Suing, American Style

A few Germans are out to get Tom Cruise 'American style' in the courtroom.
Eleven extras on the set of Tommy's Nazi-era flick, Rubicon (formerly known as Valkyrie), fell from the bed of a production truck during filming.
And, now, one of the extras has hired a lawyer to sue the film and said he wants to be paid damages — American-style damages.
The extra claims he knows other injured extras and that together they were entitled to millions in damages.
Tommy boy wasn't on set the day the 'accident' happened.
The extra's lawyer has placed ads searching for other victims on a special website to bolster their case. The lawyer says her clients have told her about other accidents involving extras, adding that her "main aim is to push for better safety standards on filmsets in Germany." The situation on filmsets is inhumane, with bruises, sprains and lacerations the order of the day, the lawyer claims.
German authorities said there hadn't been significant safety problems on the set, citing testimony from other extras, and that the accident had been caused because the extras failed to properly shut the truck's tailgate.
The extra's attorney says they've found other witnesses who are prepared to testify "that everyone on the set knew that the vehicles were in terrible shape."
We feel bad for the German lawyer. Hollywood lawyers are ruthless!
But, they'll probably end up settling!

But if you've noticed, there are many other celebrities that Perez doesn't talk about on here due to legal issues. I guess he's made it hard for him self on some levels, cuz these celebrities' lawyers have made sure to put him in check.
I hope they have more then "everyone knew the vehicles were in terrible shape" to go on. Otherwise they are wasting their time and money pursuing this.

Normally I would agree with Slide2Stop, but the thing is, film sets are much more loosely monitored than they should be. Practically every set has serious injuries and very often a fatality and yes, some of them are unavoidable accidents, but very often there is a lack of preparation or supervision which violates OFSHA. I can see the suit having success, but if the primary goal of improving safety creates changes I think most film fans would be happy. Being an extra is hard, hours and hours of sometimes very uncomfortable conditions, not great food, low pay. Yes, many of them should get another job, but some are trying to get up enough hours to go in the union, some are simply really in need of some money, and lack the training to do much, so I have great sympathy for them. The kind of people who do it "for a lark" usually don't last, they go once and see how lousy it is.
