i believe the chines should get there medals taken away. i think were only going to find out that some of the other girls are even younger than her. on the other had i feel bad for the girls cause i don't believe its there fault that there coaches and there country let them into the olympics. i think the country should be in trouble not the girls.

Absolutley the chinese should be stripped of their medals! They lied. BUT atleast they will have the satisfaction of knowing that they did beat the americans. Im sure the american girls wouldnt feel so great knowing that they were given the gold by default. I just give the medals right back to the chinese because they were better…

Why aren't we surprised??? I mean, home cookin' when you have the Olympics in your country?? If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin' - and they've been cheatin' their asses off apparently!! Everyday there's some new scandal, but we all act as if this surprises us! China???? Cheat??? No way!! I'm sure they didn't intentionally put lead-based paint in a bazillion toys they shipped over here either.

Should this really come as a surprise to anyone? Every day it seems that another sham is coming to light, something else they've done to make the world believe something about the competitors or China that isn't true, something else that's been covered up. Communism at its finest. I feel sorry for those girls because I'm sure they've been told to keep their mouths shut and to lie if asked about their ages. Imagine the pressure that's on them. China apparently feels that the rules that everyone else has to abide by don't apply to them and they are blatantly thumbing their collective noses at the IOC and the rest of the world. Maybe they figured that as hosts no one would say anything and it appears they were right. I think it's disgusting that apparently they will get away with it.
and don't forget that in china, they consider you to be one year old when you are born, so she may actually be all of 13 this year!

ah get over it. i'm a gymnast and I know that US wouldn't have won anyway…they barely stuck any of their landings, did a bunch of balance checks, and alicia fell twice. Chinese gymnasts performed extraordinarily. Theres nothing that can be done most likely about this because the only thing the IOC cares about is the age on the passport. everyone needs to stop whining. the USA wouldve chosen experienced gymnasts over younger gymnasts anyway if they had a choice.

I'm not really bothered by this. If a 14 year old can kick a 16-20+ year old's butt in Gymnastics then why punish them for that. Yeah the rules say she must be 16 but if they are good at 14 then why not let them compete. I do wish China keeps the medals. I thought the chinese women were amazing.

They have been cheating for years, go onto google and type in "chinese swimmers steroids" you will see that China has had more people busted for steriod use than the rest of the world combined since 1990. They are just like the old East German govt. They want to win and won't let rules or fair play stand in their way.

China did an amazing job! They were able to use gymnasts with LESS experience and perform extraordinarily. I am a gymnast and I know for a fact that USA messed up BIG time during their team finals by not sticking most of their landings, performing too many balance checks, and alicia falling twice didn't help either. The IOC only cares about the age on their passport. Sure, its shady but there are many more shady things out there the world needs to care more about. Even if the USA had a choice of taking on a younger vs. an experienced/older gymnast, they would chose older gymnasts.
I would say someone who is TWENTY like Alicia Sacramone should have an advantage, considering she’s older and has more overall experience. Yet she fell TWICE when it counted the most, adding up to 1.7 in deductions. The U.S. Team finished only 2.375 behind China, so if Alicia didn’t fall, the team would’ve been in a better mindset and could’ve even finished ahead of China. Stop being a sour grape! Nastia and Shawn went 1-2 in individual all-around, so let the better Chinese team keep their gold! They’re a better TEAM and performed better than the U.S., so they deserve it!
The U.S. team needs to quit whining about this, move on, and try harder next time. So we've already established that the Chinese are shady. Big surprise. We knew that going in. And why would they want to shed light on the fact that their asses got whooped by a 14 YEAR OLD anyway in front of billions of people?
If this is all true, then China should be stripped of the medals won by the underage Olympians. Also, China shouldn't be allowed to compete in the 2012 Londan gymnastics either. That should be their punishment. Why is China such a crappy loser? Because you ARE a loser if you have to CHEAT to win!

like at the opening ceremonie when the little girl "sang", it was actually a different little girl singing but she wasn't as pretty as the other girl, she had cricked teeth so she couldn't be seen

Those of you claiming to know about Gymnastics and saying it is better to use older gymnasts are obviously liars. Younger girls are more flexible and don't have the hieght or wide hips to mess up their balance and rotation, they also have had less chronic injuries. If age and experience were what Gymnasts needed then Mary Lou Retton would still be on the Olympic team. Most young gymnasts have to quit the sport if they get a growth spurt and get to over a height of 5ft 1in. It is MUCH harder for them to do tricks with longer limbs. That is why they put the age limit on there, to protect the younger girls from the mental stresses of international competition and the possibility that their bodies would be permanently damaged by govts. forcing them to over train. So again, those of you saying that the younger smaller girls (Who start training in China at the age of 3) would not be as good as older experienced gymnasts do not know what you are talking about.
At least they didn't do anything to enhance their performance like steroids? That goes to show that young 14 year olds beat the U.S. Yeah that's right, I said it. Yeah it is cheating, but Perez don't be jealous because a bunch of youngsters beat your damn country. I've been reading some of the comments and I have to disagree with those of you who think it doesn't matter what their age. Rules are Rules and they should follow them. There might be another country that has a kick a– 14 year old but didn't know that it was OK to lie about her age so she didn't get to compete. It is only fair. I feel sorry for the China girls because you know that they had no say in this what so ever!!!!

