Minorities will soon be the majority in the U.S.
And that's a good thing! This country was built by immigrants!
The U.S. Census Bureau projects that the nation will become more diverse with minorities becoming the majority population by 2042.
The Director of Stony Brook University's Center for Regional Policy Studies says, "It's already happening on Long Island." The Hispanic population in Suffolk county has gone up 10.5% alone just since 2000.
Koppelman adds, "Hispanics are primarily drawn here by economic opportunity. If the economy remains robust on Long Island, this population will continue to expand."
Hispanic residents continue to increase nationwide as well. They made up about 12.4% of the population in 2007. That's up 10% from back in 2000.
According to the Census Bureau, minorities are approximately one-third of the nation's population right now. By 2050, however, they will grow to about 54% of the population. That would be about 133 million minorities.
The black population is also expected to rise from 14% today to 15% by 2050.
And, the Asian population will rise about 4.1% by 2050.
However, non-Hispanic whites are projected to drop from 66% now to about 46% by 2050. Their population numbers will stay around the same, going from 199.8 million today to about 203.3 million by 2050.
And, aside from ethnicities, the entire population will also be aging. By 2050, projections are that one in five Americans will be 65 years-old and older.

i was born and raised in ohio and moved out to norcal about 6 years ago. my daughter is now 9 with blonde hair and blue eyes and she's a minority in her school. i've never been racist and thankfully because of being here she doesn't see color either. it's strange though when i grew up in a state where there was only white, black and asian and now i'm in a state where there is so many different ethnicity's! it's awesome!

I worked at Macy's for over a year and two things happened on a daily basis: I got cussed out in Spanish for not speaking it (I'm from Ohio, there's no need to learn Spanish there), and I had to explain to children why their parents credit cards weren't accepted because the child was the only one who spoke English. Our crime rate is ridiculous - just recently we lost a police officer who was shot by an illegal. One day the rest of the country will be affected the way we are, and they won't like it much either. When I lived in Ohio I was all about the melting pot theory…until I moved here and was forced to lose part of my own culture just to survive - and why? Because Mexico sucks? And instead of making it better they come here and drain off of us? Awesome.

The growing numbers of latinos is factually because of the prevalence of catholicism and the social values of latino peoples, these factors allow them to have an astounding rate of reproduction. Pregnancy at 13 is socially acceptable, therefore, they are reproducing at a faster rate than whites. Whites are literally being bred out and into a minority because whites historically reproduce at a slower rate due to their social values.
Also, all you morons reading this and cheering, i.e. hawaiinGIRL, should really take a long trip through Latin America and find yourselves witnessing catastrophic social management among the people, these same people who are about to overtake the country. People who are crippled with religious beliefs and who are hopelessly ignorant. This is an invasion.
I'm a student of history and anthropology, and I can tell you right now that this is not good news.

As for building this country EVERY minority has had a hand in it. During WW2 America begged Mexico South America to send men to us to help us w/ our agricultural work while our boys were overseas. We never stopped exploiting then and we still exploit hispanics (illegals) now so everytime you pick up a piece of fruit, eat at a nice restaurant, pick up a pack of meat etc, thank minority illegals for keeping costs down. They cost us 9 billion in taxes and SAVE us…oops corporate America 58 Billion in NOT paying Americans to do the jobs they do. As for crime no race is predisposed to crime and violence so you have to ask WHY is crime rate high in theHispanic community. There's oviously other mitigating factors.

Us Native North Americans, this is all we have but no one recognizes that. We are rapidly losing our languages and culture. Unfortunately we have no other place in the world to go back to in order to learn our culture. But North America has evolved into a big melting pot; people are free here to practice their own religions and customs etc. But what about our culture? Our ancestors were persecuted for practicing their religion by the immigrants who came to settle here. It would be nice to be able to get more recognition for the original people of turtle island.

more diversity really does mean that there will be less and less of an "american culture." watching the olympics makes me proud to be an american but aside from this, it's just sad. people around the globe think of us as a bunch of morons with no culture, values or tradition. i'm not saying that our culture has to be "white" but i don't see how our country (of so many different cultures, languages etc.) can become more united when all we're concerned with is the color of our skin or the shape of our eyes…is it really possible to all become one country with one culture and build our own traditions when we can't even agree on speaking the same language?
p.s. the u.s. still does not have an official language! i'm pretty sure that all native americans were forced to learn english, so what would be so wrong about having english as an official language. it just makes everyone's daily life so much easier (and signs so much smaller because it'll all be in English and not translated into a gazillion languages)

This country was founded by immigrants that had completely different ideals and goals for this country than the ideals and goals the majority of immigrants have today. Those immigrants came to this country to live freely, without persecution by the government and to have religious freedom. Many of the immigrants in this country now support government intervention in all aspects of life (education, economics, health care, etc). The fact is that immigrant reliance on government programs has increased significantly, placing a higher burden on taxpayers. Yes, let's celebrate the fact that whites are a minority and that immigrants will take over this country and run it into the ground. Let's celebrate the demise of the United States. Let's celebrate all the immigrants that come here looking for a free ride, under the guise of wanting higher pay and freedoms, yet demanding government assistance. Let's pretend that we love "diversity" while celebrating the decrease of "white" population. Is it not prejudiced to be thrilled that an ethnic group is declining, while other ethnic groups are rising?

L.A. is 42% Latino and 30% "white" (which seems to include my middle-eastern husband). Within 50 years L.A. will be 100% Latino. Where is the "diversity" in that? One race simply taking over because there are more of them does not DIVERSITY make. If the Latino majority can't make room for the rest of us they're no better than the racists they claim us to be.

I am moving to get away from all the "immigrants" bleeding the state dry and not doing anything to help themselves. They refuse to learn the english language, and I think it's sad when their 5 year old has to translate for them.
I am getting down off my soap box before I say something else…but I have a strong opinion on this. If they want to be here LEGALLY and contribute to our community and our country…try to make a living without being dependent on the state for food and housing…GREAT. I'm all for that.
