Owner hears cat in distress after driving 2 1/2-hours for a business meeting
GILBERT, Ariz. - A cat survived a 2 1/2-hour trip on a spare tire under her owner's truck.
Gil Smith recently drove from his Gilbert home 70 miles away for a business meeting in Kearny. When he got out of the truck, he heard a cat in distress and realized it was his.
Smith said the cat, Bella, was hysterical, shaky and tired, but was smart enough to know not to jump off the tire as the truck was moving.
Smith and his wife have adopted three indoor cats, three goats and three chickens. But Smith said Bella, an outdoor cat the couple adopted years ago, has a special place in his wife's heart.
Smith said he canceled his meeting with a state Department of Economic Security official who had driven 50 miles to get to Kearny so he could get Bella home.
It was either that, or, he jokes, get a divorce.

Wow what a great story! And what a great guy! So nice of his wife & him to adopt those animals in need. And it was so sweet that he put his wife's loved cat before his job. How can I get a guy like this?

This is exactly what happened last week at my work. I work at a car dealership and a guy had driven about 3 hours from the coast of BC to Kamloops where i live and then discovered that his cat was in the spare tire so all our mechanics were working to get him out!

Re: Andy27 – You are positively cold-hearted. I have had just about every type of pet, imaginable, while growing up (and, even some that would never be considered as pets)…and, cats were among them. I contracted toxoplasmosis, about 20 years ago, from a stray cat that we saved from the streets. That toxo- is slowly, but surely, destroying my left eye (it can't be cured)…but, what did I do? I went and adopted 2 more kittens a few years ago….I couldn't help it, my son and I love animals.
If anyone has a reason to hate cats, it would be someone like me, who contracted a very dangerous disease (the toxoplasmosis can enter the brain, and kill)…but, I refuse to let that stop me from sharing the love that I have for animals.
I would love to know why you HATE a creature that doesn't talk back, cleans up their own bodies (without being told to, repeatedly), doesn't raid the refrigerator or pantry, and only costs as much as you are willing to spend for VET and food bills (I spent more on my child, at ONE orthodontist visit, than I EVER spent for my cats in 3 years…and, I had THEM spayed/neutered, declawed and vaccinated).

Re: Anonymous – No offense meant to you. I really do not "hate" cats. In fact, I hate no creature on earth — human or animal. Perhaps I was too graphic or too morbid with my selection of words. I know what it's like to love an animal, therefore I wouldn't wish it any harm. Trust me, I'm not as cold-hearted or sick as I come across in my words, at times. It's just my OPINION that they're nonresponsive pets and don't show the type of love/affection a dog does towards his owner. Not saying all cats, but typically that is the case. And please know that I would never, ever harm a cat. I admire your decision to adopt cats despite your condition.

I thought they were boring, cold and had NO personality…until I apoted one 3 years ago and a month after that adopted my 2nd. Boy, was I wrong. My girl acts sorta like a typical cat, but she cracks me up. My boy is nuts. He is a dog trapped in cat's body. He loves to go for walks, loves car rides, loves PetsMart, gets in the shower with me. They both love warm baths. They have total oppsite personalities - they are my joy. And, I must say, after having dogs my life - CATS ARE SIMPLE!!! They don't need taken outside in the rain to pee, they clean themselves (I only bathe mine as a treat because they love it!) - Alot easier than dogs and seriously, just as lovable. They greet me at the door and sleep with me at night. One of mine is a bit quirky, but so am I!! Give them a chance, Andy - you'll fall in love!! BTW - 3 yrs ago before my cats, I NEVER thought I'd love these creatures as I do!!

I have 2 tabbys (one of them is a polydactyl, which is quite interesting, let me tell you. 28 toes, in all…it's like he is wearing mittens lol)
My boys are incredible. They wait until I am in bed, then they bring me their toys, and we play 'fetch' until I fall asleep. They come when they are called, like a dog…but, having a phone conversation is damn near impossible, around them, though….because as soon as they hear me talking, they jump in my lap and keep 'nudging' the phone so that they can 'talk'.
Although, I HAVE discovered that catnip makes one of them a MEAN little boy…so, that was curtailed. lol
I wouldn't give them up for anything in the world.
Awwww, poor Bella. I'm so glad she was okay! Bless her owners heart for caring so much and bringing her back home.
