinatx – the point is you shouldn't talk shit about someone who is helping people. How much money have you donated to charity? Oh I forgot your album must not have come out yet.

  28. eep says – reply to this

    28

whoa go Taylor Swift! I lalalalove all of her songs especially 'oh my my (mary's song)'

p.s. I love Miley Cyrus too

  29. 29

Now THIS is why I love her. Shes a natural down to earth kinda gal who sing REAL songs, not fake ones people write for her. GO TEAM TAYLOR!!!!

PEREZ I HOPE YOUR FOR TEAM TAYLOR!!!! ARE YOU????

  30. 30

It matters to the residents of Cedar Rapids. It was not particularly a Katrina, nothing can compare to that, but it is devastating. My house was flooded, no my home was flooded. I was forced to move from place to place (a total of 4 within two months) with whatever belongings I have left. You can almost say with all of the moving, I was thankful that there wasn't much anymore. For anyone who says Iowa sucks, you're ignorant. I'm a New Yorker, born and raised, but Iowa has something special. It may be lame, but if any of you have a moment, listen to the song "Shhhh.." by Atmosphere. That will tell you what Midwesterners think of where they live.

  31. 31

Well good for her, she is doing what everyone is supposed to do, help and help!
I just hate celebrities who donate money and make a big of a deal out of it, specially this girl who is not very known… why not donating and shushh about it??? That would have been more significative! One thing is to ask for donations and be a spokersperson for the campaing and another is to release a press communicate stating how much she donated… that's tacky!

  32. 32

Seems like a very public way to garner approval by her fans and the public that Taylor Swift is a great humanitarian.

Why couldn't she have donated anonymously?

Is it because she wouldn't get the good press?

  33. 33

    Good for her!

  34. 34

    Re: lilyinatx

No, you're not stupid because you think she doesn't have talent.

You're stupid because she just gave $100,000 of her own money to help people and you write, "let's not encourage her."

  39. 39

Talented, sweet, funny, generous, and knock out gorgeous. No wonder Joe is so smitten.

  40. 40

what is there not to like about this young girl? not only is she talented but cares about others. that is pretty rare for the younger stars these days. hopefully she remains the good girl she is.

  41. 41

I love Taylor Swift!!! She's an amazing singer/song writer, and this post just makes me love her more!! You're awesome Taylor!

  42. 42

I think this is great! My friends said the concert was awesome and CR could really use the help. There still is good in the world…

  43. 43

    she is awesome!!

  44. 44

as a former cedar rapids resident, i think that is awesome! they could truly use the money right now. the damage there is unbelievable.

  45. 45

    aww i love tswift.!

  46. 46

    good for her i'm glad!

  47. 47

    She's a hypocritical bitch!!
Who cares what the incredible no talent does!

  48. 48

Re: flood victim – so it's okay to call a 15 year old a slut b/c she hasn't given anyone money? it's okay to call people sluts and whores b/c they they may or may not donate money publicly? if i had a million dollars i'd give away right now. but why are you asking me if i've donated anything. have YOU? and i'm not stupid. good for her for doing something good, but i don't think that her giving any money to a cause is any different from the millions of people who donate money and more importantly their time and talent(doctors, nurses, surgeons, volunteers etc) to disaster victims and no one is telling them they're doing a great job. don't contradict yourselves. at least be fair. she didn't do anything so great that others haven't done or are doing now.

  49. 49

1 more reason to like Her!!!!!

  50. 50

Awesome for Taylor. What a good person. I'm sure everyone in Iowa really appreciates it and totally deserves this treatment - floods suck!

Re: Kate27 – Charities are required to list who donates to them and how much, for tax purposes. So this is less Taylor announcing it and it more being public knowledge, which she was probably asked to comment on.

  51. 51

    Re: lilyinatx

You are a douchebag. You have the right to your opinion, but clearly, it's a poor one and you're just making yourself look like a massive asshat right now. It'd be in your best interests to just what away.

  52. 52

Re: lilyinatx – First of all I never called anyone a slut or insulted anyone. I helped sand bag for three days and it didn't even help and I have donated more of my time to help the clean up. I did all of this even though I am pregnant. I have had many organizers and residents thank me for my help. The only thing I said to you is that you are missing the point. She is also not the only celebrity who has publicly donated money to this cause. If you really don't care about her and just want to continue being rude to disaster victims then just SHUT THE FUCK UP. I am writing because I am glad that people care about what is happening here is Iowa. - flood victim

that is really cool i like her new song should have said no its good. It's nice to use your money to help people when you can and i think she can i think her tour is bring in butt loads of money you can only do so much with the millions. I hope hollywood follows her they need to help hurricane katrina get there homes back and the iowa people need homes built for them to. If i had it i would help but im just acommon american making a living to keep my mortgage paid hope one day a gold ship will come in. looking for the rainbow i know must of americans pocketbook is running low. He feel sorry for the homemarket for the people out there im thinkful i have a home in georgia 110 i know that want touch a yard in california i hope they builld homes for the common people to get a house.

