Suffering from Dementia

Margaret Thatcher's daughter reveals in a new book that her mother has been claimed by dementia.
Heartbreaking.
The former Prime Minister of the U.K. struggles to remember the simplest facts and on her worst days, struggles to finish sentences.
Thatcher's daughter also writes of how her mother keeps forgetting that husband Denis died in 2003.
"I had to keep giving her the bad news over and over again," she wrote.
"Every time it finally sank in that she had lost her husband of more than 50 years, she'd look at me sadly and say 'Oh' as I struggled to compose myself.
"'Were we all there?' she'd ask softly."
So, so sad.
The Iron Lady's daughter goes on to say, "I had always thought of her as ageless, timeless and 100 percent cast-iron damage-proof."
It's a good reminder for us all not to take for granted every moment we have with our moms and dads, right?

so true……….. and how sad !! thoughts and prayers for you and your family
So why does her daughter have to tell her that he is dead at all. She could say that he is on a trip somewhere.
Perez, I don't know how you can be so heartless and mean sometimes when you have the ability to say something so wonderful like you did in that last sentence.
So true… Thank you for remining us.
My grandmother died of Alzheimer's and it killed me to see her not remember my dad, her own son. :[ Sad stuff.
SO THE FUCK WHAT
MY HEART IS NOT BREAKING
omg poor margaret thatcher!
first?
That's so sad.
Very sad news!!
Wow, thats so sad!
My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family!
She is an extraordinary woman.
HEARTBREAKING? FUCK OFF!
THATCHER IS A CUNT AND THE WORST PRIME MINISTER WE HAVE EVER HAD SHE SINGLE HANDEDLY DESTROYED BRITAIN'S MINING INDUSTRY AS WELL AS CREATED AN ATMOSPHERE OF GREED AND SELFISHNESS IN THE 80'S, I DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR HER.
I WISH SHE'D HURRY UP AND DIE SO THAT THE BRITISH PUBLIC CAN ALL COLLECTIVELY PISS ON HER GRAVE.
GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE TO OLD RUBISH.
agreed this is soooo sad!
What else is new? The bitch always had dementia!!!
Oh!
This brought me to tears. So sad..
I couldn't agree with Uker more! That bitch personall bought in section 28, banning the 'promotion' of homosexuality inaschools. We had the worst civil riots because she insisted on bringing in the poll tax. I hope she suffers as painfully as she made us feel in the 80's! Suffer bitch!
Whenever I see her I think "Lottery Winning Denny's Waitress!"
Re: ramraideruk – YEP I SHOULD HAVE ADDED THE SECTION 28 ISSUE TOO. THANKS FOR REMING ME.
HOW MUCH DO YOU STILL FEEL SORRY FOR HER NOW PEREZ?
Re: ramraideruk –
YOU'RE MARVELOUS DARLING!
AND DO YOU THINK SHE'S A VICTIM OF MAD COW?
Margret Thatcher is what I understand an absolutely despised person in England because of what she did to the country during her years as prime minister. I don't think that many english people's hearts are breaking because of the news that "the Iron lady" is suffering from dementia. What goes around comes around….
Thank You Uker! Seriously I can see why Perez might have posted this saying its sad she has dementia, but anyone who honestly feels sympathy for this woman obviously doesn't know what she did, destroying communities in the North and countless other atrocities. So all these people saying its sad, shut up and go educate yourselves.
Dementia is such a heartbreaking disease-my sympathies go out to her family. It's like losing a loved one's spirit, but their shell is left behind.
Re: QUEEN OF THE AVATAR –
.
I hope when the old moo cow FINALLY kicks the bucket the damn networks don't pre-empt my ROSEANNE re-runs!
.
.
If you didn't agree with her policies then fair enough, but it's not funny to say things like suffer bitch.
That just makes you seem a heartless dickhead
Hardly sad.
She was an awful pm (the worst ever). My grandad has dementia also but I don't see anyone paying me to write a book about it.
I commend the daughter to make these statements while her mother is still alive (it could have been worse…she could have been like Christina Crawford, and waited until her mother (Joan) was dead, to make the abuse accusations).
