The Grateful Dead have been touring on and off as first "The Other Ones" and later as "The Grateful Dead" since 2003.
They also ran a very successful tour - "The Further Festival" where they took turns playing with other guests.
This is nothing new for them…. so Jerry is fine.

The Grateful Dead have always been Democratic Party supporters and have performed countless times in the last 13 years since Jerry Garcia's death under various band names including The Dead and The Other Ones. This isn't blasphemous or offensive at all, esp. to Deadheads all over. Furthermore, the Dave Matthews Band opened up the DNC without LeRoi Moore who passed away just last week and they're sticking with their name. I think it's great. yay Obama.

as many have said, the Dead have been touring for many years since Jerry died! There is a large movement called DEADHEADS FOR OBAMA and back in the spring The Dead played a show in support of Obama. In fact, Barack Obama sent a video message to the fans at the show thanking them for his support. Perez you are really late on this one!

Blasphemous is not the right word. AMAZING, AWESOME, FANTASTIC, PHENOMINAL, GRATE would be more along the right lines. I've seen Bobby and RatDog 7 times in the past 2 years. (Amazing by the way…. ) and Warren Haynes in the 3 times in the past 1 year…, if anything, JERRY would be rejoicing, -dancing if you may- in his grave, knowing that the boys are still keeping it alive, especially for someone like OBAMA who will be so important and special to this country. This country deserves the best, and Jerry would agree that the best for this country right now is OBAMA.

do your research - the Dead never stopped playing. i have been to several Dead concerts in the past several years since Jerry's death.
The dead lost their first original member in 1972. Keyboardist Ron "Pigpen" McKernen.
They have also been touring on and off under The Other Ones and The Dead since Jerry's death.
I for one am excited for this. I'll be there…
All the Dead concerts I've been to were some of the best time of my life!
Re: sugaree – The Dead died when Pigpen died. They were never the same. The last interesting thing they did was the Watkins Glen Sound Check in July of '73. Everything since was just fluff. Now, they are nothing but shills and a joke.
The Dead never really broke up and have been doing several tours over the years without Jerry. And honestly, he wasn't that good. He was just a figurehead for a bunch of stoners that don't know how to keep a song short and simple. Micky Heart is the only one in that band that is interesting. Besides you have to be stoned out of your gord to tolerate it with or without Jerry.

Oh man I hope this show is in Philly ! I have been to probably 20-30 dead shows over the years and if you get it, you understand and if you don't well the scene seems very foreign and weird . Jambands aren't for everyone and in fact my least favorite time for the dead was the years that followed "Touch of Grey" the deads only bonafide "Hit" . the crowd changed to include the popular kids, you know, jocks and cheerleaders that thought they could put on a tie-dye and become a hippie for just one night and then Brent died and then Jerry and it has not been the same . I was fortunate to be there in the early 80's and see the circus that is the Grateful Dead ! Go Obama !
