NBC's Olympic Coverage = Homophobic?

NBC's got some explaining to do!
We cheered when Australia's Matthew Mitcham, the only openly male gay athlete who competed at the Beijing Games, scored Olympic gold.
However, we're jeering at NBC because - unlike their coverage of hetero athletes' relationships - the network never mentioned the Aussie's boyfriend/longtime parter during their coverage of the Mitcham story.
NBC did not mention Mitcham’s orientation, nor did they show his family and partner who were in the stands. NBC has made athletes’ significant others a part of the coverage in the past, choosing to spotlight track athlete Sanya Richards’ fiancee, a love triangle between French and Italian swimmers and Kerri Walsh’s wedding ring debacle.
What's up with that, NBC?

Or maybe for once NBC decided that an athlete's personal life is entirely irrelevant to the sport in which he competes. I don't give a damn if he's gay, straight, bi, into livestock or whatever. It has no effect on his performance as an athlete, so why is it important?

I only saw his "fans" in the stands one time. They were all wearing yellow wigs, or brightly colored shirts and glasses. NBC sounds a little homophobic to me! I saw plenty of backstories on the chinese athletes, french, and even a bulgarian chick.
The Olympics is not a platform to be used to support homosexuality you stupid idiot. I'm glad they didn't show it plus what about all of the straight gold medal winners they didn't show, he better be glad they at least showed his sorry pathetic ass.

I watched a good deal of the diving events. Someone coorect me if I'm wrong, but weren't every single one of the male divers gay? I watched the diving….they did mention his family & friends and showed tem in the stands…they didn't say "his partner so and so" they just said, "his family & friends" I believe his partner had on a brown t-shirt.
They probably didn't go into detail because it should not be a HIGH LIGHT! If we - you - want homosexuality to be an accepted, normal, everyday thing then it should be treated as such. So what if he's gay…move on!
Don't be lame, Perez. NBC was the same channel that ran Will & Grace for eight seasons. That was a gay show. I think that if they don't have to say that Michael Phelps is straight, why should they have to say that this guy is gay? Also, he's Australian. They probably weren't paying attention to Australia.

Secondly …. I know that every country covers there own athletes and gives them preference, as well as highlights performance's of Athletes from around the world. NBC has been known in past years to only showcase there own Athletes, which I am afaid is the same case here again. Weather or not it had anything to do with the guy's sexual prefernce or relationship's I guess one will never know. But it still doesn't look good on the Peacock's big wigs to not include a broader more world inclusive coverage. Ironicly there was an article about British and there out of control ways internationaly. Americans have the same world view…. Not that I don't like Americans, but lets be honest most other country's in the world if you aksed what country they hated the most USA is going to be leading the pack, maybe you don't belive this and I am sorry to be the one who has to tell you but THE WORLD DISLIKE"S USA. So if NBC did only show what they wanted to show and the country tunes in in record numbes watching then they must have done something right eh? Maybe we should look at the bigger picture as to what is wrong with USA!!
