It's war!
Horror novelist Clive Barker is very unhappy with Hollywood studio Lionsgate.
According to the novelist, the studio effed over a film remake of one of his books so the studio's president Joe Drake could pump up his own ego films.
Yikes! That's some claim!
The Midnight Meat Train, the flick inspired by the Barker book of the same name, was pushed from a release of May 16th to August 1st and was only released at 102 second-run and dollar theaters across the land.
Ouch!
Despite the super limited release, several screenings were viewed by sold-out audiences.
Barker says:
He is “very proud that the movie is surviving the nonsense. People are getting to see the movie. It’s sort of starting to have a cult life.” He’s less positive in his feelings for Drake, calling him “small-minded” and a “nobody.”
“There’s room for everything. You don’t have to sh– on somebody else’s work to advance your own material..director Ryuhei Kitamura “made a f—ing great movie, and the politics that are being visited upon it have nothing to do with the movie at all. This is all about ego, and though I mourn the fact that ‘Midnight Meat Train’ was never given its chance in theaters, it’s a beautifully stylish, scary movie, and it isn’t going anywhere. People will find it, and whether they find it in midnight shows or they find it on DVD, they’ll find it, and in the end the Joe Drakes of the world will disappear.”
A spokesperson for Lionsgate declined to comment.

P.S. Lionsgate has been ironing out the tough details as well and will premiere (if I remember correctly) in a select few major cities.

I so want to see this movie. Vinnie Jones plays the killer and Vinnie Jones is killer. Even the scottish and ginger, Tony Curran has a bit part in it.
I met Barker when he was promoting the video release of Nightbreed. He was pissed about how the film was promoted, and made the point that the stars of the film were the creatures, not whatever the perception was that the film was about. He was a nice guy.
This movie rocks! It's so sad, litteraly DAYS before the release, Lions Gate would NOT even tell Clive Barker, nor Jeff Buhler, who wrote the screen play, just what theatres were playing it. LG would NOT even tell them the theatres for Southern California. I have a feeling they will have a quick dvd release, right around THIS HALLOWEEN and release it also with VERY little promotion. The new head of LG wants to trash EVERY film the former head green lit. The former head also co-produced MMT. The former head also brought the SAW franchinse to the studio, and green lit SAW 5. Let's see if SAW 5 gets the same treatment, or since its part 5, they might actually release it wide. However MMT is a much great piece of work and film than SAW 5 probably will be!
Lionsgate, The worst employer I ever had. Clive got in a fist fight over this film with the President. Just a common issue of business men running(ruining) creative endeavors. The new guy is an asshole. Clive will persevere.

Re: Jitters – the film had its premiere here in Montreal, at the Fantasia Film Festival last July. Sold out shows, 900 people for each screening. Great film.
Barker is amazing writer, his books are awesome and each and every book would make films that are mind blowing…so where do i see MMT????
a few months ago the trailer came on for this movie…as soon as the title of the movie was announced literally everyone in the theatre started cracking up.
bradley cooper is hot in this movie!!
