Dave on Jay

David Letterman and Jay Leno may be 'rivals' but there is not animosity between the two - at least not from Letterman's side.
Back in the day, everyone thought that Dave was going to take over Johnny Carson's spot as host of the Tonight Show in '93, but instead NBC gave the job to Jay Leno! Dave went on to secure his spot on CBS and thereafter established one of thr biggest rivalries on TV.
Anyway, both funny men were 'screwed' by NBC!
In a new Rolling Stone interview Letterman reveals that he empathizes with Leno's 'forced' retirement from the Tonight Show.
In support of Leno, Dave goes on to say:
“Unless I’m misunderstanding something, I don’t know why, after the job Jay has done for them, why they would relinquish that. I guess they thought it was a less messy way to handle what happened to me at NBC. I don’t know.”
Dave also graciously acknowledges and accepts his long held #2 spot to top dog Jay:
“I wish that we — and when I say ‘we’ I mean ‘me’ — I wish I could have prevailed. I think he has greater appeal for more people than I do.”
Letterman also says that he hasn't given much thought about possibly beating the Tonight Show when Conan O'Brien takes the reigns because he still can't believe Jay won't be there.
Poor Jimmy Kimmel. He always gets left out of the Late Night power talks!
Why isn't he thought of as relevant????

i never really saw the intrigue in leno, i just know that dave has got to be one of the coolest funniest cats i've ever had the privilege to enjoy. i hope he never gets forced to retire or else i'd boycott tv altogether.
As great as Conan is, nobody holds a candle to Letterman. There's nobody who can recover from a joke that's bombed or a make something out of an awful interview like Letterman can. I think the reason why he's so good at what he does is because he understands just how absurd the culture of celebrity is. There won't be another Dave Letterman.

I just came back after a few days of leaving to see if andyaber and all of his friends left yet. I see they have not.
It is soooooo nice to know, though, that there are other people here who have value's, self-respect (I supect this is what he may be missing) and class.
And you are right all he ever does is repeat the same words and lines constantly, he is very limited in his vocabulary.

After writing on a previous post about andyaber and his friends, I said they lacked self-respect, and then I started thinking that this person is to be pitied.
What a horrible childhood he must have had, his parents probably beat him sensless, and most likely there was abuse of other kinds. Someone so pathetic had to have had an horrible life, so I will try my hardest to just not read his comments or to not comment on them myself, I do not want to add to this troubled young mans woes, lest he moves on to something worse. You now have my sympathy instead of my scorn.

David Letterman was never very funny to me because he came across as mean spirited. He mocked people- celebrities aren't all very bright, and he made fun of them. They wouldn't even know it. It was too much. He also hasn't legitimated his son- out of greed for fear he'd have to share anything with the child's mother. Don't know why SHE stayed. Almost anyone can make fun of someone as a not nice joke. That is Letterman's act.
I know perez! I love jimmy,uncle frank, Guillermo and Beatrice. They are so damn funny. I guess because Jimmy hasn't been around for as long as the other guys.
I love Dave, Jay and Conan - tape one while watching the other.
If not for them, I would hardly watch TV - fucken realty show bullshit.
Ironic that the Disney Channel is one of the few networks that realizes how a couple good situation comedies can be very popular and make tons of money.

Letterman is the smarter, classier, wittier of the two. Jay is more low-brow humour, and Kimmel has none of the intelligence Letterman has, nor any of the charisma Leno has. That's why he rightly gets left out.
I won't miss Leno. Every rabid Republican asshole tunes in every night for his bias remarks. Jay Go home and stay there… NEXT