First of all, its incorrect to say cheaters; its cheats and do you honestly think that girl would have willing competed? It was not down to her, she's just a kid.
It's really bad for the Chinese to have lied about this. However, I don't believe the entire team should be stripped of their gold medals. The biggest culprit here is the Chinese government, and thus, they should be the ones taking the punishment.
Also, just a side note: the Chinese were better than the Americans in the women's team final - no one who watched it could've thought otherwise.
If this turns out to be true then the medal should be taken away and hopefully it will.
There was an athlete this year that was stripped of his olympic gold medal from the Olympics in 2004 so even though it´s not right away it could be done in the future.

That's because the IOC doesn't give a flyin flip if they're underage-as long as their getting thier precious money. It's not fair, but guess what? That's what the world has come to.
you generally cannot tell how old these tiny gymnast trolls are from looking at them, the nature of their sport stunts their growth, keeping them from getting their periods, developing feminine curves, etc. the american girl who won the gold looks like a old massive beast compared to her own team mate who won silver, and she's an actual regular girl. that said, if they lied they have to give back their medals, no question about it. overall, from the CGI fireworks to the little girl singer fake out, the Chinese officials have really made the whole country look bad, it's a shame.
what i don't get is that the english diver tom daley announced publicly that he is 14yrs 81 days at the start of the olympics and that's fine…… i don't agree that the chinese lied but not sure why he's allowed and she's not - are there different rules for different sports? and what's the difference between diving and gymnastics (no smart answers please) especially as gymnasts are basically done and physically f***ed by the age of 18 without any real money or prospects… Please Explain!

What it comes down to, is the SPORT !! If you have the talent and ability to comete/ win gold medals, the age does not matter. The Chinese should not give up their medals ’cause they deserve them and they worked very hard for them. I dont see how age is the big problem here. For example, if Chinese were 18 they would still win.
Well, I read several things on the internet recently. one of them said that the reporter who was interviewing asked He how old she was and she said 16. but then the reporter proceeded to ask her how did you celebrate your 13th birthday as an attempt to trick her. the girl said something about i celebrate my birthday with my teammates and didn't correct the reporter. I don't know though… i mean they do look too young to be 16. but people, perez can't do shit, it's not like the IOC is going to listen to Perez Hilton. and oh stop whining about how the Chinese government sucks and all, they're a communist country for a reason. maybe people have different opinions on what is a good government, just because the government doesn't reveal every single thing that goes on doesn't mean they're a corrup government. I also heard that a week or so before the Olympics started, that the chinese had two way mirrors in rooms where other teams were talking, and they were spying on the other teams..A coach from another country saw them through the mirror and tried to break into the room. And it was all over the news that all of the major hotel chains in Beijing were having the internet bugged in each room…Makes you wonder how they have so many gold medals..

In an effort to protect the health of athletes whose bones and muscles have not fully formed, FIG years ago instituted the 16-year-old age minimum. To compete in these Games, a gymnast had to be born in 1992 or earlier.
A younger and presumably smaller gymnast would have an advantage in some disciplines due to their nimble nature. Nadia Comaneci scored seven perfect-10s in the 1976 Games when she was just 14.

You know, there are Chinese people that are 50 that look 30 too. Asians do tend to look a lot younger than they are. It seems like it's the Season to hate China. I wish people would actually question their OWN government's motives as well before soley blaming China for falsifying information. If you lost, you lost. If there is cheating, then I hope that these athletes DO lose their medals. I think it's too easy to jump to conclusions. Newspapers have been known to lie. Lest we forget that George Bush also censored the US media from video taping the return of slain soldiers from Iraq? It's also kind of sad to see ugly things come out from people. Someone called the Chinese people "squints" on post yesterday. Pretty sad:(

They should be stripped of their metals, but it's not going to happen. The IOC accepts passports as proof of age, so since the underage Chinese gymnasts were given government-issued fakes, there isn't really much the IOC can do. If they do look into the matter (which they should), it won't be until after the Closing Ceremony, most likely.
It's such a blatant act of disrespect towards ALL the other gymnasts who competed…and to the sport as a whole. Cheating in sports is not new, but for the government to facilitate it?? Unacceptable.
WHile the CHinese did an outstanding job, the fact is You must be TURNING 16 or already 16 andup to compete. I have no problem about the age issue what I care about is if that is the agreed standard ALL should be made to comply. We have capable 13, 14, 15 year olds that could have competed if that's the case. And yes the US fell a couple times etc but you know what they STILL placed second to a bunch of cheaters. The Chinese were beautiful to watch but rules are still rules and cheating should NOT be rewarded. This is why it's hard sometimes to enjoy the games I 'm scared 5 years from now we will learn some Olympian cheated another more deserving Olympian out of their glory….
Re: Michelle Renee C – WHERE did you hear that?? from perez again? you sound like a sore loser, china trains hard for those medals and if you even watched the competitions you would know they deserve them. unless there is SOLID proof, proof that is not mere web pages, then action should be taken. but there isn't… so chill out everyone, if they did cheat, it would come up eventually. if they didn't, then wouldn't you feel bad about calling these girls who've been training all their lives cheaters?
this whole spectulating thing is pointless, there is no way to prove that they cheated except for web pages which are not a reliable source of proof. UNLESS the IOC decides that the age IS an issue, all the whining and shouting in the world won't do any good.

DIVING age requirements DIFFER from Gymnastics. You can dive at 14 ( and younger). You cannot be a competing gymnast, however; until you are 16 or turning 16 that Olympic year. The reasons given are that the muscles of an underdeveloped male/ female takes a hell of a beating as a tumbler. That is not the case with DIving.
