NBC Apologizes for Mitcham Snub

mattmitcham__opt1.jpg

NBC has responded to complaints and claims that its Olympics coverage was tinged with some homophobia.

The net's Olympics President, Gary Zenkel, issued an apology for the NBC reporting team's failure to mention on air that gold-medal diver Matthew Mitcham is gay and has a partner, who was there rooting him on. That's in stark contrast to the Peacock nets coverage of straight athletes an their partner.

Says the NBC rep:

“We regret that we missed the opportunity to tell Matthew Mitcham’s story. We apologize for this unintentional omission.”

Sorry is not good enough!

NBC should also make a promise to be more inclusive when the next Olympic games - the Winter games - roll around.

That would be a positive step!

PunktyBrewstein - You're obviously a closet GAY - or you've had your heart broken by a GAY! If you truly hated GAY's you'd never want to look on a openly gay guys website. I think once you come out of the closet you'll be a lot happier.

????????WTF has his sexuality got to do with his swimming ,and why does NBC need to advertise his preferences FFS. Do grow up, and get over the "gay complex". Jeez I have read some pathetic crap things in life but this surely takes the biscuit.

Who gives a shit? I wish they hadn't done profile pieces on ANYONE, including Phelps! I remember way way way back in the day, when they televised the Olympics nearly 24 hours a day, and they just showed…sports. I couldn't give a fuck if he and the entire gymnastics team are in a daisy chain in the olympic village. WHO GIVES A FUCK!!!!!

OMG Nothing against Gays but, but guys get over it!!!! I can not believe the world has turned to this where people get offended because there is not a special story about an athlet from another country!!!!!!!

    7. 107

So what? They apologized to who? Did they put it on the news that they apologized? No, so bascially they got what they wanted. They didn't show that he was gay and then they issued an apology that nobody knows about. How stupid do they think we are? It wasn't "Unintentional" Seeing as how it was news all over that this swimmer was asking for help to get his boyfriend tickets to the Olympics since they weren't supplied to gay people NBC can in no way pretend they weren't aware of the situation.

To that biggotedabuser aka punkybrewnstein: your comments on homosexuals are not only biggoted, arrogantly and crudely expressed and disgustingly defamatory but they also reflect your own insecurites and overall small minded conception of the 'real world'. Quite frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn, but do you have a human conscience?! (That was rhetorical by the way.)

      EQUALITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"So, hows his swimming?" "I dunno but he likes to fuck dudes!" - Grow up.

He's an olympic diver. And while that is an incredible accomplishment, unfortunately, no one really cares about olympic divers in this country (and that sucks). No one talked about any of the straight divers' partners, so why should the gay divers get special attention??? They shouldn't. Gay, straight, does it matter? They should not get special attention either way. They are incredible at what they do and that's why they should be lauded. This is not a gay/straight issue. Don't make it out to be.

ya and it's not like the announcer is going to say "he swam this fast and blahblah oh by the way He is gay and here is his boyfriend."