But, really….was it absolutely necessary for Thatcher's daughter to even let the world know that her mother was suffering from dementia?
Thatcher's daughter is nothing more than an offspring trying to cash in on her parents' notoriety.
She needs to grow up, get a job and make her own place in the world….and, that does not include making statements/diagnosis'/prognosis', that are not hers to give and/or divulge.
Re: Neavers – I am extremely sorry about your granddad. I can't imagine what it is like to have a family member going through dementia.
But, I would hope that even if you WERE approached, to write a book, you would decline.
Re: ELL – I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO SAY WHATEVER THE FUCK I LIKE ABOUT THIS BITCH, IT'S MY COUNTRY THAT SHE FUCKED UP ROYALY, NOT YOURS.
Who cares? This old cow ran the country dismally, jacked up interest rates and everyone except the rich suffered. People lost their homes. "Maggie Thatcher, the Milk Snatcher" took free milk away from the poor children in schools.
That woman was the worst thing that ever happened to England, the country will never be the same after what she did to it, she ruined thousands of peoples lives, this is the least she deserves.
COMEDIAN BILL MAHER SAYS: THE REPUBLICANS ARE SO GAY ABOUT RONALD REAGAN–THEY EVEN NAMED AN AIRPORT AFTER HIM SO THEY COULD SAY "I'M COMING INTO REAGAN!"
Not many people are big fans of her, so…I dont think n e 1 cares.
Didn't her performance as PM and as Ronald Reagan's fawniest groupie throughout the early 80's tip anyone off that something wasn't right? She treated the US's most corrupt president since Nixon like he was a rock star. Thank you both for the privatization of the commons and the destruction of unions on two continents. Also, thanks for Grenada, Central America, the Iran-Iraq war, the rise of Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and the looming failure of Social Security in the US and the NHS in Britain.
Also, thanks, Maggie, for shielding Pinochet from prosecution for killing tens of thousands of Chilean citizens. Probably a blessing she can't remember, her policies have caused so many such pain.
"Tharcher will be buried under a man-made lake, at leat she will be when we've all finished pissing on her grave". Best quote EVER from some bloke on '8 out of 10 cats', also, on her dementia: "That's the most depressing story I've ever heard" "No, it's not, it's FUNNY 'cos it's Margaret Thatcher."
Pretty much sums up how I feel.
Re: Uker – I'm not British and I can agree that Thatcher should not be felt sorry for, she was an absolutely horrible leader who had no true compassion for the British people.
welcome to my world.
my dad lives with me and has dementia tht was precipitated by a stroke.
I have a blog about it dementiadiary dot com.
There is joy and there is frustration.
You love them - you do what you must.
I find it comforting to know that I'm not alone as a caregiver, and that the disease plays no favorites - from prime minister to pauper.
Re: ELL –
I could not disagree more. For what she made me suffer , being English and gay, she deserves it. It's Karma. Maybe it will make her forget all the pain she caused Britain in the 80's. Well, I haven't! Unless you were there, you have no idea what misery she caused with the UK.
Re: QUEEN OF THE AVATAR –
Victim - pah! She was the original mad cow. Do you remember her on spiting image. I think that they got her right. She was quite mysoginistic too. She had one female MP in her cabinet - ever and soon got rid of her.
And, while we are remembering the 80's, do you remember the British Government's reaction to AIDS? How shit was it? They were so disgusted by it that they almost ignored it. They then put out the most ridiculous adverts that wouldn't mention how or why HIV was transmitted. Do you remember them talking about 'Rectal sex'? She made homophobia acceptable. The gay community was compltely vilified and it was made to acceptable. We were constantly being compared to paedophiles.
She then sold off all our state assets, via privatisation. The woman was evil. I don't care what you think of me, this is my honest view of her.
I wonder if she's forgotten the havoc she wrought in the UK during her regime.
Maggie was and still is an amazing woman. Thanks to her and John Major the hand over of power to Blair in 1997 was the first time the conservatives have handed ove power without a deficit. What did Gordin Brown and Nu Labour do with that?? Oh yeah allowed us to head towards a recession, nice work Gordo!
She refused to let the bully boys of the unions push her around or let herself be ruled by the men in her government.
