      What causes cervical cancer?

      Most cervical cancer is caused by a virus called human papillomavirus, or HPV. You get HPV by having sex with someone who has it. There are many types of the HPV virus. Not all types of HPV cause cervical cancer. Some of them cause genital warts, but other types may not cause any symptoms.

      You can have HPV for years and not know it. It stays in your body and can lead to cervical cancer years after you were infected. This is why it is important for you to have regular Pap tests. A Pap test can find changes in cervical cells before they turn into cancer. If you treat these cell changes, you may prevent cervical cancer.

      Since I have had numerous family members, and friends, diagnosed with cancer (my mother-in-law passed away from it about 1 1/2 months ago)….I don't feel the need to watch this video. To show the video (whether it was benign or malignant) is extremely tacky, pervasive and heartless.

      wow this really hit home for me. Over a year ago I found out that I had HPV and it turned out being one of the worst ones you can get(turns into cervical cancer) I had only been with 3 guys. Its the worst thing that has ever happend to me and even writing about it now brings tears to my eyes. Just 4 months after being diagnosed I already started having pre cancerous cells and therefore had to have the LEEP procedure where they shave out layers of your cervix. Its been a year since then and every pap smear Ive had since has come out normal,but I still have the virus and it could come back again. I feel like HPV is the next worst disease after HIV/AIDS. Id rather have herpes, at least that cant KILL you. Whats crazy is they came out with the vaccine jsut right after i found out.. people..USE CONDOMS and even tho there is not a test out YET for HPV for men make them get tested for everything else..and when they do have one for men you have got to make them do this. I know who gave this to me and I feel so sorry for everyother girl that is going to get this and have to go thry what I have and what many other women do.It makes me so mad to read people saying"well she shouldnt have slept around only sluts get that" THAT IS SO NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!!!! its a horrible horrible thing to have to go thru :(

Regardless, about 75% of people have at least one strain of HPV, many of which do not know it. Condoms do NOT protect you and the vaccine is NEW and only vaccinates you for 4 strains of the virus, while there are over 110 different varieties.

      Taken from the CDC (Canadian Centre for Disease Control - Government) website: HPV is estimated to be one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) around the world. HPV is responsible for approximately 70% of cervical cancers. It is estimated that as many as 75 % of sexually active men and women will have at least one HPV infection in their lifetime.

      I have sat with my 27 year old girlfriend when she was diagnosed with TERMINAL cancer while 5 months pregnant. I watched her and her unborn baby die leaving behind a 3 year old daughter and her husband 3 months later.
      I am now facing possibly having colon cancer myself at 31.
      This is NOT entertaining and I find it DISGUSTING you have this on your site PEREZ!
