Yet Another Olympics Scandal - What The Chinese Government Didn't Want You To Know!

There were the fireworks and the 'not-cute-enough' scandals, and the still brewing underage Chinese gymnasts scandal.
And now, there's paralysis-gate.
According to the New York Times, a talented, 26-year-old Chinese dancer was seriously injured during a rehearsal for the opening ceremonies 12 days before the show and is now facing the prospect of being paralyzed for the rest of her life.
But, organizers seemed intent on keeping the injury from taking away from the pageantry of the event. They reportedly asked witnesses and friends not to disclose the tragedy ahead of the production last Friday.
However, after an inquiry from the Times about the injury and rumors about it on the Internet, members of the Olympic Committee visited the dancer in the hospital with a television crew and said they would do everything possible to help her.
They also announced that they would soon hold a press conference to offer more details about her condition, according to family members.

So if The NY Times didn't get involved, would the story have been swept under the carpet?

My stepdad-to-be, got an offer a while back, from the Chinese government, to do the lighting for the Olympic games. He researched and talked to colleages, and everyone who worked in China, said it was a bad experience. Big Brother 24/7! It's amazing people have been so sneaky and so brave to get all these stories out. Good Job, and God Bless the dancer.

wow, that is absolutely ridiculous. i am a dancer myself and if i had gotten paralyzed from dancing i would be so upset. especially if it was from practicing something so big and the government tried to hide it. this story should really get out to all of the americans to stop these scandals in china

Ok first off, the "fake fireworks" was the broadcaster's problem. They were the ones who added the images to create the illusion of fireworks on display. Also, I feel so sad for the dancer who is seriously injured from rehearsal. However, I don't think it's a big deal that the Chinese didn't disclose it to the media. Honestly, how many injuries involving dancers do you see on the news or on the front pages of newspapers? It's really time to stop picking out all the downfalls about the Olympics in Beijing, and just enjoy the gathering and competition of the nations.

seriously, if today it's another country say Uk hosting the olympics and all these underage, child singer etc things happened there won't be so much argument and criticism. Let's be real, people are biased towards China, so there are a million things done right in the olympics and there are some not, but people keep focusing on the bad things and then always come back with criticism about how chinese government or country works etc.
Every country has problems, china has been improving A LOT, USA is going backward in recent years as everyone can see. So please, give them a break! People grow up with a total different cultures, dont expect others to be just like you, then the world will be a better place.

Even if there are problems on the home front, the Chinese will solve these problem themselves. Maybe slowly but certainly not with the help of anyone else.
