According to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft doesn't like being 'cast as a stodgy oldster' by Apple's advertising and has turned to Jerry Seinfeld.
Oh, so they want to be cast as late-middle-age almost stodgy oldster. Plus, it's so backwards looking.
Jerry Seinfeld is so…90's!
Seinfeld will reportedly receive $10 million to be part of Microsoft's giant's new $300 million advertising campaign.
He'll appear in ads with Bill Gates.
Bill deserves to be paired with someone way cooler!
Who do you think Microsoft should have gone with?

MS shold totally have hired PEREZ HILTON! Perez, you'd sell way more PC's than Seinfeld and his plagiarizing wife.

BTW, have you see Seinfeld's stand-up routines lately? His old sitcom was his shining moment; he's not very funny anymore, and certainly not relevant today.

Bill Gates retired from the CEO position on the Microsoft executive board, but is still closely affiliated with the day-to-day of the company. Honestly Perez, it makes me laugh that you consider yourself to be a journalist.

I never watched Seinfeld….did not understand the fascination…..I watched Friends though every now and then but also didnt get the fascination….Lisa Kudrow was the only one I like.

What is so wrong about Seinfeld, Perez? Come on… you kiss the ass of people like Jonas Brothers and the cast of The Hills. You are aware that people in your actual age group (as opposed to 13 year olds) have likely seen more Seinfeld episodes than The Hills, right? I mean, Seinfeld's show is overrated but I'd rather read news about him than about tween nobodies like The Jonas Brothers who'll be bussing tables in three years, while Jerry's show will continue to live on in syndication.

bill gates did not retire or say he was retiring. bill gates moved from a full-time position at microsoft to a part-time one so he could devote more time to the bill and melinda gates foundation.

totally 90s. i was at microgames, hood canal, 1990's and they had jerry booked as part of the evening entertainment. sounds to me like they (MS) are just going to what they knew. staying hip is a life long affair requiring constant updates. great example is you (perez) finding Dan Black's Hypntz redux cover of Biggies. unbelievably updated! bill,sadly, is epic fail at hip ~ but the microgames were good parties!
They live by me….he is a really nice guy, very down to earth and funny all the time…his wife is a mega bitch, snotty as HELL!

that is really what I think happened. Not the best choice for the 20-40 age group… or Microsoft's image, says, that they are not forward thinking, evolutionary, etc. Poor marketing choice… does not send the right message.

Bill Gates NEVER said he was retiring, you moron. Gate said in a press release about six months ago that he plans on lessening his day-to-day responsibilities at Microsoft to focus more on the Gates Foundation. Even after he sheds some of his responsibility, he will still have the final say and will still be in charge at Microsoft.
What's new - a rich white man giving another rich white man money to peddle some shit for him. Does he really need $10 million more dollars? I'm sure TONS of people could use that money! Just like whites.

He is not a hasbeen like many of the losers you keep praisin Piggy… He is a very talented comedian and a very smart guy and producer, his last movie Bee movie was a big success and it's pretty recent, he keeps on doing stand up comedy (I still remember his SF show… I was sooo glad to be there!), he is smart and witty… I can't think of anyone better for those commercials… he is the portray of someone successful, funny and kind.

If Microsoft wanted to show they are "cool" (or cooler than Mac) and are ahead of the curve, they should have chosen someone with worldwide appeal who is considered a trendsetter to the up and coming wired generation and has fans of all ages and races. Justin Timberlake, anybody? Fortunately, $10 million is a chump change to a company like Microsoft. They can re-launch quickly.

It's so funny to see so much praised showered on a bunch of Z-list tween losers, but then when someone from a tv show that people Perez's age actually watched (I am a year younger than Perez, so I'm attesting) like Seinfeld and Roseanne are in the news, Perez always has to slight them. Sorry, give me 90's shows like Roseanne and Seinfeld over The Hills or Hannah Montana anyday, and I think most people in their late 20's would agree with me. Those shows are for teens, you're not a teen anymore hun.
Seinfeld is the biggest selling series of all time on DVD and the show still airs at least six times a day in syndication. I personally think there were better sitcoms out there in the day, but I don't get the hasbeen talk. Considering Jerry still profits tens of millions a year from syndication for a show that ended a decade ago, it's not fair to put him in Brett Butler's league. Seinfeld is timeless, The Hills won't be remembered in three years. Remember when Laguna Beach was all the rage?
