Listen To This: Shoot 'Em Up!

Filed under: Listen To This > Cher

niia.jpg

This is not your parents' jazz!

Say hello to Niia, a singer whose voice is as sultry as her looks.

This jazz upstart from New York has the potential to shake things up in the genre, who hasn't seen a female break through to the mainstream since Norah Jones and Diana Krall.

We've become enchanted with the following song from Niia, Bang Bang, a reinterpretation of the Cher classic.

Check it out below and then CLICK HERE to listen to some other fine tunes from Niia.

  4. 4

I thought "My baby shot me down" was Nancy Sinatra, not Cher.

  5. 5

wowowowow. looking smokin' mama. "Love Me For What I Am" and sing it like you mean it. 'Banging' track.

  6. 6

She has set herself as just an object with this photo, nice move..
    Great cover tho.

  7. 7

wow! beautiful… finally a sane alternative to wino.

  8. 8

I'm pretty sure Nancy Sinatra sang this first…. gosh Perez if it's not the spelling errors it's something else

  9. 9

It's ok but it takes forever or her to start singing

  10. 10

fuck nevermind you were right… I hate to admit that

  11. 11

    Luvs it

  12. 12

    Hot!!!!

  13. 13

Nope, its Cher not Nacy Sinatra. Sunny Boner wrote the song.

  14. 14

    Nancy Sinatra, not Cher. Never.

  15. 15

yeah, I believe Nancy Sinatra sang this first.

  16. 16

  18. 18

  19. 19

She is definitely right up there with Diana Krall. Great voice.

  20. 20

marcymarcy.com — I took this photo! Please link back to me, darling perez!!!

  21. 21

    It IS Nancy's Sinatra's hit…not Cher's! What a horrible musical faux pas!

  22. 22

Nancy Sinatra classic- Cher just covered it.

  23. 23

Re: kmiller4Isn't that your MySpace avatar too???

  24. 24

Cher was first, but Nancy was best.

  25. 25

    yummy goodness

  26. 26

I really, really love this Perez! Thanks!!!! :D

  27. 27

Not a patch on Cher's original or her 1980's remake…

  28. 28

i'm surprised Perez didn't mention this but she also was on Wyclef's "sweetest girl" track with lil wayne and akon….big things coming for Niia!!

  29. 29

yes, yes. Nancy too sang Bang, Bang. (horrible) I wanted to shoot myself during her rendition. Don't worry if it's not good enough for anyone else to hear? Like hell. I take it all back. Don't "Sing", sing a song.

  30. 30

and you should all know that niia has a cd coming out really soon and you will never heard a purer sound. she's a great, lovely person. look forward to it!!

  31. 31

beautiful! she sounds like fiona apple

  32. 32

I thought that was an old Nancy Sinatra song…

  33. 33

Young Buck's take on the song was better.

  34. 34

A very tinny, watered-down and white-walled Ella. Newcomers should avoid torch-classics like the plague. Still, better than the prepubescent twits you've been hawking here, Perez.

  35. 35

I love it! Her cover of "gimme more" is awesome!

  36. 36

    amazing voice!

  37. 37

Re: lolcat – Per Wiki…."Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" is the name of a song written by Sonny Bono. In 1966, Cher released it as the second single from the album The Sonny Side of Cher. Nancy Sinatra later covered the song in 1967, though Cher's version is—by far—the most successful rendition of the song.

  38. 38

Wow, if you look it up online, Sonny Bono wrote the song, cher sang it first and Nancy Sinatra covered it. I never knew Cher even sang this song.

  39. 39

this is a Nancy Sinatra song

  40. 40

Re: kittykittykitty – I AGREE, WAY BETTER THAN THE JONAS WHORES, MILEY, EVEN KYLIE… LETS GET BACK TO SOME MUSIC WITH SUBSTANCE… NOT JUST DANCE TRACKS FOR DRAG QUEENS AND TWEENS

  41. tinky says – reply to this
    41

i think nancy sinatra was first…

  42. 42

    stunning.

  43. 43

Re: Beezle – like others have said, cher sang it first. Nancy Sinatra covered the song later.

  44. 44

    PERREZZ ITS NANCY SINATRA

  45. 45

OMG OMG I'm in love with this song, sexy and sweet

  46. 46

I like the version. But I also like the version by Canadian singer Melanie Durant. The Durant version is up tempo. P.S. Niia doesn't have to use sex to get people to listen to her. Her talent can speak for itself.

  47. 47

This is a Cher song, written by Sonny, released in 1966, Nancy Sinatra covered it in 1967. Sinatra's version was used in the opening scene of Kill Bill. Perez was right.

  48. 48

This is Nancy Sinatra's classic, NOT Cher Perez!!!!

  49. 49

It's a Nancy Sinatra classic, idiot. You're a gay — get your divas correct, miss thang.

  50. 50

Quentin Tarantino used the old version in "Kill Bill." Can't remember if it was I or II. Great song. I like the older versions better than this one.

  51. 51

This song was originally done by Nancy Sinatra not Cher

  52. 52

Love it - thanks for another new artist to listen too. How do we get her on Itunes????

  53. 53

I like the piano playing at the beginning but I don't like this song, or her voice. I actually am a fan of the 1967 Nancy Sinatra version the most. This singer can try and use sex to sell her music all she wants, it ain't that great.

  54. 54

the song is actually by nancy sinatra numnuts.

  55. 55

Do your own research before you criticize someone else's knowledge, it just makes you look unintelligent.
