Olympics Committee To Investigate Chinese Women's Gymnastics!!!!!!!

FINALLY!
According to a new report, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed on Thursday that it has asked the International Gymnastics Federation to investigate the Chinese gymnastics underage fiasco, following new evidence that at least two gymnasts competed under the legal age in the Olympics.
Evidence unearthed by a hacker has apparently helped the IOC to finally see the light.
Philippe Filacci, Head of Media Operations for Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique, who's presently in Beijing for the Olympics, confirmed that he was aware of the new evidence and said, "We are investigating it."
They should have investigated the underage allegations when they came up BEFORE the Olympic women's gymnastics tourney even started!!
It's all about playing by the RULES everyone AGREED to abide by, right?

I kind of feel sorry for the girls to get the medals taken away. I really don't think it's there fault. I mean despite everything - they won the medals because they were the simply the best. With that said…..best or not - the playing field has to be fair! If there was an Olympic game for 12-15yr olds then that would be fine. But this is not the case. The people who let her perform & knew of her young age should feel ashamed of themselves. Their trainers should be banned from the Olympics PERIOD!!!

That is a good thing… I would feel slightly sorry for the young girls born and raised there who are only doing what they are told and/or forced to do what their country tells them to do. They are only tools for their system… but they are very talented tools nonetheless.
Now if IOC would only look into the Constantina Tomescu snort (heard round the world) while she was racing the women's marathon.
I may get flack on this and I'll take it… DESPITE China and their political and religious preferences, they are putting on a very good Olympics show. They are trying to keep it extremely entertaining and trying to keep the focus on the games. I think that they are doing a pretty good job hosting. They have put a lot of work into the venues and it really has been entertaining.
Do not call me a communist because I am not one. I believe China is still suspect to alot of underhanded dealings… but the games have been very entertaining this year. They have done a good job hosting them.

Thank God! Hopefully they'll get what they need to strip the Chinese of their medals. Nastia Liukin, Shawn Johnson and ESPECIALLY Alicia Sacramone deserve to be given the credit that they deserve.
Maybe if the Chinese didn't train the children so hard their bodies wouldn't be worn out by the time they turned 16!

Please someone enlighten me: Why is these girls age such a big problem when there was a 14 years old boy and a 15 years old girl (both swimmers) competing in Athens 2004? The boy jumped in the pool before time so he was disqualified, and the girl had a panic attack IN the pool and was also dq'ed. These chinese gymnasts have been training since the age of 3, so in terms of physical maturity they are up to par with any 19 year old from western countries. Sure, the Chinese girls are less injured but their downfall is that in psychological maturity, they do not stand a chance before the likes of Nastia Luiki and Shawn Johnson. So it's the Chineses' loss. Not ours.

It is different with gymnastics. The smaller your body the easier it is to perform on the beam, bars, etc. A girl who is 16/17 who has boobs and has gone through puberty doesnt not have the same balance, size and ability as someone who has no boobs, is younger and is all around smaller. thats why most of the girls are shorter then 5'4 and weigh less then 115lbs.

I hope this whole investigation doesn't make other countries look like sore losers, but COME ON! They are CLEARLY underage! Just because you're the effing host country doesn't mean you get to cheat! What I also don't get is how the judging went for the gymnastics! One girl lost her balance at least 5 times on the balance beam, and another girl FELL OFF! Yet they still got good scores and walked away with bronze? What the hell?!
I hope the whole damn team is stripped of their medals! Cheaters don't deserve the honor of wearing one!

I want to point out that anyone who has actually been in the gymnastics world and has gone through all the work that it takes to get to where these gymnasts are would not argue that some of those Chinese girls performed amazing routines…but…it is unfair for them to allow the younger girls to compete for multiple reasons including the puberty issue which is huge in gymnastics & the fearlessness that comes with being younger and having less experienced with performing on the big stage. I guarantee there are plenty of 13-15 year olds here in the United States that have routines that would put them all to shame & I'm sure we'll see some of them in the Olympics in London. I have nothing against China or their gymnasts but in their attempt to dominate the Beijing Olympics they have violated the rules & it's sad that those young girls may have to go through the heartbreak of relinquishing their medals, but the girls that followed the rules have already had to suffer the heartbreak of being beaten by competitors who didn't even belong there in the first place.
if they investigate and discover that 12 year olds beat a bunch of 16 year olds, i think they should have their golds upgraded to platinum medals. that's badass.

