Going Back For More Babies?

Here we go again!
Reports continue to swirl that Madonna is desperate to adopt a second child from Malawi, this time a little girl.
Her Madgesty allegedly wants to adopt a two year-old girl named Mercy James. The little girl's mother died during childbirth and she lives in an orphanage.
However, the child's family has said they are "not interested" in having Madonna adopt the baby.
WTF?!? The girl is an orphan and lives in an ORPHANAGE yet her family doesn't want her to get the best life possible and be adopted?
Apparently, Madonna tried to push the adoption through last year, but Mercy's uncle blocked it.
Uhm, so why doesn't her uncle adopt her????
Madonna reportedly tried again to adopt her in May by sending aides to speak to her family. However, they were only going to agree to it if Mercy was returned to them at six years old.
The girl's grandmother (why doesn't she adopt her either?) has said "When Mercy is no longer a baby we want her back. I do not want the money they said they'd give me."
This is still sounding a bit crazy to us.
So they wanted Madge to "rent" the girl?
M's process of adopting David Banda took about two years.
Let's hope this adoption doesn't take as long!
P.S. Why doesn't she pick a country where where foreign adoptions are easier??????

this is ridiculous… so this child is in an orphanage but shes not an orphan, there is an uncle and a grandmother, who want her when shes grown up but not when she's young… sounds like they dont want the responsibility… and they cant say that they want the best for her which is why she's in the orphanage in the first place and they can't support her… they should just give her to Madonna who would give that kid everything!!!! adopt me!!!

Malawi doesn't have any real adoptions laws she explained this on Oprah right after she adopted David. These people can't afford the kid so they put them orphanages why not let someone adopt them. That is crazy she is saving someone's life that is just the way I see it.
Maybe the family doesn't want her leaving the country and can't afford to adopt her. Having her return at an older age may be an option for them because the care will be easier financially and physically. You always assume the worst of people. Just because this is Madonna they should give the child up to her?

What families has Madonna broken up? David Banda's? He was dumped off at an orphanage and was suffering from pneumonia when Madonna adopted him. There are lots of foster children in America that need loving homes, half a million and growing I hear. I guess Madonna wants a baby from Malawi so David will have a sibling from his homeland….a child in need is a child in need - doesn't really matter where they're from.
It's actually quite common in areas of africa for children to live the first 5 years of their life in an orphange and then return to the family. Families usually send their children to orphanges at birth because they can't afford to feed them and if a child suffers poor nutrition for the first 5 yrs of their life they have a lower rate of survival later on. Once the child is older the families are rejoined since (usually) the family wants their child back and children are important for family survival.

DUH, it's HARD to take care of a baby/toddler…it's demanding and if you're not a lactating mother and don't have spare resources, then it's expensive too. If these folks had the means, I'm sure they'd take her in.
And as for why they don't want some crazy-ass white woman buying their relative and take her away to another continent/hemisphere…hrm, maybe because she's some crazy ass white woman who's basically trying to BUY a family member from them?! If she's offering them money, then how is this not buying a child? Isn't that illegal in most places? And isn't it still technically illegal for a foreigner to adopt a child in Malawi??

Madonna is 13 years older than my GRANDPARENTS were when I was born. (NO…I am not from the South, but California). A staggering 48 year age difference between mother and child is not good. Not to mention this must be Madonn'a 4th kid. I don't care what ANY one says—it is very difficult to give children INDIVIDUAL attention when you have too damned many. Each person on eartch needs attention and to be a real 'individual." When there's too many- they're treated like CATTLE or a "pack" or left to nanny's to deal with. Plus, Madonna's career has always been #1 in her life, before all family, friends and even boyfriends and husbands. I happen to know—lots of money means nothing to a kid, compared to affection and individial attention.

In Malawi, adoption is different than in the UK or The US. Famillies still have contact with adopted children; closed adoption is not common. Perez, I do love you, but to suggest that Mercy's uncle is deficient in someway for NOT adopting the child, is misguided. People are POOR in Malawi, REALLY, REALLY poor. Poverty is a difficult concept for some people to grasp. Most people can only afford to eat once a day. In our orphanage and vulnerable children's centre we raise money to provide education and food for 200 children who's parents are either dead, or too sick to work. And no, there is not a welfare system. If you don't work, you don't have money; simple as that. I know this site is fun and it gives us all a few moments of total escapism, but don't take the piss out of people who are in absolute dire straights and then worship some rich bitch who has managed to completely screw up a system for other less glory hunting , honest, altruistic individuals who want to help as many people as they can and not 'buy' a child who they don't want to be infected with HIV so they test loads and dump the ones who turn out positive. I believe she had a school built, a Kabala school of course, in a predominantly Christian country. I have never met a Kabalist in Malawi?!
How weird that the grandma wants to loan out the child for a few years. Why can't she adopt babies without parents?

There are alot of children here in the USA that need and deserve a good home. Why do these celebs think only of other nations when it comes to children in need? They need to look around.
Why are people so ignorant and think Madonna doesn't love kids because she doesn't show them off like other celebs do when going out/about? Seriously. Did you guys ever think about the possibility that Madonna doesn't show them off because that puts even more publicity towards THEM? The reason that she's in an orphanage and not with the family members is probably because they can't afford to take care of a baby and would rather wait until she is older *6* so that she can better take care of herself and help with chores to bring in money to the family. That's probably why the Uncle and grandmother don't adopt her. Because it's really harde\ to care for an infant in poverty. Also, it's easier to adopt out of country, she's very involved in this country…her film!, and I think she wants people to see her as more of a …….giving person. She wants to be looked at as more of ethereal.

It is common in some parts of Africa for children to live temporarily with wealthier relatives in order to get through their vulnerable younger years. Infant mortality is very high in these places. They expect the kid to come back when he/she is old enough to work and help support the family. Sadly in Malawi I guess that's six.

Well little girls are worth a pretty pennie to older men as nasty as that is its true and 6 is the age in many tribal ceramonies, or mybey the ophanage is making the fam pay and they dont have the money, they might visit her every day. it is selfish or if it was your baby and you could not sapport her would you still want to be able to see and love her? of corse.
Re: stefystef – Please leave racism out of this. Lionel Ritchie gave Nicole a good home and they are not the same colour. Having a different colour doesn't mean you cannot love someone just as much or provide them with a better start in life. When David grows up, healty and well-educated, he can choose if he wishes to go back to Malawi and help his people but if he had been left there, he'd probably be dead now. Can you honestly say that David would have been better off left in that orphanage because at the end of the day, that's what it comes down to - what's best for the child involved.
