It looks like Michael Phelps isn't the only one in the family who'll be walking away with an endorsement deal post-Olympics.
The Golden Boy's mom, Debbie, mentioned that she packed her suitcase full of clothes from Chico's for her trip to Beijing.
Lo and behold the clothier got all sorts of excited!
Their web site now showcases “The Debbie Phelps Collection,” an assortment of her travel pieces, including the outfit she wore for a Johnson & Johnson commercial that debuted Sunday night during the closing ceremonies.
And, according to a Chico's mouthpiece, "talks" are "under way" with her management team about potential collaborations.

I think that it is ridiculous. If ANYTHING, she paid for her sons swimming lessons (which I doubt that she did, since she was a single mom, so she probably received public assistance, of some kind).
Her son did ALL of the training and work….why should she receive any of the benefits?!

i think this is awesome. she seems like such a wonderful woman, mother, as well as an educator. i think she appeals to lots of women, and would be a great spokesperson or face for a company.

Re: OBAMA 08 – No, I have to respectfully disagree with you. It is the parents' job to raise, clothe, feed and educate their children…regardless, if they are a single parent or not.
The children are not required to 'pay back' the parents with money, social status, or by letting them ride on the 'shirttails' of their famous offspring.
As long as the kids are law-abiding, respectful, ethical, moral and can survive on their own, Ms. Phelps did what she was supposed to do…and, she shouldn't ask for anything more.

I find it very interesting how Chico's chooses Debbie Phelps to "represent" the company. When I worked for them an African American woman won the big Powerball lottery and shopped in my store A LOT —she was featured on a Bravo lottery winners reality show and wanted part of her portion filmed shopping in her favorite store. Chico's turned her down, because they felt that she didn't "represent" their image. They could not tell her this because they feared a lawsuit, so they made up a story about not wanting the inside of the store filmed.
They are racist and they have poor ethics. There clothes are made for pennies on the dollar in 3rd world countries and very few are made in the United States.
Phelps is a larger woman, which they definitely sell to, but do not promote. I am surprised they are even "using" her. They will offer her free clothes to wear in public appearances, but I see nothing more in it for her.
Debbie being sweet is not the issue and deserving of her good fortune is a bad argument. I think she's an opportunist, fame whore, and a money whore ! Why would the mother want to ride on her son's coat tails of fame? Because she's a money grubbing, milking it for all that it's worth whore !

I love my child, more than anything in the world. It is MY responsibility to teach him ethics, morals, honesty and satisfaction of hard work. If my child achieves those goals, THAT would be my 'pay', so to speak.
I would be utterly ashamed to cash in on his success, just because I raised him alone (which was forced on me, when his father, my husband died).
If I EVER try to benefit from my kids notoriety and success…I hope that someone puts a bullet through my head. Because that would mean that I am entering dementia/senility…and, I wouldn't want to live through that, anyway.