Wishing her the best!
Re: herbieblog – After reading through most of your website…I can't proclaim the awe, that I feel for you, adequately enough. You, and your husband (who is suffering enough, on his own), are worthy of sainthood.
Unfortunately, I just don't feel the same for my family. I was sexually, emotionally and physically abused…for as long as I can remember (and, I am 43yo). I was raped, forced to stand in a corner (for HOURS on end, which caused shin plints), FORCED to undergo abortions (at least one, was a 6 month abortion), beaten with metal dog leashes, and 'trussed up' and submerged in the bathtub (to the point where I almost drowned), just to name a few instances. AND, MY MOTHER, AND SIBLINGS KNEW WHAT WAS HAPPENING.
Do I ask for sympathy? No, absolutely not….it is MY cross to bear. I don't mean to demean your experiences, whatsoever. I am just saying that there are worse 'family experiences', than dementia.
well, i think she is getting what she deserves. she was terrible for england and the world, laying off tens of thousands of workers and failing privatizing the estate owned train and mining companies, and going to a war against my country over a couple of islands they invaded with pirates in the 1800`s. she is part of the cast of horrible people that lived through the 80´s like ronald reagan, castro, gorbachov, hussein, kohemeni, people that had nothing but despair for world peace. she was not a nice person, is karma coming back to her. I will probably get my share for what I am saying, but my thoughts are with the millions of people in the world she helped made miserable, like apartheid victims in her supported southafrica.
How tragic, hope she graduates soon. I agree with Alan, just say her husband went somewhere.
Life is death and death is life,we just have it backwards.
Maybe Lady Thatcher is better of this way. At least she doesn't have to see the crap hole that England is becoming as the stink pig mooslims invade.
perez!
how dare you stick up and feel sorry for her!
you do not know what happened to this country while she was in charge!
i hope that she dies soon and does not have a state funeral because even fucking gary glitter deserves one before her!
Perez, thank you for taking the high road by writing something nice about a conservative and not trashing her. We revere Maggie like we do Reagan and are deeply saddened by this news.
Hats off to you!
you're preaching to the choir man. we need to cherish all our time with our parents bc b4 we know it we're all grown up and they might not be here in the morning.
Maggie has dementia? How could they tell?
maybe if maggie does die carol will be off our backs for a while!
arrghh cant stand her stupid voice on the one show lol
xo
That SUCKS!!
I Hate that a Great Lady & a great Leader has been reduced to This!!
My Heart goes out the Family!!
do you actually know who she was? she was pure evil and most of england depise her. you confuse me perez!
Re: Uker – My dear Uker, have you forgotten that Ms. Thatcher went to war and humiliated Argentina over the Falkland Islands ? The Falklands belong to Argentina, no matter who won the bloody war. But that is all that is left of the British Empire and Thatcher wanted to keep her illusions. I will not cry for her like I cried for Evita Peron. The Falkland Island belong to Argentina !!!!!!!!!
It's a horrible illness but feeling sorry for her is crazy!! She was a terrible awful bitch. Maybe her daughter should remind her of 1971 Internment?
Re: DIJordan – not to be rude or attempt to knock you, but you somewhat are asking for sympathy by posting all of that here. it doesn't really have anything to do with it
Re: franmex –
How the hell can you compare Maggie with those cunts Khomeni and Hussein?
Would you rather live in England under Thatcher (Where the leader is elected and has checks on their power) or Iran under Khomeni or Iraq under Hussein(Where an autocratic dictatorship rules with no check on their powes and use fear and intimidation to control the population?)
I don't mind people criticising Thatcher but please lets keep perspective.
As for the Falklands she defended them from Military Dictator General Galtieti and thanks to his defeat at the hands of Maggie he was deposed and Democracy started to return to Argentina.
Evil fucking bitch its only a shame the IRA never got her!
Re: Uker – Woman after my own heart - well said!!!
Re: Uker –
I concur, the people here claiming this as sad are obviously not British - even the most liberal and forgiving of my friends and peers want 'the iron lady' to melt.
Gee, that is so heartbreaking! I wish her the best.
