Colin Powell Issues Denial

Filed under: Politik > Barack Obama

powell.jpg

Colin Powell is not going to Denver for Barack Obama after all! Sad.

According to a new report, the former Bush staffer told ABC News in a telephone interview: "I do not have time to waste on Bill Kristol's musings. I am not going to the convention. I have made this clear."

ABC said Powell ended the conversation without entertaining any more questions about whether he might endorse Barack.

It wouldn't have been TOO far fetched to see Powell step up to the plate for the B-rock star.

Powell was one of the highest-ranking African-American public officials ever in US history, and he has been complimentary about Obama's bid to become the nation's first black president.

To counter a key line of attack by Obama's critics, Powell told ABC in April, "He didn't have a lot of experience in running a presidential campaign, did he? But he seems to know how to organize the task."

And in February, Powell hinted that he may reject his party and vote against the Republican nominee: "I will vote for the candidate I think can do the best job in America — whether that candidate is a Republican or Democrat or an independent."

Colin Powell would never go against the Bush Adm. He does what ever they tell him, that's why he was so bent on making the point that he wasn't going to the Dem Convention. He's scared Cheney may find out and have his hide. LOL

Re: LettyB – Nobody is relevant except Obama and McCain themselves, but public politcal figures do have a right to voice their opinion. If he did not say he will be there then so be it. someone made up a dumb rumor about it. And If Colin Powell said that stuff in Feb. It doesnt mean he wil reject his party. It means he is smart picking for the right candidate regardless of his party affilitaion! I wish Colin Powell ran for President!!!

I’m not speaking for republicans here but honestly you have to realize that Obama doesn’t have the experience to handle this job! He is a first term senator for Christ sake! I am also not saying that McCain is the best choice either but he at least understands and has experienced war. I don’t agree with this war nor do I agree with Bush sending our Country in to war to finish his Daddy’s business. This is a VERY important election year! It is YOUR job to research and get the facts and vote for the individual that is best experienced to deal and handle our very delicate situation our Country is in. Obama isn’t it! Yes, he is attractive and yes he is an African-American, which would be a great step in racial equality. BUT he is NOT ready for this challenge. Not yet! I am for women’s rights. I am for Gay rights. But I am NOT for Obama! Your vote is VERY important, do base you vote merely on someone else’s opinion. If you do, you are doing yourself a huge injustice!

Whether he's scared of Cheney or not, he's right that we need to vote for the best candidate for their ability to lead the country, not because they're going to be the first African-American, female, Hindu, etc. Do your research, people, and don't let the media sway you with their mind-numbing tactics.

    Re: sugarbaby
You said everything I would have said. THE ISSUES are what matter people. Research the issues the candidates are pushing. WHen the other post stated he was going out for Barack quite a few racist comments were made. Maybe now people will accept that people including blacks aren't just voting B/C of skin colour. LEADER OF THE SHEEP… EAT UR WORDS!

  21. 21

It´s because he knows which people is at his side.

  22. 22

so you think Colin Powell endorsing Obama isn't "TOO far fetched" simply because they're both black? I give Colin Powell MUCH more credit than that.

    Re: KAYTI
You say Obama isn't ready So let me ask you, what's worse… A Bush 2.0 who never wanted to talk to Iran to begin with AND hinted at war w/ IRAN, not to mention has spent 30 YEARS in office and knows NOTHING about healhcare or the economy? What's has he been doing in COngress for 3 years then?! u didn't bring her up but Sentor CLinton has been in Senate the same length of time as Barack where's her experience? Being first lady is NOT "experience" people. As for showing up 143 days to the office, why don't you pull the ticker on McCain, Clinton, Edwards, how many days have they showed up to EARN their automatic salary increases?
To be blunt I am tired of career politicians that are indebted to lobbyists of corporate America who put corporations first before the American People. Not to mention the fact that world leaders are more receptive of Obama than McCain. The political stage favors Obama and you have to ask why. The BBC is the most trusted network in the world. We as Americans need to broaden our viewing of domestic and foreign issues if we want to gain a full perspective on events that occur in our name. We need to exit Iraq and handle issues here. McCain has no intention of leaving Iraq anytime soon. So we'll have to agree to disagree. America is the only democratic government too scared to hold accountable for its wrong doings we as a people need to reclaim our power period.
