Dr. Drew's Rehab House of Horrors: 3 Deaths and a Rape
You may want to think twice before sending your loved one to the Dr. Drew Pinksy-endorsed rehab facility, the Aurora Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, CA.
This is the facility that's oft mentioned in the VH1 reality TV series Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew. The doc is co-medical director of the chemical dependency department and is prominently featured on the hospital's website.
The LA Times reports that in April, two patients who were both being treated for drug abuse in the chemical dependency unit, died of apparent drug overdoses.
And then this month, a patient in the NASH House, which treats substance abusers on the hospital grounds, hanged himself from a wooden beam, the Los Angeles County coroner found.
One day after his body was found a 14-year-old girl was raped by a 16-year-old patient as hospital staffers and the suspect's probation officer slept nearby, according to two insiders.
So horrible!
Experts say it is rare to see so many patients at a psychiatric hospital die or be harmed in such a short period.
State health inspectors have investigated and faulted the hospital's care in the first two deaths, which occurred within two days in April.
"Not a very good track record, especially at an expensive hospital like that. I don't understand what's going on there exactly," said Taras Otus, the brother of the patient who hanged himself.
Shared rooms at the hospital cost $840 a night, while private rooms are $1,400 a night. It recently created a deluxe treatment center, offering concierge service, a "personal healthcare attendant" and access to a flat-screen high-definition TV. The hospital also advertises on its that patients have access to a tennis court, swimming pool and manicured garden.
Dr. Drew has said he played no direct role in any of the victim patients' care:
"I had no direct knowledge and no direct participation in the recent care of the patients in question. Patient confidentiality laws prevent me from discussing these or any other patients who may have been admitted to the facility."

I've always had a feeling this guy was going to be caught in some sexual crime.
There is absolutely NO reason ANY "psychiatric" facility should cost as much as most of these "resorts", except to take advantage of celebrities/individuals with $$. I understand folks would seek anonymity by going to one of these "exclusive" rip-off joints, but these days, there is no such thing as anonymity, so why not check instead into your local psych ward, where at least your whereabouts/activities would surely be more closely monitored… and you'd save yourself one helluva load o' cash.
The people who run these upscale rehab facilities NEED to be investigated more closely, obviously.

This isn't Dr Drew's, or Las Encinas' fault. Shit like this happens all the time. When people AREN'T READY to clean up, it's either jail, institutions, or death. I guarantee you the same thing happens in other re-habs, you just don't hear about it because they are not on reality TV.

Just to clarify– VH1's celebrity Rehab did NOT take place at Las Encinas. It took place at Pasadena Recovery Center, which is a very well respected institution. Just thought I would throw that out there for those seeking help… and to clarify what Perez wrote since it's not quite right…

I know this whole web page is based on sparking stories to over exaggerate them. It helps feeds our starving minds, and we can all thank The Man Perez, for that!
Usually deaths in rehabs are not uncommon. Often addicts commit suicide because of the guilt they feel once they become sober. They cannot live with the feeling of how they hurt the people in the life, how they have nothing left. No it isn't a sympathy cry, but the reality of it really sets in. The point of it is whether or not this occurs before, during, or after treatment, rehab has no more effect on their choice of committing a wrongful act. Treatment gives them an opportunity to live a sober life, it's their choice on how they want to use it. We all know you can't control addicts and you can't trust them. In my opinion, they would of done worse out on the streets or out doing the same things outside of rehab. So cheers for Dr. Drew that the number isn't higher!

It's quite obvious that the rich & famous have it a lot easier when it comes to crimes yadda yadda. I can't imagine how hard it must be to get sober for them. I'm blessed to be living a normal life. A lot of stars seem like their heads are exploded and will do what they want, when they want. If a star really wanted to get sober, they will get sober. Other then that, to them its just a few measly bucks they spent to deceive fans and friends…and to continue old habits secretly once they leave rehab.
I am horrified at your lack of professionalism and dismal fact checking. The facility where Dr. Drew shoots Celebrity Rehab is NOT Aurora-Las Encinas. In fact, the facility where the show is shot is the Pasadena Recovery Center, which has NOTHING to do with Aurora-Las Encinas. Please correct your error.
