Master P. P. Miller is getting down to business.
In 2009 he is launching a family-friendly cable network called Better Black Television.
The network will provide "positive content for a black and brown culture," according to a company statement.
BBTV will be a jack-of-all-trades general entertainment channel. There'll be scripted and unscripted programming, news, a drama AND a comedy series, movies, animation, sports and entertainment news, children's educational and teen programming, as well as "responsible hip-hop music and videos."
What about irresponsible hip hop????

BBTV advisory board members include Oscar winner Denzel Washington.
The new channel is taking on the black-oriented cable channel BET.
However, the man formerly known as Master P. stressed that he has "a great relationship with BET and MTV" and that he and his son, Lil' Romeo, "will continue to do work with them and support their networks."
He also acknowledged BET founder Bob Johnson.
"I remember him telling me back in the day that if you wanted to know real estate, you've got to hang out with real estate investors. If you wanted to know sports, you've got to hang out with athletes. I wanted to know TV, so I hung out with Bob and learned the TV game from one of the best in the business."
Production on BBTV's programs has begun in California, New York, Louisiana and Florida.

Just about every channel you see on tv is 'white entertainment'…tell me how often you see blacks in commercials selling Downy on any other channel than BET? The hispanics have their own channel, in their native language with their soap operas, game shows and whatnot. What is wrong with black people having a network with shows directed at them and their culture? That's just as silly as the woman I heard one time saying "Black history month? Where is white history month?" Silly people…everyday in America is a white day.

Why not improve on the AMERICAN community? We will never be as one if everyone segregates. Blacks spent years to become equal in every way (which is a GREAT and I am happy for that) but then they segreate themselves in so many other ways?
We need to be a nation of AMERICANS and not defined by race.

MAybe he's calling it Better Black Television because many black people say that BET portrays black people in a negative fashion! Just a thought…He's definately taking aim at BET! Its a shame that we have a Black Presidential candidate and people are still saying, "tell YOUR people to rise above and do something with their lives to contribute something other than a black tv station." This is disgusting. As others have said - if 'white' people started their own channel aimed specifically at white people, that would be classed as discrimination.
The only people keeping discrimination alive are the blacks. They expect to be treated differently. They expect that we owe them for what happened to their ancestors. They are given all the same opportunities as anyone else. In fact they get MORE! And this just goes to prove it!! If it were the other way around, there'd be all sorts of trouble.

Wow.. being an inner city teacher, I really applaud Master P for this initiative. My students don't wish to be astronauts, lawyers, teachers, mechanics, or any other profession. They all wish to be rappers. Nothing wrong with rappers except everyone isn't blessed to be one. My students need positive influences. So all you people who talk about if we have an all white channel?!?! How about over 200.. almost all channels are white orientated.

White people can (and do) create shows specifically targeted to white people…. and they do it like, everyday. Get your heads out of your a$$es. Think about your favorite shows–is there really a main black character on them? Most likely not. The only problem with Master P's network is that it has "black" in the title but he should take cues from white people and name it something simple like "Bravo," "Spike TV", "Oxygen" or my very favorite white people's network: "NBC."

I'm black and I think this sounds really dumb, BET is bad enough - but, if Denzel is an advisory board member then it might be a little better.

If you don't know Master P is worth over $400 million, waaaaaaaay before P.Diddy and Jay-Z AND he made his money on his own and not from endorsements and crappy fashion labels. I respect P, I wish him well and I hope that this TV Channel is corny like Master P's "rap snacks".
