Harry Potter Lawyers Are Out for Blood
No one messes with the golden goose!
Harry Potter's movie studio, Warner Bros., is suing an Indian studio over a film whose title it believes is too close to that of its hugely profitable Harry Potter flicks.
The Indian company, Mirchi Movies, is set to release its film Hari Puttar - A Comedy of Terrors on September 12 in Asia, but a lawsuit just filed by the WB could see it yanked!
Interesting note - the Indian film doesn't have wizards or magic in it at all! Hari Puttar is about a 10-year-old boy who moves to Britain and manages to save his father's top secret computer chip from some burglars.
Is Hari Puttar a common Indian name?
Mirchi Movies' COO said, "We registered the Hari Puttar title in 2005, and it's unfortunate that Warner has chosen to file a case so close to our film's release. In my opinion, I don't think our title has any similarity or links with Harry Potter."
Yeah…why did the WB wait so long to act?
This is what a WB mouthpiece said about the matter:
"We have recently commenced proceedings against parties involved in the production and distribution of a movie entitled Hari Puttar. Warner Bros values and protects intellectual property rights. However, it is our policy not to discuss publicly the details of any ongoing litigation."
The case is due to hit the Bombay high court today, August 25.
We wonder who'll win…the big, bad international movie studio or the smaller Indian film house?

Hari Puttur just means Hari boy. Puttur means son, as in a little boy whom your close to. Hari is definately an indian/punjabi name. The name is just a coincidence, and WB shouldnt be such dicks to sue Mirchi Movies.
First of all, the name Hari is very common south Asian name and so far i understand the term "puttar" is a son. When you pronounce "Harry" and "Hari",it is totally different.

But why would anyone this side of Poland Care? I mean it's not like it's going to be as big as the Dark Knight here in the states or anything… so if they want to prove how unoriginal they are let them make their remakes and leave the better movies for the big boys..
(I dont have anything against the Asian/Indian Culture btw) They manage to make some really beautiful movies in Bollywood… but still.

Ahahaha Bollywood is always getting sued for copying Hollywood, like when they did a remake of Hitch. This is just stupid though, if anything this movie is more a copy of Home Alone from the looks of it.

The people who should really sue are the writers and producers of "Home Alone'. This Bollywood film stole almost the entire plot of Home Alone.
This reminds me of Home Alone. But then again, it's VERY common that producers of Indian movies/tv-shows and music videos directly copy from the West.
I lived in India for three years, and we were often amazed by how much they got away with without any lawsuits. It's the industry culture.
