It was bound to happen - Michael Phelps did it.
He TIED Mark Spitz's record of most gold medals won in one Olympic Games!!!
The U.S. swimmer took home his 7th gold in Beijing on Saturday in the 100-meter butterfly.
But, it was very very close.
Phelps clocked 1/100ths of a second faster (50.58) than his foe, Milorad Cavic of Serbia.
Now, Phelps has the opportunity to break history as he goes for his 8th gold medal.
Think he can do it???

This race was….wow! I was amazed, and initially i thought cavic one, but viewing it from under water and in slow motion you can tell phelps touched first. as for tomorrow's race…..i wouldnt be surprised if australia won

That last butterfly stroke was RIDICULOUS. If he hadn't taken the chance to go with it, he would've lost…I mean, have gotten silver. Still, this proves that he's got IT, though he's much better at long distance. I haven't seen him this happy about a win for a while, so I guess it's always better when there's competition.
Lil' Wayne should really give a shout out to him sometime, with all the name dropping for him Phelps has done.
He's done a phenomenal job, but somehow I don't want the U.S. relay team to win gold tomorrow. It's like the Patriots situation last year–if they lose, it'll be a big disappointment, but if they win, we'll never hear the end of Phelps. Eh, as long as he keeps his shirt off, I guess I can handle it.

China was cheating last night. They paid judges to give the Chinese girls in gymnastics better scores..and when they did we called them on it and they changed the scores. Plus using young girls to compete. Of course there's no way for them to CHEAT AND BEAT PHELPS..UNLESS IT WAS A ROBOT THAT COULD SWIM THE SPEED OF LIGHT.

for fucks sake, i am so tired of the olympics only being about michael phelps, and i'm sure he is too. the way other AMAZING competitors have been ignored in these games is ridiculous.
the truth is cavic should have won. the only reason phelps got it was because his arm is longer than cavic's, cavic was there before him! and actually, ryan lochte IS a faster swimmer than phelps. phelps is a mid-distance swimmer, in shorter races, lochte has always been faster than he is. i've seen it!

uhmm ok.. yeah, he does get a lot of exposure but a) he didn't ask for it and b) it's expected because he's about to beat a record that's been standing for like 30 years. and saying he only won because of the length of his arm is like saying michael jordan only beat someone because he's taller. The way your built is either a disadvantage or an advantage. But what Cavic was lacking in a physical sense, he should have made up for in speed and skill. Michael literally has the body, the drive, and the talent of the perfect swimmer. And in the end, that's the deciding factor.

As a former year-round state champion swimmer who has swam with the likes of all the greatest swimmers in the world, I want to make it very clear that Michael Phelps has done what no other swimmer in this age can do. I have watched his 100 fly swim in the Olympics over and over again…to be in 7th and win…I am completely amazed and shocked about this swim. Let me be clear—I am NOT a complete 100% Phelps fan–I believe Ryan Lohte or Natalie Coughlin are a better swimmer all around—but Phelps is magical to the sport of swimming. Short of a false start in the medley relay–he is good for 8 gold medals. Phelps has turned me into a believer that you can do whatever you want in the Olympics. GOD! I am still in full shock about this. I am not usually proud of America, but Damn, Michael, you put me at a loss for words.
