More on the Dr. Drew Rehab Facility Scandal

We mentioned last week that Aurora Las Encinas Hospital, the Dr. Drew Pinsky-endorsed rehab facility in Pasadena, CA, is under investigation after 3 deaths and the rape of a 16-year old girl happened within weeks of one another.

Well, it looks like Dr. Drew is starting to do the distancing dance!

Prior to the scandal, the doc's photo was featured prominently on the hospital's website.

Pinksky's photo disappeared from the hospital's site on Friday, as the scandal story started to get more legs.

Pinsky told the LA Times on Thursday, "It's not my hospital," and added that he thought it was a "bizarre misconception" that people associated him with Las Encinas. He also went on to say, "we make a point of not promoting the fact . . . that we work there."

When the reporter told Pinsky he was the only physician with a photo on Las Encinas' website home page, Dr. Drew claimed said he was unaware of that.

The Pinsky bio posted on the websites for his radio show Loveline and VH1's Celebrity Rehab , however, stated:

"He is currently the Medical Director for the Department of Chemical Dependency Services at Las Encinas Hospital, a world-renowned psychiatric facility in Pasadena known for treating celebrity patients"

Very curious!

'Dr.' Pinsky can say "It's not my hospital", all he wants….but, he is accountable, also.
He represented the hospital (through the website, pamphlets/brochures and publicity). I can pretty much guarantee that he sat in on all of the major meetings (including the stockholder's meetings). He knew what was going on, and what was trying to be 'hidden' from the public.
Enough money buys all sorts of things, unfortunately. Especially, silence.

its always the same scam at hospitals… I worked at many of them in Los Angeles… "it wasnt us… we had no idea… they signed release of liability papers…". Accidents happen for sure… but THIS is a little too fishy.

While there are obviously some serious issue with the managed care in this treatment center, Cilincal Directors are so far removed from daily care that he is right it is not his direct fault. But as the Medical Director of the facility ultimatly he is responsible for hiring practices and standards of care. I hope he will at leat own up to his responsiblities in negelting his oversite of this hospital.

You need to lay off Dr Drew.
He has spent the past 15 years educating the last generation or so - he's probably helped untold millions! It's shameful that you're waging this smear campaign.
One doctor at one facility is not to blame for a rash of incidents. Try looking at the daily staff who doesn't get paid enough to lay down their lives for drug addicts who are suicidal or for aggressive sex addicts.
    You're an asshole, Perez

Leave him alone! Hes a great doctor and a great guy who helps lots of people. If you were working for a company that all of a sudden got tied up with a scandal would you want everyone pointing fingers at you too?

Re: redsonja1313Re: Novel1Re: mystomachurts – I have heard of 'Dr. Drew', but…I have never heard him speak. Be that as it may…
When a 'Doctor' endorses and speaks on behalf of a medical institution (which was founded on, and expected to have, the WELL-BEING of the patients, above all else), it is assumed that he/she/they are more concerned with the patients, than their paychecks. Unfortunately, this is not always true.
You, three, are right…'Dr. Drew' may not be the one who hired all of the medical personnel. But, can any of you honestly state that Drew has 'done the right thing' and distanced himself from the hospital, called the authorities and made reparations to the families, of the dead and assaulted victims?

  17. 17

Perez.. You're being such an asshole right now with this Dr. Drew thing. He really cares about his patient and he really makes an effort to do what he can in the community, I would suggest that you read his book Cracked, to get an inside view from Dr. Drew's perspective. He is a really smart person who has gone the distance for a lot of very sick people. I love you Perez but why are you knocking someone who made it his career to educate and heal people?

  18. 18

That is sucky, but hopefully he will come around and face the issue. He's pretty hot for an older guy, too

Re: MakeItRayn – Oh, FFS…Grow up! He knew what he was doing, and who he was protecting….and none of it included the safety of his patients!

    Unleash the lawyers!!!!!!!!!!

He should have some balls and address this shit! It would make him look like he has a heart. as for pointing fingers…I'd look a lot more closely at the DAILY staff. true, the doc's name is famous and a lot more prominent than unknown staff, but from what I've experienced, many of them are not trained properly in this area of care or just don't care about the 'kind' of people they are dealing with and the level of sensitivity they should use. A simple comment might have been the straw that broke the camel's back concerning any of the 3 deaths. There might have been signs

  22. 22

My 'time' is up, on this site…so, I would like to thank all of you for helping me, with my thesis.
I can't suggest/prescribe psychiatric help (since, I haven't received my license, yet)…but I highly recommend that most of you 'earmark funds' (if your insurance doesn't cover it) and check into the nearest facility.
    Goodbye…and, good mental health.

  23. 23

Just because he worked at the hospital doesn't mean he was in direct care of those patients.

Keep in mind the people at that hospital (I assume) have some sort of problem before they go in. Maybe addiction? Maybe depression? How many people would have died without a treatment facility available to distance themselves from their demons?

  24. 24

    Re: DIJordan – Amen

  25. 25

ummmm none of them were his patients. if you actually listen to what he says and dont assume anything you'll figure it out. and its not his hospital. he does not run the whole thing, just one part of it. duh.
