Did the protests work?
According to early reports, the big budget film Tropic Thunder won't make back what it cost to make in its first full weekend out.
Thunder opened this Wednesday to $7.5 million, that's just 40% of what Pineapple Express made in its Wednesday debut last week.
The film is expected to pull in $41 million tops this weekend, well below expectations.
Thunder cost about $100 million to make. Express only cost about a quarter of that at $27 million.
And, unlike the stoner movie, when surveyed ladies revealed they aren't really interested in seeing Tropic Thunder.

It looks funny enough, but the lure of an Apatow movie like Pineapple Express is stronger. If he's given it his golden seal of approval you already know it's going to be funny.

I actually heard that the Tom Cruise (yuck, phtoooey) cameo is really funny. I'd be interested to see it just to see if that is true.

IT WAS AWESOME!!! I got to see it on Monday at a screening, and i cant wait to go see it again, its WAY funnier than Pineapple Express.. you dont have to be high to think its funny either! I hope more people give it a chance..

I think that the actors in the movie are very funny and that should make for a good comedy. Girls should be more open to seeing things that aren't about only "girl" stuff.

I saw it, and it was too hit-n-miss to even rival 'Pineapple'. RDJ, Cruise and even Matthew McConaughey stole the show from most of the leads. Stiller and Black were just downright unfunny.
I saw it, I didn't really want to go, it was HILARIOUS!!!!!!! I'm going to see it again.

7.5 is still really good for a wed opening. 41 million is pretty good for a weekend opening as well. i think this movie will deff make over 100 by the time it's done.

No way. This is not the first time that Ben Stiller has taken the joke too far. There is humor and then there is offensive humor. Remember "There's something about Mary"? I had a problem with Tropic Thunder since the first time I saw the trailer and Robert Downey Jr.'s character. I understand the joke Mr. Stiller is trying to make-that some actors take themselves too seriously, but the point could have been made in a much less abrasive manner. As a minority, I know first hand that being made fun for being different is no fun. Those of you that find this type of humor funny have never been on the receiving end. I truly believe that there is a way to convey humor without being hurtful and disrespectful.
Actually, I saw this opening night and laughed my ass off! Because I had zero expectations from it, it turned out to be hilarious. This is a good example of when commercials don't showcase how funny the movie really is.

Hey I saw it yesterday and I am female. Thought it was worth seeing and had some incredibly funny parts. Robert Downey, Jr. was hilarious.

they did a sneak preview screening of it at Camp Pendleton a couple weeks ago and it was honestly one of the funniest movies. it was so great. you should give it a try…it really was good.

Tropic Thunder was HI-larious. Screw all that PC crap. The retard stuff was great. It destroyed Pineapple.
i saw it, you should too. it was smart and funny…very funny. the cruise cameo alone was worth price of admission. then again, i'm not a stoner.

I'm a girl and I loved the crap out of this movie!!! We went for the sneak preview on Tuesday and I laughed from the beginning to the end. The commercials do not do it justice. Robert Downey Jr. is amazing and Jack Black for once didn't annoy me.
I also worked with the developmentally disabled for years and do not find it offensive to them as much as it mocks how pompous the actors are who play those parts. Give it a chance guys, you won't be dissapointed.

Robert Downey Jr. is absolutely brilliant in this movie, and so is Tom Cruise. I walked out feeling that Tom Cruise may still be human after all.
Also, the last scene is fabulous! There are many cameos in it, and by some big-time respected actors.

i saw it at a special screening on monday and thank god i didnt have to pay a single dime! i was bored the majority of the movie! im not surprised its tanking.usually jack black and ben stiller make great films but this was just done in poor taste!
