The Dave Matthews Band's saxophonist LeRoi Moore has passed away.

He was 46 years young.

The musician was injured in an ATV accident in June, resulting in a punctured lung and broken ribs.

Moore went back into the hospital last month due to complications. He passed away Tuesday in Los Angeles after more complications.

Our condolences to LeRoi's family and bandmates.

That's so sad and shocking. I know someone who recently died of an ATV accident. Perhaps they need more safety features and restrictions.

  24. 24

There's an epidemic of dying among black artists right now. RIP.

  25. 25

Re: omgroflmaobbq – thanks i am suprised that ppl are still posting FIRST on this topic

  26. 26

R.I.P. but you know there are some folks in Chicago who wanted him dead after the DMB dumped their shit (literally) on boaters from a bridge. Karma is a bitch!

  27. 27

This is horrible news. I just saw DMB a couple weeks ago and LeRoi was much missed then, but the thought of him never playing with them again breaks my heart. Thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, bandmates, and all who were moved by his music.

  28. 28

That is sad. People seem to be dropping left and right lately. Hopefully the Grim Reaper takes some time off.

  33. 33

the tears are flowing but I know he's "sittin on top of the world with his legs hangin free". This is a sad day for all of us DMB'ers.

  34. 34

This is SO sad. LeRoi was a remarkable saxophonist, and I loved the sound that he had. He'll be missed. A lot =(

  35. 35

How sad… What a talented musican LeRoi was, he was one of my favorite saxophonist. The clarity of his tone, was outrageous, I dont think DMB will be the same. There is no one else on this planet as good as him. Coltrane, Johnny Hodges, Bird, LeRoi Moore….
    RIP.

  36. 36

  44. 44

Re: tellin ya what I know – are u serious? karma doesnt work like that. maybe an eye for an eye, not death for dumping shit on ppl.

  45. 45

After 51 shows I can't believe that Roi is gone. He is going to be missed severely missed. An amazing saxaphonsit and an even more amazing human being. RIP

  48. 48

i feel like someone just crushed a piece of my heart. this band means so much to me, and to hear that leroi, my favorite member, is gone is just devastating. i can't imagine the hurt that his family and the DMB must feel. they have a show tomorrow night…i wonder if they'll still play? i'm anxious to see what they'll do for the future. i am gonna miss roi so much.

  51. 51

  52. 52

Wow - that accident happened right near me. It was reported locally that it was fairly serious, but he'd make a full recovery. The complications must have been awful.

  62. 62

    Oh, isn't it strange
How we move our lives for another day?
    Like skipping a beat
What if a great wave should wash us all away?
    Just thinking out loud
Don't mean to dwell on this dying thing
    But look at my blood
    It's alive right now,
    And deep and sweet within
    Pouring through our veins
    Intoxicate moving wine to tears
    And drinking it deep
    Then an evening spent dancing
    It's you and me…

This love will open our world
From the dark side we can see a glow of something bright
Oh, there's much more than we see here
    Don't burn the day away

    Is this not enough?
    This blessed sip of life,
    Is it not enough?
    Staring down at the ground
Oh, then complain and pray for more from above,
    You greedy little pig
Stop, just watch your world trickle away
    Oh, it's your problem now
It'll all be dead and gone in a few short years

  63. 63

    Re: Dmbdestiny

i feel like my friend just died, too. wow. i didn't realize that until you said it. =(

  64. 64

Just love will open our eyes
Just love will put the hope back in our minds
Much more than we could ever know
Oh, so don't burn the day away
    Don't burn the day away

    Come sister, my brother
Shake up your bones, shake up your feet
    I'm saying open up
And let the rain come pouring in
    Wash out this tired notion
That the best is yet to come
But while you're dancing on the ground
Don't think of when you're gone

Love, love, love, what more is there?
'Cause we need the light of love in here
    Don't beat your head
    Dry your eyes
    Let the love in there
    There's bad times
    But that's okay
Just look for love in it

And don't burn the day away…

  65. 65

    Look, here are we
On this starry night, staring into space
    And I must say
I feel as small as dust lying down here

What point could there be troubling?
Head down wondering what will become of me?
Why concern "WHAT" we cannot see
But no reason to abandon it
The time is short but that's all right
Maybe I'll go in the middle of the night
Take your hands from your eyes, my love
All good things must come to an end some time
But don't burn the day away
    Don't burn the day away…

    Come sister, my brother
Shake up your bones, shake up your feet
    I'm saying open up
And let the rain come flooding in
    Wash out this tired notion
That the best is yet to come
But while you're dancing on the ground
Don't think of when you're gone

Love, love, love, what more is there?
'Cause we need the light of love in here
    Don't beat your head
    Dry your eyes
    Let the love in there
    There're bad times
    But that's okay
Just look for love in it

  66. 66

My condolences to a great and very, very talented person. If there is a GOD why does he take the talented and leave us with some of the most untalented people on the planet? R.I.P Leroi Moore and thank you for some of the best solos that I've heard!

  67. 67

sad sad sad. gonna burn one for you tonight. i just saw them in memphis a week ago. thank you for good music that takes me back to happy memories from back in the day.