Re: lesstrendythanwarhol – No, I was not asking for sympathy…nor, would I accept any (it is MY cross to bear, and no one else's). My whole reason, in stating what I did, was to point out that every family has problems….insecurities, abuse (to some extent) and 'skeletons in the closet'…and, it is NOT necessary to demean a close relative and loved one to 'cash in on those problems'.
I was trying to state, in my previous comment, that I had far more to disclose, thereby discrediting my family, than what Ms. Thatcher's daughter had (regarding her mothers dementia), …but, I would never do so.
I should have been more succinct. I apologize.
Re: DIJordan – i understand what you're saying and agree completely about cashing in, it just struck me as strange the way you went about making your point
Re: lesstrendythanwarhol – I can understand why you would think it strange, but, alas…I can't go back and delete or edit my initial comment. If I could, I would.
Re: KazIreland –
Couldnt agree more
UH?!?!
Do you even know who Margaret Thatcher is?!? And what she did to her people??
Are you all that stupid to just read someone is suffering, ok yeah horrible and reply oh, poor thing..
Would you be saying that sort of shit about Hitlers dad? Or any other fascist leader's parent? I'm not from the UK but jesus fucking christ she was a psychotic bitch and I'm all for power to the ladies but this chick was an evil cunt. READ A GODAMN HISTORY BOOK PEOPLE OR AT LEAST WIKI HISTORY OR SOME SHIT.
Re: KazIreland – I am 100% Irish. You do NOT do the IRA service by your beliefs and proclamations, on a public website.
Same thing happened to her butt-boy Ronnie Reagan.
Re: Uker – I really hope you suffer the SAME FATE as Thatcher! I really do! It's Karma bitch! It will catch up to you! How sad of you to say that, it really is….. She was a good Woman! I hope you do suffer the same fate, and enjoy it with all your family and worries, and grief! Then you can shout hate at it all, you Blatant Fool that you are!
Re: david-0-selznick – Reagan was alzheimer's you numb nut! Different disease, but I guess you don't read or learn anything either! I'm guessing you're gonna vote for Obamma NoMamma too! God this country is so sad!
She is responsible, like Ronald Regan, for so much evil and so much heartache in this world. Can you say "Karma?"
Re: jace – actually, same disease.
Re: londonista – No, Alzheimer's is a TYPE of dementia….it doesn't define it. Do some research….you may be surprised.
three words "Karma's a BITCH" stupid cow responsible for thousands of death and also enjoyed taking freedoms from people in countries she had no fucking right to go near. sucks to be her
I agree that it's very sad; however, I have to admit when I first saw this picture I thought it was John Edwards wife!!
This is a wonderful woman right here..she helped create soft-serve ice cream
This breaks my heart, my mother was diagnosed with alzheimer's 2 weeks ago and she is only 60!!!!. I know it she will just get worse from now. My prayers are with the family.
as prime minister didnt she have dementia also fav politicians word i cannot recall …
but ok seriously a great lady like this deserves to go out with dignity why is her daughter broadcasting her private business …
Thatcher and Reagan destroyed the Communist run Soviet Union. With out these two great people millions of more Russians would have died because of Communism. It is hilarious watching the left wing morons claim that Reagan and Thatcher had nothing to do with the fall of the Soviet Union. Pathetic uneducated morons! ROTFLMAO!
I am an american, and I don't know of the bad things that she did, however saying curel things about people only show how bad you really are. Karma is a bad thing at times. Perhaps you should pray for her and your country. That might help more than trashing someone who is sick, no matter the mistakes that they mad, or how bad they were. Make yourself a better person. This just puts you on her level. Be better.
Re: DIJordan – You're absolutely right there are worse things than dementia - I don't even want to reread your post it was so horrifying to think you went through that. I hope you've found help and support…you communicate like you've adjusted …of course only you know what goes on on the inside. It does help to share and know that you're not alone - there is some comfort! All the best to you.
HAHA. Fascist
Dementia is horrible and very much like alzheimers. I, personally, wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. It's the caregivers who suffer as well. My mom died in 2002 because of alzheimers. To see someone you love forget everything that was once important in their lives. I pray that her daughter has the strength to get through this.