  54. 54

I THINK WHAT SHE DID WAS GREAT but i have seen her live a few times at some festivals around Nashville and she isnt that good of a performer/singer. I think she is just the ideal contry cross over star that can make some record labels some cash.

  55. 55

She is such a sweet girl.

  56. 56

As a very proud Iowan, I am thankful not only to Miss. Swift but also to Perez for the shout out. Many towns and homes were destroyed with the flooding earlier this summer- especially in Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area. Driving through some of the towns still today, you can see the water lines on the outsides of buildings all the way up to the roof. All of the little towns around my city were wiped away… I couldn't even imagine what it would be like to go through that. My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the thousands affected by the storm. More people like Taylor are needed. Not having much money is no excuse, your time can be even more useful.

  57. 57

She's a sweetheart, how refreshing to see a celeb give to a great cause.

  58. 58

i love her! her guitar is cute too

  59. 59

I LOVE TAYLOR!!!!! She is such a good role model for young girls, and her songs ROCK!!!!! : )

  60. 60

Re: Iowa City Girl – you know, all i was saying was that i don't like her music. and then i have two people who have never met me call me disgusting names and for what? b/c i may have made a typo on some stupid gossip blog. and here's the thing, what pisses me off most is you telling me i'm disrespecting victims. i lost so many family members in a flood in mexico, and when i was 11 my house flooded too. we lived in a shitty motel for 6 weeks. my parents are STILL trying to recover 10 years later. my dad had to rebuild our house from the ground up. we lost everything. and you can chose to believe me or not, and i'm sorry to anyone i may have offended but i never said i didn't care. i wish i could rebuild anything that was lost, i truly do. but i think though, you didn't read my first comment, otherwise you would have realized i was talking about her singing. anyway, that's that. no matter what i say, i'm pretty sure that milo still thinks i'm an "asshat". you're so clever.

  61. 61

Re: whatwhat – If you respond to a message I left make sure that you know what I said. Never called you any names. Just said that you missed the point of the post. I have never heard this girl sing and I particularly can't stand country music, but this concert brought together people who had lost a lot of hope. Music brings people together and its wonderful if a cause is involved. The post was about the charity not her music. I bet if it had been the jonas bros. you would have had a different reaction. I'm done with you, peace out bidiatch!

  62. 62

Taylor Swift is a sweetheart. I wasn't in the flood plain, but I am from Iowa. Thank you Taylor and anyone else who donated to the victims. To the "who cares" commentors - if you care about alternative fuels (ethenol) you should care about Iowa. And if you need an excellent medical facility, you might care about the University of Iowa Hospitals. If you enjoy eating any corn fed animal, pork or beef, you have Iowa to thank for their food. And if you're not into meats but prefer the tofu type of menu, we raise the soybeans for that, too. Also, we manufacture a soy oil that is the healthiest oil for cooking and frying. We also have the oldest college West of the Mississippi (Iowa Weselyn College, Mt. Pleasant, IA) and Van Allen of the Van Allen Belts (think Astronomy) was also from Mt. Pleasant. The "American Gothic" painting was inspired by a house in Eldon, IA and painted by Iowan Grant Wood. "The Field of Dreams" was filmed in Dyersville, IA, and you can still visit the field as it remains in tact. "The Bridges of Madison County" was based in Iowa. Oh, and Riverside, IA is the future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise (Star Trek).

  63. 63

I LOVE YOU TAYLOR, I have a crush on YOU ha ha

  64. 64

good for her!! everyone seem to forget what happened here in the midwest!! Its as bad at New Orleans if not worse in some places, celeb's just don't care the mayor of cedar rapid never said anything about rebuilding a "vanilla" town. Or Kayne West wasn't out there saying how its the goverments fault, or Bradgelina isn't there helping the farmers who lost crops, animals, and buildings. . . . it disgust me how so many people just don't care so ROCK ON TAYLOR!! We are finally dry in WI, best wishes to those in Iowa!

  65. 65

Re: chef lady – Finally someone who knows what they are talking about! People usually don't know how important Iowa is to the nation. Most people don't know this but Elijah Wood lived in Cedar Rapids until he started making movies. Johnny Carson, Chloris Leachmen, Donna Reed, John Wayne, Nick Nolte, Gary Cooper, Ashton Kutcher, Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Reagon and Gene Wilder are all from Iowa. And those are just the actors! Not bad for a state full of "hicks".

  66. 66

Good for her. Pathetic that it takes someone this young to set an example for those self-damaging fucking idiots in Hollywood. Love her.

  67. 67

Wow — she is amazing and God bless her!! CR is my hometown and it's been quite a roller coaster with the horrendous flood that hit in June. Thank you for posting this Perez, and thank you Taylor!!