  68. 68

  71. 71

It truly is a tragic day in music history. LeRoi you will be missed. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

  72. 72

dont know who that is BUT good luck to his poor family

  73. 73

I am so glad to see other dmb'rs here and commenting. i learned of this news a couple of hours ago and feel in shock. so sad. i've been a fan of dmb and leroi for the past 11 years. i cannot believe this happened. i also have to give a HUGE kudos to the band for performing tonight at staples in honor of leroi. wow. his music was so moving and beautiful and i'm sure he was an amazing man. he will be missed. my thoughts go out to the band, his family and friends. rip leroi.

  74. 74

they just opened with Bartender at the Staples Center

  75. 75

This is so sad…I have fallen in love to the sound of him playing the sax…I have gotten married to the tunes of this beautiful band…I have had the best times of my life listening to them live. I have listened to this music for my entire adult life, through good times and bad. Their songs have been the soundtrack to my life. I am so saddened by this news. May God be with him and his family and friends.

  76. 76

    Re: Wheaties

nancies and antsmarching are both down, and i'm desperate for updates. please keep us posted.

  77. 77

i'm a huge DMB fan and at our show earlier this summer Dave asked us all to send out our best wishes to LeRoi and his family…this was right after the accident and I am sadden to know we lost such a wonderful musician…My condolences to the Moore family and DMB..

  78. 78

Re: skankage – go to the road section of dmband.com. The second song is proudest monkey

  79. 79

    Re: Dmbdestiny

satellite next! oh my gosh. i'm sure someone will probably record this show…i really wish i could be there to help send good vibes to the band during this rough time. thanks for directing me there.

  80. 80

oh no! Another lost talent… rip

  81. 81

I knew someone who died from a 4-wheeling accident.. They're so dangerous and people do NOT take caution when riding them. They're an accident waiting to happen.
I heard that the Dave Matthews Band played a concert TONIGHT.. if so, that's very disrespectful to his family and his fans.

  82. 82

i'm listening to the songs along with the setlist updates.

    ===

    from CNN:

Concertgoer Christian Tomas of Anaheim, California, said by telephone from the Staples Center that word of the death spread through the crowd before the show.

"All of us are just really sad and down about it," said Tomas, a longtime fan. "But if Dave and the band decided to go on with the show, that means they know it was the right thing to do and Leroi would have wanted it."

    ===

Can you imagine being in the crowd upon hearing of his death? I can't imagine a sadder crowd of people…like a funeral before the world even knew a death had occurred…

  83. 83

sad news he will be missed

  84. 84

    Re: semicolon

i have to disagree with you there. i think leroi would have definitely wanted the show to go on. if anything, i know he's in heaven, enjoying everything from the audience's level for the first time.

  85. 85

So Sad…LeRoi you will be remembered for your music and spirit, Love you always

  86. 86

My heart and soul aches with the sadness of LeRoi Moore's death. LeRoi has been so pivotal in the soundtrack of my life. The music of DMB has become so entwined and entrenched into my very being that certain songs call forth such an extreme emotion as to be felt physically. For every major milestone in my life there is a corresponding Dave Matthews Band song that so perfectly captures what I was going through at that time. Their music has helped me through many a difficult time and heralded some of my most joyous moments.
REST IN PEACE LeRoi Moore, you will be greatly missed.

Gee, this makes me really sad! Talk about talent, gee!

  88. 88

This is truly sad. I love DMB. RIP

  89. 89

The Dave Matthews Band sucks miles of ass.

  90. 90

who gives a fuck! i'm sorry but he is so not even revelant today? he died so sad goodbye….please save your breath, he never gave a shit about you so why give a shit about him?

  91. 91

    Re: mighty meade
AMEN mighty meade!!!! I have been on www.weeklydavespeak.com forums posting for the past couple hours…chatting with others who are bawling like I have been. It's been comforting, but I think we crashed the site about 10 minutes ago :( So, so sad…tonights show will be one to remember…but without the heart of the band :(

  92. 92

Dave announced LeRoi's death after Bartender. A few songs later he told the audience that it is easier to leave then to be left behind, the band then went into So Damn Lucky; there wasn't a dry eye in the house. I cannot imagine how the band has gotten the fortitude to perform tonight with their hearts so heavy with the loss of their friend and fellow bandmate.

  93. DALE says – reply to this

    93

The only bands that suck harder than "dave mathews band" are jonas.bro, and matchbox 20.

  94. 94

If at all gods gaze upon us falls, it's with a mischievous grin…..

  95. 95

    Re: mighty meade

i think the same thing. where are you getting these more specific updates of tonight's show?

  96. 96

Re: skankage – I have several friends at the show who are calling me and texting me. Dave told the audience that they were playing "a bunch of Roi's favorites" and then went into The Maker. I am sad just getting the updates.

  97. 97

I am devastated. Such an amazing musician. Not a good year for talented black men.
    RIP, LeRoi.

  98. 98

I'm getting updates via text too….

I wish I had gone to the concert - i need the therapy right now.

  99. 99

i can honestly say, he was one of the most talented people in teh world, and that i feel privileged to have heard his gift shared with the world… my uttmost condolences

  100. 100

RIP Roi We miss you :(
