The U.S. swimmer is attempting to break the record set by Mark Spitz of winning the most gold medals in one Olympic Games. That record is 7.
Thus far, Phelps has won 5 gold medals and set 5 world records.
Friday, he swam again.
So, how'd he do????
Well, he's pretty much unstoppable.
He did it!!!!!!! He did it!!!!!!
Michael won the 200-meter individual medley on Friday.
AND, yet again, he set another world record!!!!!
Phelps took home the gold. That's his sixth of this game. And his 12th Olympic gold medal overall.
6 gold medals down, only two more to go to accomplish the never-been-done-before.
Amazing!

Michael is awesome - these are the athletes that should be role models for our children, not those over-paid, whiny assed pro athletes (Hello, Brett Favre, I'm pointing at you, you has-been lame-o) These are some really talented youngsters and they've been given a wonderful opportunity to represent the USA. I'm proud of all of 'em!

Awesome! I grew up with Mark Spitz and remember the excitement when he won his medals. Seeing Michael come along now and achieving what he has is icing on the cake. I hope he does set a new record. The old one has sat long enough. Goooo Michael!!!!!

ugh. I'm so sick of Michael Phelps. Win he wins he doesnt even seem happy, he seems angry. And when its a relay, he gets all of the credit. The coverage this year is horrible and only focus on him. Hes like 23 i think, something seems fishy to me. He's competed before, and didn't beat the record. I know practice helps but still. That much ahead? They always ignore the other USA swimmers which is really annoying, and they always say "next up michael phelps!" like he's a damn sport! ughh.

There is a tape delay on the other side of the country, hence why people were so upset about the fake fireworks. They played fake ones for the time delayed viewers; including some in the United States.
I'm also getting my dance on to the Nelly Furtado concert on MTV. Work it, bitch!!! lol.

He definitely makes America proud, and especially makes Maryland proud. I hate that I wind up having to catch glimpses of the Olympics at work; I wish I could really watch and enjoy them fully.

They announce that he's next because it lets people who may not have tuned in for anything else know he's coming up. I think anything that gets people interested in the Olympics to be a good thing. Swimmers are some of the hardest and most dedicated athletes; they train constantly. There is nothing suspect about success when you work as hard as he must.

It's about team USA, not Michael Phelps. He puts in alot of work, but he's not the whole swimming team. And the most annoying thing is when they show gymnastics getting ready, then right when they're about to compete they switch to swimming, talking about Michael Phelps, showing him, and its the women.
He is like a damn fish! They were dissecting his body on the news tonight, he is made for swimming. He is 6'4, but his torso is that of a 6'8 man, his legs are of a 6'0 man. His arm span is 6'7. He is also double jointed or something. Combined with his hands and feet, he is the perfect swimmer genetically. Perez, should also give a shot out to Ryan Lochte for his gold and Aaron Piersol for the bronze. Also Rebecca Soni KICKED ASS in the 200 meter breaststroke to win the gold.
