Colin Powell for Obama?
Former Bush Secretary of State Colin Powell might be breaking ranks with the Republican party!
The Weekly Standard's Bill Kristol says that Colin Powell will show up to the Democratic National Convention in Denver on the week of August 25th specifically to back presumptive presidential nominee, Barack Obama.
“He may well give a speech at the Democratic convention explaining his endorsement of Obama. This is not an absolute done deal, but these people are very confident that Powell will endorse Obama."
Kristol also went on to say that he thinks Powell still has “a high respect” for Obama's Republican rival John McCain.
So, is he trying to make excuses for what the GOP will nonetheless see as 'treachery'?

I hope this is not true. Colin Powell is damaged goods. He was totally up Bush's butt with the Iraq invasion and the Plame outing. He is wrapped up in all the major scandalous crap that went on. Now they are saying Iraq documents were forged by the White House. If Colin Powell wants to do something to clean himself up, he shouldn't use Obama to do it. He should come clean with America before he goes with Obama. He shouldn't use Obama's historical nomination and take away attention trying to clean up his own mess.

Plame was full of it and so was her husband Joe Wilson, they took like 3500 metric tons of uranium out of Iraq about 2 month ago and it went to canada to be turned into fuel. Colin Powell has made the smartest move for this country. He himself opposed Bush's invasion of Iraq and he wrote the Powell Doctrine which clearly states Don't enter a country w/o a clear exit stragety which is what Bush did when he went against Powell's advice. He let the Bush administration after that. That is one very smart Jamaican who will be a very big endorsement to the democratic party. Welcome the Correct side Powell!

Colin Powell refused to state publicly what his political affiliation was, even when serving in a Republican administration. When he was hung out to dry, he left the Bush administration. This isn't so much a matter of him "switching sides," as coming out publicly for a candidate for the first time. I think it would be a powerful endorsement for Obama — much harder for McCain to try to pull the military-superiority act as he has been. And it IS true — being a POW does NOT make you a better commander in chief!

Don't try to make it a race issue. Powell Left Bush for a plethora of reasons, and the Iraq war was the last straw. Powell was not the only general criticizing Bush methods. Pull up the Powell Doctrine and you'll see why the man has done what he has. He's for who's BEST for the position and McCain, hinting at war with Iran is NOT the right choice for us right now especially since he knows nothing of economics or healthcare after 30 years in office!!!

Education
1. He opposes vouchers being used at private schools because he believes they undermine public schools. (What about the financially strapped families who want a better education for their children, than what an overcrowded public school can provide?)
2. Calls for higher pay for teachers and pay based on merit as well. (This is a joke. Tenured, unionized, teachers will NEVER allow a ANY other teacher to get a pay raise, above them.)
Healthcare
Fully supports a universal health care plan and has stated that we require a plan with "everybody in, nobody out. A single-payer health care plan, a universal health care plan." (If it turns out like the UK's health care plan…we are in for a world of hurt….and waiting lines. I have many UK friends and, I heard all the problems, that they are having.)
Taxes
1. Proposed an $80 million dollar tax cut for the poor and middle class (Seems to me, that I heard this song, before.)

Powell was pretty much pushed out of the Bush regime, so I can understand the sour grapes. How could he, in good conscience, NOT support McCain, with his military background?? And let's not make it a race issue - technically, neither Obama or Powell or "black" - I just don't think he needs to jump on anyone's band wagon. Don't believe the hype!

Budget Deficit
1. Eliminate tax credits that are no longer useful (I would love to know which credits aren't useful, anymore.)
2. Clost corporate tax loophole (yeah, right…uh, huh.)
3. Restore the PAYGO policy, which does not allow federal spending without a plan to make up for lost revenue. (Another joke….this guy is the next Jerry Lewis. Maybe France can 'adopt' him…like they did Jerry.)
Foreign Policy
1. Hopes to bring a "responsible" end to the war in Iraq as soon as possible. (This war was started, simply because George wanted to avenge his father. Does anyone remember that we INITIALLY went over that way, in search of bin Laden? Who has suffered? By way of our loved ones, and our gas prices, we have.)
2. Rebuild and construct alliances worldwide in order to battle such problems as global warming (Good luck. While the human lungs take about 7 years to 'mend', from cigarette smoking……it's going to take a helluva lot longer to fix global warming.)
3. Invest in "humanity" by providing foreign aid. (FIX what is wrong with the US….THEN, worry about foreign lands.)
I wouldn't be surprised, it's all about the color of skin anyway. Yet, when a white person is voting for a white man or a woman he's a racist. Sure.
I'm just curious to see how this would be good for the democrats. Powell (Mr. Iraq-war-will-take-only-days-maybe-weeks-but not-a-month) is such a big part of the war in Iraq, the one democrats have been constantly critisizing. But then again, neither logic nor rationality is a strong point for Obamabots. Accusing everyone of racism is.
Btw, what does everyone think about the fact Obama's or should I say Barry Soetoro's school records have him listed as an Indonesian muslim and he's used an Indonesian passport in 1981. Is he even qualified?

Powell has been on the outs with the Bush Admin for quite some time now. He resigned as Secretary of State (back in '05) for a reason - he didn't like what the Bushies were doing to his country!

NO ONE should have to mortgage or lose their lives b/c of a doc bill. The four D's r killing this country: Death, Disability, divorce & departing. W/ what Health insurance companies make in PROFIT we need to hold them accountable & EVERYONE esp. newborns should be entitled to some form of healthcare.

I had High high hig respect for Colin Powell. I think he is an intelligent man who can bring a lot to this country, but if he goes for Obama I will lose a lot of respect for him. I hope it is not just becayse he is also black. I need to hear his reasons for this one!!

And, I will have you know…most private schools are not as equipped (with computers and literature, for example), since they rely mostly on the Vatican, tuition and tithes to the church. I know this, because my son went to a Catholic school.
I agree, that teachers should earn their salaries….but, they are unionized! I grew up in a Union household, and then married into one….believe me, tenured, unionized teachers would have to be caught slamming their students against the blackboard for sanctions to be made against them….and, most of them should never have chosen teaching as a vocation.
Make no mistake…I would LOVE to have adequate healthcare, here in the US….but, I just don't see it happening. It's bad enough that patients who 'pay out of pocket' because they don't have insurance, get charged more to make up for what the insurance companies won't pay, for other patients (I know this for a fact, because it happens to me, all the time)…do you, HONESTLY, think that doctors, nurses and techs will take a paycut?

As for docs and nurses and techs taking a paycut the VAST amount of profits are going into the coifers of the healthcare CEOS and share holders. Doctors, nurses, techs all would rather have LOWER insurance costs ( mal practice suits) rather than pay what they are being extorted for. Plastic surgeons will continue to rake in the big bucks so no change there as for Nixon, he was the FIRST to weaken the green back when he stopped using gold as a paperdollar equivalent our country's wealth. That is why the more $$$ we print the more worthless it is ( NOT to b confused w/ repinting to replace damaged bills).