Well it's about time! I don't understand why it's taken this long. Who cares if it makes the Chinese government mad? If there's been cheating then the people responsible for it should be punished and the gold medal passed on to the real winner. The rules are meant to apply to everyone, not only those who choose to play by them. Cheating is cheating, no matter what kind of slant the Chinese reps want to put on it. They should be ashamed of themselves for trying to get away with something so blatantly. The whole thing is disgusting and makes them look like fools.

Uh, no, she doesn't deserve to be there, or to win, if she cheated. Even if the Chinese government pressured these girls to lie, it would still be the girls' responsibility t speak truth to power, and not compete.
Okay, first off…most teenagers in China don't look their age. The average American diet consists of a large portion of dairy products, so of course they're going to look bigger than the Chinese. 'Cause if you didn't know, an average Chinese person doesn't eat much dairy in their lifetime, or get that much nutrition. So of course, they're going to look a bit underdeveloped.
And you guys shouldn't be slamming on the girl. She worked really hard to get where she is.
There's a Japanese gymnast that looks just as young. Why not investigate that, too?

If you are smaller and lighter like a 13 year old would be to an 18 year old, then when you fling your ass off the horse, you have less weight transfer to the ground when you come crashing down right. A 13 year old would be less likely to take a step because they hit the ground with less force.

It is most despicable, dishonorable and unsportsmanship thing the Chinese have done. They should absolutely be stripped of all medals wherein these underaged CHILDREN have competed. It is a disgrace.
To everyone who seems to be of the opinion that no matter their age they deserved to win . . . if you actually knew the tiniest little shred about the dynamics gymnastics you would recognize the indiscrepancy caused by that small of an age difference at that particular point in a girls life. The age rule is not there just for kicks, it's there because the younger girls have an obvious advantage physically that creates an unfair lack of balance between the effort required to do what they do as opposed to the older girls who have to deal with breasts and periods. The only way these girls would actually deserve the medals would be if they were actually competing against girls from all the other countries of the same age.

To People asking: the reason for the minimum age requirement in gymnastics is actual to protect the developing body from the rigor of Olympic training. It has been proven that the intensity of the Olympic training and competition is detrimental to the young body. The rule is in place for exactly the reason the Chinese should be called out on this - those girls look stunted and odd, and they were forced out of their homes at age 3 to endure concentration camp type training. It is disgusting. It's child slavery to win medals. The people who pushed these girls to compete and lie should be severely punished and the medals won through dishonest means should be stripped. Plain and simple. It is more important to dissuade the practice of what they are doing to these girls than simply stripping medals.
The bottom line is that this age rule is in place to PROTECT gymnasts! Gymnastics is DIFFERENT than other sports - so much more wear and tear on the body that is especially NOT good for younger, still developing teens! After MUCH investigation by the IOC, they required gymnasts to be 16 because it simply is NOT healthy for younger gymnasts to be competing at the Olympic level. But of course, China has no regard for human rights once AGAIN and ignores this rule.
So EVERYONE STOP SAYING THE US IS BEING A SORE LOSER, AND THAT CHINA DESERVED IT. Bottom line is that China allowed something to be done that is UNHEALTHY and not in the best interest of their athletes, and for that, they should be repremanded and have the gold medals taken AWAY!

THAT's why the rule was put in place, and to save the kids from having their entire childhood's robbed by too intense training. of course, that happens in china anyway. i feel bad for these girls bc i'm sure they had no choice in the matter. but the the rule is to level the playing field, and if/when it's confirmed that they CHEATED, they should be stripped of their team and individual medals. and they should be banned from 2012 olympics, too, the arrogant bastards!

i think the 16 year age minimum is only for gymnastics - with swimming and diving you get better as you mature. look at Phelps 4 years ago, and look at him now!
