Former American Idol winner Ruben Studdard is in trouble with the law.
Specifically the IRS.
According to court records, the season two winner has failed to pay almost $200,000 in state and federal taxes.
Turns out he owes $171,920 in unpaid federal income taxes and $21,730 in state income taxes, with the majority of the unpaid taxes coming for 2003 when he won American Idol.
You'd think after winning his $1 million contract on AI, he would have hired a good accountant!!!!!
And he has to have money still, or has he gone broke?
Back in 2006, Studdard sued his former business manager after he claims the manager misappropriated funds between 2003 and 2004.
Studdard was awarded $500,000 in actual losses and an extra $1.5 million in punitive damages.
Ruben is currently without a record deal after J Records dropped him last year.
So what's a former AI contestant to do?
It's off to Broadway, sort of.
Starting this November, he'll star in the touring production of the Broadway show Ain't Misbehavin.
Joining him will be former AI contestants Frenchie Davis and Trenyce.

Sorry, Ruben. Gotta pay those taxes, babe. No getting around it. He should have done a better job looking after his finances. The world is full of vultures looking to prey on young inexperienced artists and the artists are too quick to be trusting with people and careless with cash.
I just don't feel sorry for these people. It's not that difficult to set aside funds for taxes, utilities, incidentals and 'rainy days'. Judging by the size of him, I am guessing that he doesn't 'scrimp and save' on his grocery bills, though.

The rest of you, Americans, should be upset by his complacency, though. Who do you think pays for the bills, that these wealthier people don't? WE DO! That's right….for every bankruptcy, non-payment and partial payment, that the credit card companies, utilities and IRS receives…they will tack the interest and non-payments onto the rest of us, just so that they can keep themselves in business!
For crying out loud….it's a 'domino effect'. It's not fair to the rest of us who pay their bills on time, and who try to live honestly and right.

I am a widow, with a teen-aged son, my home and vehicle are owned outright, I have no credit card debts, whatsoever, my bills are paid on time and in full each month, we are not drug/alcohol abusers, the ONLY time that I go to the doctor is when I am 'deathly ill' (the last time, that I went to the doc/hospital was back in December, when I was diagnosed with Bronchitis and an ear infection…which totally screwed up my Christmas. And, the time before that was when I was scheduled for a C-Section, 13 years ago! And that ended up costing me over $300 for 5 minutes of the Dr.'s time)…but, do you think that it would be easy to get health insurance? Fuck no.
I was paying $300 PER MONTH for my sons ADD meds (which I was forced to pay for about 2 years), until state funded insurance became available. Even then, I had to switch to the generic form of Adderall (at $25 per month) from the MUCH BETTER Adderall XL (which was only reduced to $250 per month).
Make no mistake….I would rather have my child get insurance. But, I don't understand why I should be penalized for making and receiving too much, and paying less, by way of taxes, than any other citizen.
That's is crazy considering that there are no laws at all to date in our government that say we have to pay taxes. People just do and if you don't you get into trouble. zeitgeist movie… All the tax stuff is bullshit.
I wonder if the new wife new about this before the wedding?
