It's nice to hear that even murders get treated well in jail!
In fact, John Lennon's crazy killer has been enjoying conjugal visits with his wife for the past 16 years.
Mark David Chapman killed Lennon back in December of 1980 and has since been serving time in the Attica Correctional Facility.
Chapman is up for parole this week for the fifth time. He's been denied four times since he became eligible back in 2000.
Since at least 1992, he's been part of the prison's "family reunion" program.
Thanks to the program, Chapman gets to spend up to 44 hours straight with his crazy ass wife in a special "private homelike setting" location.
We still can't figure out why someone would stay married to a killer.
Inside the unit, which is surrounded by a fence, there are no cameras or guards.
His wife, Gloria Hiroko Chapman, was married to Chapman when he committed the murder. She still lives in Hawaii though she visits Chapman once a year or more.
A rep for the prison facility says the goal of the program is to "preserve and strengthen family ties that have been disrupted as a result of incarceration." Adding that it is designed to "foster positive and responsible conduct" and "facilitate postrelease reintegration into the family and community, thereby reducing the likelihood of recidivism."
Yoko Ono had submitted an emotional letter in 2000 stating she feared for her safety, for the safety of Lennon's kids, and even for Chapman's safety if he was released.
She has since again sent word that her position has not changed.

That's bullshit. Chapman shouldn't be aloud visits from anyone. Yoko doesn't get to see John anymore so it isnt fair he gets "conjugal visits" with his wife. He took away someone's partner, he should have his taken away.

I've been to prison. State prison SUCKS ASS, but if I ever had to go back for another round, I'd hope it'd be federal and not state. Everything's much better — food, housing, clothes, supplies, food, name it.

So he gets conjugal visits…what's the big deal? Here in Canada, inmates can earn 48 hour visits with their families and the visits take place in a little bungalow within the gates of the institution. It's not like they let 'em out so they can go bang their wife for a couple of days. The wife is searched thoroughly before being allowed in, even more thorough than for regular visitations, to ensure she's not bringing any contraband into the duplex, and as far as i know the inmate has to pay for any groceries they will use during the stay.
Why are people so shocked when a killer's wife chooses to stand by her husband? Obviously she loved him enough to marry him. That love doesn't necessarily dissipate just because her husband killed someone. I hate Chapman's guts and I wish he were dead, he killed my idol and stole from the world a brilliant peace activist and song writer whose words are still relevant today. BUT, as an inmate, he's allowed to have the same privileges as others on the inside, whether we like it or not. I know I'm going to get trounced for my views, so let the bashing commence!
a lot of crimes are committed by people with mental disorders. it's not a blanket excuse but he needed to be locked up - YES. He obviously needed severe help in getting back to "normal". This is what our criminal justice should strive to be like - setting up programs in which helps them see/feel what having a normal life can be. So when he DOES get out, he'll be better and no harm to society like he once was.
