Baby whale seems to think yacht is its mother
Australian media say a lost humpback whale calf has bonded with a yacht it seems to think is its mother.
The 1- to 2-month-old calf was first sighted Sunday in waters off north Sydney, and on Monday tried to suckle from a yacht, which it would not leave.
Rescuers towed the yacht out to sea, and the calf finally detached from the boat but still swam nearby, Australian Broadcasting Corp. and Channel 10 television news reported.
The calf appears exhausted but rescuers hope it will continue out to sea and search for its mother or another pod of whales.
"The outlook is not good, but we are giving the calf its only option. It can't be fed, and in fact we wouldn't know what to feed it" because it is not weaned, National Parks and Wildlife regional manager Chris McIntosh told ABC radio.

What do they mean they don't know what to feed it? Animals are rescued all of the time. Take him to Sea World and let him hook up w/ some whales in there. Duh!

Poor baby! This is so sad. And what a load of crap that they don't know how to feed it. It can be done–they do it all the time–they just don't want to take the effort or expense of helping this poor baby out. Heartless cowards!

We are looking at a humpback whale.. and I believe there are none in captivity. That being said, why they can't feed it is pretty sad, but also makes sense since it's only a baby, and it probably requires specific elements and quantities which are unknown… but I can't understand why they wouldn't help her/him find a pod.
If they keep the yacht at bay, the baby whale will not leave the shore. IDIOTS.
I hope someone's taking care of the baby whale… for the record P stay away from there… you look as big as a baby whale mom with those obnoxious female breasts… you might get confused as well

euthanizekill this poor baby whale tonight.Colin the whale, or Colleen/ette when they figured she was a girl, was euthenised. :[ and the found another whale carcass off the coast i think which they think might be the mother. Poor thing
